For Christiaan "Otter" Bailey, 33, surfing and skateboarding was his life and his
profession. But things changed in 2006 when he suffered a devastating injury while
filming a skate video.
He landed a trick backwards, damaging his spinal cord and fracturing two vertebrates.
The accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. As he recovered, Bailey couldn't
help but think about getting himself back in the water and back on a skateboard. With the help of his former sponsors, he made it happen, riding his first wave at
Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz, Ca. Bailey is the first paraplegic to win the WSA
Championship, the first to ride Mavericks and to date, the only Big Wave paraplegic
surfer. But that wasn't enough for Bailey ­ he wanted to bring more to the skate
world too.
He developed his own trick called the "Otter Pop" (pictured above), incorporating his
wheelchair in a hand plant trick. He was also chosen to represent WCMX (wheelchair
skating) for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver Opening Ceremonies. Today, Bailey is
working on a video for Team Box, a wheelchair company that makes custom
wheelchairs. Bailey is non­stop on the road. Aside from traveling for surfing and skating, he is also
involved in numerous charitable organization. He is the CEO of the Ocean Healing
Group, a Costa Rica based foundation that provides all inclusive adaptive sports
adventures to youth in wheelchairs.
Bailey is clearly a guy not only riding big waves, but creating them. Please help us

Registration for the 2016 Aspen Medical
Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge
(SDTC) is now open. It's never too early to
register and start raising funds for this
amazing organization.
The 2016 Aspen SDTC will take place Sunday,
October 23th in La Jolla, CA. This is not a race
or a competition. It's a triathlon event that
tests the ability of even the toughest athletes.
The challenge is great, but the rewards are
priceless both personally and financially with
the event raising $1.4 million in 2015 to help
physically challenged individuals get the support they need to succeed in sports and
