Watch for scams
Scammers are still out there
calling utility customers
nationwide to steal credit
card numbers or other
personal information.
These criminals, posing
as company employees,
threaten to disconnect
service immediately unless
past-due accounts are paid.
At Pacific Power, we don’t
call customers and ask for
credit or pre-paid card
numbers. If you receive
such a call, hang up and
phone us toll free at
1-888-221-7070 to verify
the call’s origins.
If you believe you have been
contacted by a scammer,
note any information –
phone number, payment
address, etc. – and provide
it to your local police,
then report it to us at
1-888-221-7070.

Investing to improve service
Power up, bills down
To ensure customers have the safe, reliable
electricity they need, we continue to make
targeted long-term investments in our system.
Did you get a new
electronic “toy” over the
holidays? Since they can
add to your electricity
bill, run your electronics
efficiently with these
wattsmart tips:
While our service is among the best – 99.97
percent reliable – we’re never satisfied.
Our system investments work to ensure
capacity, improve equipment performance
and maintain or restore service when
electricity needs to be rerouted.
Televisions – Check the
display settings to reduce
brightness or contrast.
“Vivid” and “dynamic”
settings typically use
more energy.
In 2015, transformer capacity was added to
our substation near Boardman. This important
project provides for additional irrigation
pumps and enhances the overall reliability
of the regional transmission grid that
delivers electricity to homes and businesses.
Game consoles – Unplug
when not in use, or use
a power strip to make it
easier to turn the system
completely off.
Construction will begin this year to install an additional 230-kilovolt circuit
breaker at our Pilot Butte substation near Bend. The new equipment
improves reliability and operational flexibility in the area and is expected
to be in service by late 2016.
Smartphones and tablets –
You can adjust brightness
settings to extend battery
life. Remember to unplug
chargers, or purchase an
advanced power strip to
shut off when your device
is done charging.

SAFETY
MATTERS

OEAP INCOME GUIDELINES
If there’s an outage, a
portable generator can be
helpful to power individual
appliances. However,
you need to pay close
attention to safety when
operating one.
Never plug the generator
into an outlet or a home’s
electrical panel without
having a professional
electrician install a
transfer switch. Plugging a
generator into an outlet is
extremely dangerous to
you and your neighbors.
Generators emit deadly
carbon monoxide, so only
use them outdoors, away
from windows, doors and
vents, and in open areas
protected from weather.

tips, visit pacificpower.net/

Find your comfort zone: go ductless
When you upgrade your electric
heating system to a ductless heat
pump, you’ll stay cozy and reduce
heating costs by up to 40 percent.
Plus, as a Pacific Power customer,
you can get up to $800 in cash
incentives from Energy Trust
of Oregon when you install a
qualifying ductless heat pump.
These high-efficiency systems are a good fit for many homes because they
don’t require ductwork, and can heat individual rooms to keep you warm all
winter long. Ductless heat pumps are quiet and compact and have built-in air
filters to help improve the air quality in your home.
For details, or to find a contractor, visit energytrust.org/ductless or call
