Miquelon Lake Provincial Park
Park Facts:









Located 63 kilometres southeast of
Edmonton.
1299 hectares in size.
Part of the Cooking Lake Moraine, or
“Beaver Hills”.
Dominated by trembling aspen,
balsam poplar and white spruce
forests and dotted with numerous
kettle ponds and wetlands.
More than 200 bird species visit the
area annually.
Designated as a bird sanctuary in the
1920s and redesignated as a provincial
park in 1958.
Protects a landscape that represents
the dry mixedwood subregion of the
Boreal Forest Natural Region.
Offers outstanding opportunities for
nature-based outdoor activities.
Part of a system of more than 500
provincial parks and protected areas.
2008 Park Construction Update:
Trails:
Work completed since construction began
in 2006:

All campgrounds are open; 40 new
power sites in campground “A”.
All seven of the park’s group use areas
have been developed or upgraded,
many with new shelters. Group use
areas will be available as they are
completed throughout the summer.
The park beach is accessible; however,
ongoing construction to realign and
pave the parking lots may limit access
to day use parking.
A new underground water system
has been installed, and a fire hydrant
added near campground “A”.
The new Park Centre will open in
summer 2008. This structure will serve
as an information and education
portal for park visitors and provide
office space for park staff.






Construction will be completed in 2009.
Please refer comments and questions to
park staff.


Located along the park’s knob
and kettle terrain is a 10-kilometre
interconnecting trail system.
The trails are perfect for hiking,
cycling, snowshoeing, bird watching
and cross-country skiing.
Trail loops vary in length from
1.7 km to 10 km, providing many
opportunities for recreation and nature
exploration.
New trails and trail improvements are
being planned for the near future.
Remember to Tread Lightly:


Stay on trails to avoid destroying
fragile ecosystems such as seedlings,
wildlife and wildflowers.
Pack out all trash and aim at leaving
the area cleaner than you found it.
CELEBRATION!!
Join park staff and volunteers on July 19,
2008 for a very special Park’s Day event.
In 2008, Miquelon Lake Provincial Park
celebrates its 50th anniversary and the
opening of many new facilities, including
the long-awaited Park Centre. Watch for
special event details coming soon.
