Ergon Saddles. 100% Ergonomic.
What is the Correct Saddle Width?
Saddles come in various shape and sizes, the v-shaped pelvic sit
bones rest on the saddle, and need to fit properly to the riders sit
bone width. The contact area changes depending on the angle
of the upper body, when the rider sits upright, the posterior parts
of the sit bone rest on the saddle. The more the upper body
towards the front, the more forward the sit bones touch the saddle.
Depending on the size of the v-shaped pelvic bones, the saddle
must offer a sufficiently large contact area to fit different seating
positions. The saddle widths are selected so that the usable saddle
area corresponds to the sit bone width.
3D Progressive Setup
Ultra-thin, flex-optimized, carbon composite 3D saddle shell (Carbon
composite only on Pro/Carbon Pro models). Shell is formed with
3D pockets, allowing for extra padding under the sit bones. Y-Flex’s
front to rear saddle design provides maximum freedom of movement
while pedaling.

State-of-the-Art Saddle Development
The Ergon product development department utilizes state-of-the-art
simulations, construction methods, and analysis as part of the development process of the SM3 saddle. While creating the ultra-thin saddle
shell, FEM analysis was fundamental in mapping the load, and stress
areas. The shape of the saddle from top to bottom was defined in the
Ergon ergonomics lab, using various pressure sensing equipment, and
field-testing. These processes led us to multiple iterations, and helped
define the final shape.

Realistic 3D Measurement. Simple and Fast.
The new generation of 3D saddle width measurement. The measurements are performed
on a medical gel cushion that is reusable. In comparative studies, this method has shown
the most accurate results of 95% of all subjects.
Therefore additonal materials, or measuring boards are unnecessary. The seat creates a lifelike
3D image of the sit bones, the width is displayed precisely making any additional measuring
templates unnecessary. The station may be used independently by your customers.

Measuring Stool
Ergon has developed a measuring stool with the use of medical
gel pads. The gel pad allows for accurate, easy-to-read

Performance and Comfort for mountain biking. Developed as an all-round saddle, ideal
for long-day tour riders, and those wanting extra cushioning. The ergonomic focus of the
saddle is optimized relief for the soft tissue areas. The specially designed shape, and
pronounced relief channel are ideal for those with sensitivity in this area. This was achieved
by using our newly developed, high-damping, orthopedic padding with micro-air cushions.

The Comfort Revolution for Road Cyclists.
At the heart of the seatpost are two parallel carbon flat springs. The
seatpost head has two bearings; thus allowing it to stay parallel to the
ground through the travel motion. The function is very simple, when you
hit a bump the bike propels the bike upwards, the seatpost then flexes
in the opposite direction (refer to image) allowing the bump to neutralize.
This is more efficient than a traditional suspension post. The post keeps
that ‘direct’ road bike feel, but the VCLS flat springs are sensitive to
small variations in the road surface.

Ergon grips in the Performance Comfort and Racing Series, prevent numb
fingers, painful hands, forearm discomfort, all common problems that many
riders experience. Symptoms originate from excessive pressure on sensitive
areas of the palms, and incorrect hand positions.
With the anatomically optimized design, Ergon grips offer 100% contact with
the surface area in comparison to grips with round handles, that provide only
60% contact.

The pressure in the area of the ulnar nerve is significantly lower, and the hands are
less likely to fall asleep. The anatomical shape of the Ergon GP, GS, and GX grips

Since hand sizes vary from person to person, sometimes considerably, the GP

The GC1 grip was developed for the ergonomic demand of riders with backwards-swept handlebars, normally found on city bikes. Using traditional grips
on these types of bikes causes a kink in the wrist. The GC1 corrects this wrist

The correct bars require the correct grips. Ergon’s GC1, the grip for swept-back

thanks to the new super soft, UV-stable rubber compound, which is exclusively
developed and manufactured in Germany for Ergon. This allows for greater contrail on demanding trials.

Dr. Kim Alexander Tofaute
Dr. Kim Alexander Tofaute is regarded as a pioneer of the sport-ergonomics
industry in Germany. His knowledge and expertise come from 25 years of cycling
experience. He holds a Ph.D. in sports science, and is one of a few sport ergonomists in Europe with his credentials.
From 1998 to 2004 he worked as a research staff member and assistant professor at the German Sport University in Cologne and acquired the A-Level Trainer
license in cycling. Since 2005, Dr. Kim Tofaute has been the head of the Ergon
Research and Development Department, and in 2011 he expanded his expertise
and became CEO of his own Sport Ergonomics Consulting business. He is now
intensively focusing his efforts on the subject of Bike Fitting.
