High Plains Drifters Cowboy Action Shooting Club
High Plains Drifters Cowboy Action Shooting Club Fernley, Nevada August 2010 A Few From Our President - Irish Ike How Do !! A warm and toasty August shoot is behind us. We adapted the stages left over from the Police and Fire games held on Friday. Around 15 shooters so we ran them through all the stages in one day. It was a little weird not shooting but helping. But from all the effort the shooters had a good time and ROOP’s cash account rose up just a nice bit. Thanks to many people a really nice pot luck dinner was put together Friday night for Bee-Bad's and my birthday. I believe she turned 36 and I just cleared 48. Our resident gourmet’ chef, Jasper Agate, prepared some wonderment on the grill which flowed over to Saturday’s lunch. Ever had pizza made on top of a bar-b-que grill? Well it can be done and Jasper did a great job. If he keeps this up we’ll have to institute a weight training program. No not losing it, learning how to carry more around! For those of you who weren’t around for the shoot we got some good news from our Air National Guard buddies. They had an 8’ x 8’ portable office that has heating and air conditioning. And they gave it to us. The range now has a near new scoring shack or as Denio put it a place to play poker when it's hot or cold. Volume 7 After the August match the two club boards got together after the ROOP shoot to go over some business. We have changed the combination on all of the Connex boxes. Too many people had access and we are now missing an Easy up shade cover that was just given to us by the steel shooters. We also decided that a board member needs to be present when there is any shooting going on. This is for liability reasons and for access to the Connex boxes. Only Board members are going to have the combination to the locks. Also we are establishing a policy that anyone shooting/practicing at the range needs to have another person with them. This is for safety and in case an accident happens they can get help. We hope everyone understands. September Labor Day Weekend Match Our September shoot will be a three-day weekend. Labor day is on Monday so it’s a holiday. We’ll have our regular shoot on Sunday. Bring whatever you have for Saturday. For sure we will do Beach chair 22’s on Saturday afternoon. Miss Rickey is going to buy some burgers and dogs for a lunch on Saturday. So for those who show up on Saturday free lunch on the club. Not too much more to say. It has been 3 weeks since the shoot and I can’t remember half of what we did. See you-all at the range El Heffe Supremo - Irish Ike Sneakin’ Around the Line Shack – Interviews with Our Club Members Joe is also a hunter, which explains his natural interest in shooting sports - an interest that brought him to CAS/SASS. This month’s victim – er – featured club member is Nevada Joe Crow, otherwise known to the modern world as Joe Valentic. Nevada Joe Crow has been playing cowboy with us for two years now. He first heard about the sport through a friend that was involved in Civil War reenactment. Through his friend he bought his first SAA pistol and then came out to watch us play the game. In no time he was trying the sport for himself, and guess what? We done hooked another one!! Joe says that he really made his decision to participate, and continues to come back every month, because of the people. He says he’s never met a friendlier bunch of folks! Joe has become a regular at our matches and an asset to the sport. Next time ya see ol’ Nevada Joe Crow, give him handshake and a howdy! Nevada Joe lives and works in Fallon, NV, employed by A&K Earth Movers as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic. Nevada Joe is no slouch when it comes to busting knuckles or twisting wrenches, either. As his other hobby, Nevada Joe likes to rebuild hot rods and muscle cars. He is the proud owner of a 1972 Chevy Nova SS Factory 4 Speed that he did a complete frame off restoration on, himself. Joe doesn’t show his car at events like Hot August Nights, but he says he has been known to take a run or two down the asphalt at the Hot August Night Street Drags.
