Cheshire Cup winners!
The senior rugby team took part in the Cheshire Cup final on
Saturday 20th December. The match took place at the AJ Bell
stadium before Sale Sharks’ match against Castres and pitted the
Wilmslow side against arch rivals, King’s Macclesfield.
It was a tight affair with both sides leading at different stages of the
match. The scores were tied with 15 minutes to go and despite both
sides creating scoring opportunities, some outstanding defence
ensured the game finished 17 – 17. Wilmslow exerted tremendous
pressure on the King’s Macclesfield line during the last 5 minutes of
the game, camping in their 22, knowing that having scored 3 tries to
the opposition’s 2, they would be crowned Cheshire Champions.

Both coaches and players
were ecstatic with the result,
having lost out 29-28 in last
year’s final. It was a fantastic
team performance, but Luke
James was named official man
of the match having scored 2
tries and played a big part in
the third. The team now look
forward to their match against
Woodhouse Grove later this
month in the last 16 of the Nat
West Cup.

NEWS
Young enterprise Cogent Coasters
The prototype is here! The Year 12 enterprise team,
Cogent Coasters, have finished the term in high
spirits. After carrying out market research at the
beginning of the month at Barclays Radbroke Centre,
they are now confident that computer users will love
the team’s silicone lid/coaster designed to keep your
electrical equipment safe from spills. (see picture)
Cogent are currently putting the finishing touches
onto their business plan so that they can develop
their idea and bring the product to market in the
new year. To help them with marketing and sales
we invited Kieron Loynton, Regional Director at Ferrero Rocher into school. Hearing how a small
Italian family business can grow into the international brand it is today gave students just the
inspiration they need to drive their company forward.
If you wish to keep up to date with news on the team and upcoming cake sales around school,
follow them on Instagram @ cogent_ye.
Humanities visit December 2015
The Year 7 humanities group enjoyed
a visit to St Bartholomew’s Church in
December as part of their course.
Accompanied by Mrs Birchill and
Ms Jackson, they were kindly shown
around by Reverend Paul Smith,
who was able to explain to them the
important role which the church plays
in the lives of the people of the local
community and how this has changed
over time.
In addition to exploring the location,
they were able to discover how the church has been renovated in recent years. They were
fascinated to learn about the archaeological excavations which took place prior to the
installation of the new flooring, and showed a particular interest in what was discovered
in the depths of the ground! A memorable visit for all, this has enabled the students to
consolidate their understanding of history, geography and religious studies in a practical and
meaningful way.

Appeal
The Great North Air Ambulance Service operates three helicopters, 365
days a year, across the North-East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Crews
respond to around 1,000 call outs each year and on board their aircraft
are specialist trauma doctors and paramedics, who bring accident and
emergency expertise to the scene.
We are collecting plastic bottle tops on behalf of the Air Ambulance
Service. These can then be resold to a company that makes surfaces
for children’s playgrounds to raise money for this great cause.
Please can you collect blue, green and red bottle tops that would otherwise be thrown away for this
worthwhile cause? There will be a box for students to deposit bottle tops in the Wellbeing Hub office.
SPORT

won 12-4, Year 7B won 17-0. A spectacular set of results to start the new year.
