welcome from the principal
Dear Friends of ASB School,
Welcome to this very special “Holiday by the Sea”! With your
support, we continue our commitment to building a strong faith
community and to giving our students the skills and knowledge that
they will need for their lives in the 21st century. Your partnership
makes this possible. As we celebrate our 30th annual auction, you
join a long line of families and friends of ASB, all dedicated to our
school’s mission.
The money that we raise tonight goes directly into our operating
budget. In addition to keeping the school running, this enables us
to keep three key commitments: to keep our tuition as affordable as
possible for parish families; to compensate our faculty and staff justly,
and to provide programs that challenge and support our students.
Our Fund-A-Need this year will help us keep these commitments.
Raise your bid card to help us set aside funds for tuition assistance,
so that we can stay true to our mission of providing an excellent
Catholic education to all parish families who desire this. Your support
will also help us make sure that our teacher salaries can be increased
next year, as we move teachers back to their proper place on the
salary scale after this year’s salary freeze. As we do each year, a
portion of our Fund-A-Need will go to St. George School to help
them provide tuition assistance.
Tonight is only possible because of countless hours of hard work
by so many people. I especially want to thank Linda Kinerk and
Cathy Loveland for their willingness to chair this year’s auction. They
took on a big job with so much enthusiasm, and their energy and
excitement have inspired all of the volunteers. Thank you to everyone
for the time, creativity, talents, and long hours that have brought us to
this night. Looking at the catalog, I am also struck by the generosity
and creativity of your donations. Thank you all so much, and thank
you to our generous donors.
Yes, tonight is about raising money for this school that we love. It is
also a wonderful community celebration of all that we accomplish
together. Let’s remember tonight that we are here for our children
and for all the children who will look to ASB School in the next thirty
years. Hear their voices of gratitude, and raise those bid cards high!

from your auction chairs
Shells, sand, driftwood, coral, sea urchins, warm
seas........ Welcome to 30th Annual Assumption-St.
Bridget Auction, Holiday by the Sea. We chose the
theme Holiday by the Sea because we thought it would
be wonderful to escape to a seaside resort during the
hustle and bustle of the holidays to relax, reflect, have
fun, and celebrate all of the joy and gifts in our life.
Tonight is a night to celebrate the gift of our children’s
education. In order to continue the excellent level of
education we need to come together as a community.
We are here to support our school, Assumption-St.
Bridget.
We would like to thank all the individuals who have
spent countless hours working on this event. We are
so grateful for the generosity of spirit and gracious
giving of your time and abilities. We extend our sincere
appreciation to committee chairs, parents, friends,
faculty, staff, alumni, and our own families.
We would also like to thank each of you, our guests.
Throughout the evening, please keep in mind the effect
your generous bidding will have on our children.
Be generous! Bid high! Have fun and celebrate!

fund-a-need
Tonight you have the opportunity to invest in something
priceless: your children’s future.
More than ten years ago, ASB introduced Fund-A-Need
to its annual auction. Since then, parents and donors have
contributed over $500,000 to help make this the great school it
is.
This year, Fund-A-Need is all about Investing in People, and will
help to support those who are at the heart of our school and
our sister school, St. George: students, parents, and staff. Your
contributions will enable the school to fund the operational areas
of greatest need which fall into these three areas:
•Tuition Assistance – At ASB, no parish family is turned away
due to inability to pay tuition. In the 2008-2009 school year,
we budgeted $106,000 for tuition assistance. Before the year
ended, we gave over $133,000 in assistance to 35 families (59
students). Financial aid requests have increased even more in
this current year, and your support of Fund-A-Need will help
us provide assistance to each and every family who needs it.
•Teacher and Staff Salaries – As you know, we have had
a salary freeze this year, at the request of the Archbishop.
The terms of the freeze meant that the salary scale did not
increase from 2008-2009, and teachers did not receive credit
for their additional year of experience. Our teachers and
staff members are our greatest resource, and retaining them
is a priority for maintaining our excellent school. When the
freeze is lifted, we want to put our teachers back at the salary
levels that they have earned. To do this for teachers will cost
approximately $50,000. Your support of this Fund-A-Need will
ensure that we can accomplish this goal. Here’s your chance
to show your appreciation to our amazing faculty and staff!
•St. George School - We are committed to assisting our sister
school in South Seattle, St. George. As we unite to offer our
own children a top-notch education, it is part of our ASB
philosophy to offer community support to others in their time
of need.
Here’s how Fund A Need works:
•Tonight, our auctioneer will call out funding levels of $5,000,
$2,500, $1,000, $500, $250, $100, and $50.
• S
imply raise your bid card high when you hear the amount
at which you wish to make a direct, 100% tax-deductible
contribution to ASB School.
•Our goal for this year’s Fund-A-Need is $50,000. Please
consider making a generous contribution to help ASB School
continue its legacy of excellence.
Thank you for your generous support!

Every child in our school has a place in our community
to learn, to create and to steadily grow. From our small
ASB world, they will each strive to reach their own
goals, taking with them what they have learned and
making a difference with those they may teach. We
have fleeting moments to offer our time, talent and
treasure.... and we each have a hand in nurturing,
supporting and preparing our children. Tonight, then,
give generously and support their education.
