2013-2014 ANNUAL REPORT Kent Community Business Development Corporation 190 Irving Boulevard Bouctouche, New Brunswick E4S 3L7 Telephone : 743-2422 Fax : 743-1033 Internet : www.cbdckent.ca JUNE 2014 CBDC Kent is a private, non-profit community development corporation, serving Kent County and the civil parish of Rogersville, since October 6, 1981. OUR MISSION We work in cooperation with different government departments and the private sector to meet the needs of our region's small and medium-sized enterprises, by providing advisory and counselling services, technical assistance, and investment funds. OUR VISION At CBDC Kent, we are working toward a future where all the small and medium-sized businesses of the Kent County area will make a contribution to the sustainable development of the region. In Atlantic Canada, we have 41 CBDC, all in rural areas, including 10 in New Brunswick. Through an alliance of all these corporations, including ACOA, a trust fund (ACCBIF) has been set up to meet the investment needs, which allows us to continue to serve our communities. As for the stewardship, a board of directors made up of volunteers, who are all businesspeople representing the various regions served by the organization, supports the mandate of the CBDC Kent. As you surely already know, the Kent CBDC plays an important part in the business world of the Kent region, including the Rogersville parish. Among our accomplishments this year, the CBDC has granted $2,657,700 in financing to 55 clients. This is the largest amount in our history. These investments have helped create 56 new jobs and maintain 204 jobs in our region. We are also proud to have accepted 32 participants in the SelfEmployment Benefit (SEB) program. This program helped launch 32 new businesses that created 50 full-time jobs and 28 part-time jobs. Over the past year, we have also put an emphasis on training to entrepreneurs by investing over $35,673 in specific training to business people in the area. These various training opportunities have helped 26 business people become more efficient in their respective fields. At the Board of Directors, we have developed a new business plan in terms of governance by enacting policies on various topics in order to meet the standards of the CBDC network. Since this was my first year as Chairperson, I took part in several CBDC meetings at the provincial and Atlantic level. This helped me discover a network that accomplishes a huge amount of economic development work. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank our partners in economic development, including the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) for their financial support, along with the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour of New Brunswick and the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada with whom we have cooperated to deliver the Self-Employment Benefit program successfully for the past several years. Your support is greatly appreciated. I would like to mention the dedication and availability shown by the volunteers on the Board of Directors. Their knowledge of the various fields brought a varied expertise to the management of our organisation. In closing, I wish to thank the employees of the Kent CBDC. They are always there to listen to people and offer the best services available. Danielle Arsenault Chairperson 1 THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS CBDC Kent is governed by a local board of directors, comprised of businesspeople from Kent County and the civil parish of Rogersville.
