country of water : One cheek resting on the Loire, draped in a luxurious
grove, thread embroidered glittering rivers and canals, this is our land! So we
suggest you to discover this fantastic land, following the big or small rivers
and the canal ...
The first day, you will follow the towpaths of
the canal You will follow them the first day on
approximately 7 km, until Artaix, small village
on the left bank of the Loire, perched on a hill
where guesses the place of an ancient oppidum.
You will take then the direction of your
evening stage (about 12 to 15 km).

The second day back to the plain of the Loire near Marcigny, then great escape to Bourg
le Comte, where you can admire the small canal bridge over the river Urbise. You will
take after the towpaths of the cana that follows the course of the Loire direction the small
village of Avrilly: you leave the Burgundy to sleep in Auvergne! (15, 12, 10 km)

The Third day you will spend on the opposite bank of the Loire towards the marshes
of Montceau l’étoile : This site is the first significant natural area of the department of
Saone-et-Loire. One can observe a variety of flora and fauna and wetland
characteristics. Two views have been built on this site with an area of 6.5 hectares:
-a bird observatory offers views confidentially about 30 species of birds that inhabit the
marsh.
-an observation platform provides a global view of the wet meadow and marsh.
The animals on this site are extremely varied natural: kingfisher, Bee-eaters, sedge warbler, snipe, skunk ...
There are also many species of plants: the orchid flower loose, the hotton marshes, swamps Kentucky ...
The walk will end with a visit to the beautiful Romanesque church of Anzy le Duc (18 km in the plains
Loire)

The Fourth day will be devoted to the discoveries of the Heritage of brionnais. From the first hour of
hiking, at the entrance to the forest Charmays, is the chapel "Notre Dame de la Touche." Then a beautiful
trail in this beautiful forest, will take you to the little chapel Montmegin recently renovated
by the villagers. Then after the lost chapels in the countryside, you will take the path of
Semur in Brionnais, ranked as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Located on a
promontory overlooking the Loire valley, the village, the ancient fortress of the ninth
century offers two important monuments: Castle Saint Hugues, one of the oldest castle in
Burgundy (tenth century) and the church of Saint Hilaire, collegiate church twelfth century
that you can visit ... then you can have a drink near the castle. You leave Semur by the old
road round the village, followed by a dive in the valley where lies the beautiful little church
of St. Martin Valley. This is a remarkable small Romanesque chapel of the XI century. It has retained its
original appearance, bathed in a rural environment.
Then it is time to think about joining your stage tonight (16 km circuit with shortcut 2 and 4 km)

On the fifth day, you will follow a magnificent small path with many ponds : quiet moment which will
allow you to take completely advantage of this last day. Then the path leads you to the wood of the King,
where you take the path direction the cellar of Jean Claude producer of organic wine fossils (every
afternoon in July and August, by appointment the rest of the year) ... fortunately
to leave, the path is not very complicated and you will easily reach the top of
Iguerande, where you finish the hike with a visit to the beautiful Romanesque
church of Iguerande overlooking the Loire Valley, a spectacular wiew on the
river ... (14 km circuit with shortcuts available 2 and 4 km)
