Race start/finish will be 100m off the Reef World Beach at Urangan following a 30km
clockwise course around big Woody Island with a figure of eight round Picnic and Duck islands.
Course buoys will be deployed at turning marks!

Regatta Rules
Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association rules,
as amended, will apply.
Competitor Eligibility
a) Competitors must be AOCRA members, unless otherwise
approved by AOCRA.
b) Each Club will register all AOCRA members with the Zone
Registrar (including proof of age where required) at least
14 days prior to that said members’ first Regatta.
Age Divisions: General Requirements
This is a senior event only.
Competitors MUST be over the age of 18 years
a) The following Adult Age/Gender Divisions and Junior
Age/Gender Divisions apply to all competitors,
c) AOCRA or the Zone reserves the right to request proof
of age of a competitor at any time.
d) A competitor’s age for a Racing Year is determined by
their age as at 31st December of the Racing Year.
h) No canoes may race until such time as Positive (Added)
Floatation has been inspected & passed. This rule is
retrospective, includes all OC6 canoes, regardless of
manufacture date.
i) Imported canoes not manufactured by an AOCRA approved
manufacturer must be individually inspected by an AOCRA
approved scrutineers and must have a sticker signed by the
scrutineers, and if applicable an AOCRA provided numbered
tag attached.
j) All OC 6 canoes constructed after 1st January 2001,
must comply with AOCRA Safety Standards as specified in
these Rules.
Other Rules
Medals will be presented to all competitors
• All Canoes (including rigging, iako, ama, hull shape) must
meet current AOCRA requirements.
Canoes & Equipment
• Zone registration numbers must be prominent and readable
on the bow of canoes.
b) An outrigger canoe, unless otherwise approved by AOCRA,
will comprise 1 hull, 2 iakos and 1 ama.
• Storm covers on the canoe is mandatory.
c) The Outrigger assembly consisting of 2 iakos and the ama,
of each canoe, must be deemed by AOCRA to be functional in
its purpose as a counterpoise and in keeping with the spirit
of the sport.
d) All canoes manufactured or imported by AOCRA-approved
manufacturers will be eligible to compete in Regattas.
The approved manufacturer will glass a label (supplied by
AOCRA) into the hull of each canoe. In addition, all OC1 and
OC2 canoes must have an AOCRA provided, numbered tag
attached.
e) Before any outrigger canoe can be used to compete at a
Regatta, it must have been inspected and approved by an
AOCRA approved representative.
f) Upon repair or modification of any canoe, the owner is
responsible for ensuring that the canoe is scrutinized again
before being raced in a subsequent AOCRA approved event.
The owner is also responsible for ensuring that the repaired
canoe complies with AOCRA standards.
g) AOCRA empowers respective Zones to regularly conduct
spot checks on all canoes, to ensure on-going compliance
with Build and Safety requirements.

• AOCRA standard tow ropes (12mm rope 20/25metres in
length) must be fixed to front iako.
• Minimum of two bailing buckets must be on board canoe
and no mechanical means of bailing water of the canoe is
permitted. All canoes must have proof of positive flotation
inspection compliance stickers affixed.
• All canoes must have 1 life jacket per paddler in the canoe.
Start Procedure
Yellow Flag 5 minute warning. Red Flag 1 minute warning.
Green Flag indicates racing commenced. The flag times
are a maximum and may be reduced at the Race Director’s
discretion. Start will be upon raising of the Green Flag and
blast of horn. A Black Flag indicates a canoe or canoes are
over the start line. The race can be started while a Black Flag
is raised. It is the responsibility of individual crews to ensure
they are behind the start line at the commencement of racing.
Any crew over the line when the race commences may be
disqualified at the Race Director’s discretion.
Canoe unloading
& Rigging
Canoes can be unloaded and rigged in the following location:
URANGAN HARBOUR
(Public boat ramp at Urangan Harbour) Once rigged teams can paddle
the canoes to beach where security will be available on the Friday
night. Trailers can be left safely at the boat ramp. It is recommended
that teams bring appropriate trolleys and tyres for rigging.
