Students will study career goals, information technology, interior design, architecture, and construction. Students will use Microsoft office and autodesk Revit programs. Projects include a resume, career investigation, 3d modeling, and 3d computer modeling. Architecture Design is a yearlong course that gives students knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career in architecture or construction. Students study drafting techniques, architecture design essentials, and computer use. Computers are used to create house plans and computer models. Students will work on a structural model too. ADV Architecture Design is a second year course of Architectural Design. Students will use knowledge of drafting techniques and architectural design to complete a set of plans using Revit drafting program. Students will create a computer model of a house and then create a model home. Students will also create fly-by and walk-through animated movie files of their house. Problems & Solutions Architecture Design is a third year course of Architectural Design. Students will use knowledge of drafting techniques and architectural design to complete a set of plans using Revit drafting program. Students will create a computer model of a house and then create a model home. Students will also create fly-by and walk-through animated movie files of their house. 14 Construction Management 8424 In this class we work on learning how to read floor plans and building wall sections. We start with very small walls, and then get progressively larger until we finish with a half size mini-house. The students use various tools that are used on a real construction site. Students receive a certification if they complete and pass all required tests and procedures. 15 16 17 Arts, A/V Technology & Communication 18 Principles of Arts, Audio/ Video Technology, and Communications 8686 (1/2 Credit) Course Description: Careers in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications career cluster require, in addition to creative aptitude, a strong background in computer and technology applications, a strong academic foundation, and a proficiency in oral and written communication. Within this context, students will be expected to develop an understanding of the various and multifaceted career opportunities in this cluster and the knowledge, skills, and educational requirements for those opportunities. This class will cover Lab Safety, Professional Communication, Ethical Communication, Interpersonal Relationship, Group Problem Solving, Professional Presentations, Audio/ Video, Fashion Design, Printing and Imaging Technology, Graphic Design & Illustration, Animation, & Photography. Naaman Forest Fashion Club-We are sponsored by FIDM college 21 In Graphic Design and Illustration, students will learn to digitizing tablets in conjunction with Illustrator, CTEuseFair Photoshop and Microsoft office paint. They will also use Powerpoint and Prezi. They will also learn how to use Microsoft Publisher. Students will have at least two photo assignments. They will create projects such as Godzilla attacks Naaman, retouching faces, recoloring projects, creating a crime scene, making ninjas, creating a foamboard stand up, and creating a silhouette. 22 In Advanced Graphic Design and Illustration, students learn through design studies created by master artists such as Kandinsky, Deke McClelland, Andy Warhol and Michael Hogue. These students will create a calendar gifs, typography projects, panorama projects and projects combining photos such as millions of me. They will treat these students as clients and aim to please them. The logos will be transformed into tags they will put on their clothing. Learn about the various types of development that human beings experience during their life; from conception to old age. Learn the characteristics of each developmental milestone/age; birth through old age. Investigate various age-appropriate topics that each age group goes through. Examples: picking an occupation, peer pressure, the power of cliques, smoking, acne, need for sleep for the teen years. Get perspective on the point of view from different ages and stages of human life. Gain insight into interpersonal relationships, both same age and intergenerational. Take a look at disease and conditions that occur in the various age categories. 33 Instructional Practices in Education and Training is a field-based unpaid internship that provides students with background knowledge of child and adolescent development as well as principles of effective teaching and practices. Students work under the joint direction and supervision of both the high school teacher and other exemplary educators in various grade levels in Garland ISD. Students learn to plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities, prepare instructional materials, develop materials for educational environments, assist with record keeping, and complete other responsibilities of teachers, trainers, paraprofessionals, or other educational personnel. 34 This second year program is an unpaid field-based internship that provides students background knowledge of child and adolescent development principles as well as principles of effective teaching and training practices. Students in this course work under the joint direction and supervision of both a teacher with knowledge of early childhood education and exemplary educators in direct instructional roles with elementary, middle school, and high school aged students. THIS COURSE IS THE PREREQUISITE COURSE FOR 8150 HEALTH SCIENCE (CLINICAL ROTATION) COURSE OVERVIEW: THIS COURSE INTRODUCES SKILLS RELATED TO THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY SUCH AS TAKING VITAL SIGNS, BODY ME CHANICS, MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AND OTHER ENTRY LEVEL SKILLS. COURSE CONTENT RELATES TO PATIENT RELATIONSHIPS, WORKING ENVIRONMENTS, ETHICAL AND LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES. A free and appropriate education is offered to eligible students. 43 Health Science 8150 Health Science Clinical Rotation Grade 11-12 2 credits Prerequisite: 8145 Principles of Health Science Course Overview: This course is for students with a serious interest in health care. Students must go through an application and interview process and be selected for this program. It is designed to provide for the development of advanced knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of health careers. Students will have in-class hands-on experience for continued knowledge and skill development. Students may spend 1-2 class days per week at either Baylor Regional Medical Center of Plano, Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake, or Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital at Dallas. Testing, including drug screen, background checks, health insurance coverage and additional immunizations may be required by the cooperating health care facilities. Fees include but are not limited to: malpractice insurance, TB skin testing, influenza vaccine, uniforms, HOSA dues. A free and appropriate education is offered to eligible students. 44 Career and Technology – Practicum Classes Practicum in Health Science 8151 is the third class in sequence in Health Science Technology. The two prerequisite classes are Principles of Health Science 8145 and Health Science Clinical Rotation 8153. Focused Practicum classes are taught in a variety of areas, including Pharmacy Tech, EKG, Medical Lab, Sports Medicine, Nurse Assisting, EMT, Basic Skills Training, Teen CERT, and a few variable others. Some of the classes result in a certification or eligibility to sit for a certification exam; these are Pharmacy Tech, EMT, Sports Medicine, and Phlebotomy. Additionally, some classes provide the opportunity to earn dual credit. Practicum classes are taught at a number of high schools in the district. Depending on your choice of classes, you may be traveling to your class. All are double blocked, usually on B day. The only HST Practicum class currently taught at Naaman Forest is Pharmacy Tech. Pharmacy Tech is a comprehensive year-long study of the basics of Pharmacology. It includes lecture, lab, and computer exercises, as well as outside work and research projects. You will sometimes work alone, sometimes in a group. You will learn the dynamics of group work and responsibility. You will learn the exact skills used in the pharmacy, such as counting pills, deciphering prescriptions, handling patient information confidentially, compounding prescriptions, and a whole new world of terminology. Certified Pharmacy techs are very well paid and this is a great occupation during college, as well as a stepping stone to admission to Pharmacy school. EMT, taught at Lakeview, is an exciting program leading to an opportunity to take the EMT certification exam. You will work with real EMT’s, ride the ambulance at the end of the year, learn rescue techniques and myriad other skills. If you want to be a firefighter or a Paramedic, this would interest you. 45 Hospitality & Tourism 46 8160 - Lifetime Nutrition & Wellness Grades 10 – 12 You will study the principals of food preparation, technology, and nutrition and how they are interdependent with growth, development, health, and wellness. Students will utilize these principles to make informed choices, promote good health, and learn how to pursue careers related to food science, technology, and nutrition.
