The “Source” Now at your Doorstep!
From the Desk of the
Police Chief
Eric R. Nuñez
Police Chief
I would like to invite you to come join
the members of the Police Department
as we celebrate National Night Out
2014. This year marks the 31st anniversary of America’s Night out against
crime. National Night Out is designed
to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for
local anti-crime programs; strengthen
police-community partnerships, and
send a message to criminals that our
neighborhoods are organized and
fighting back against crime. Traditionally, cities will have neighborhood
block parties, city park cookouts, and
parades to get the message across.
As in previous years, La Palma will
celebrate National Night / Civic Expo
at the Concerts-in-the-Park, which will
be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014
at Central Park, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00
p.m. The theme of the concert is “The
Ultimate Tribute to the Legends of
Classic Rock”. Members of the Police
Department, Neighborhood Watch, Police Explorers, Volunteers in Policing,
and the SWAT Team will be on hand.
Come and meet the police officers who
serve and protect your city. There will
be various types of displays, including
SWAT and the Mobile Command Center, and you will have the opportunity
to learn about and join any of the Police Department’s volunteer programs.
I look forward to seeing you at National
Night Out 2014.

July 2014
La Palma residents no longer need to resort
to the internet as the Source is back on hard
copy. On June 17, 2014 The City Council adopted the 2014/2015 budget, which included
the reproduction of the “Source Newsletter”. The Source will now be deliverd to your
doorstep the second week of every month!
Project Safe Streets
At the June 17th La Palma City Council meeting, area residents raised
concerns over speeding vehicles and
vehicles failing to stop at stop signs
in the residential areas adjacent to
Marview Drive, Tracy Lane, Indigo
Street and Shirley Drive. A check of
department records revealed no reported traffic accidents in this area
and no recent resident complaints
made to the police department. As
part of the police department’s Project Safe Streets program, officers
will be conducting specific traffic enforcement in these areas to educate
and deter unlawful drivers. Directed
traffic enforcement in residential areas also provides a visible police
presence which helps deter other
criminal activities.

La Palma Seeking City Council Candidates – A General Municipal Election will be held in the City of La Palma on November 4,
2014, to fill two City Council seats. City Elections for the La Palma
City Council are held every two years and terms for the Council’s
five at-large seats are staggered. Therefore, all five council seats
are not up for election during the same election year. This is your
opportunity to get involved in your community. The filing period
for nominations begins July 14 and ends on August 8. If you have
questions regarding the process or wish to make an appointment to
take out nomination papers, please contact the City Clerk at (714)

Water Quality Report Released – The City of La Palma recently
produced its 2014 Water Quality Report, a comprehensive drinking
water resource document that is delivered to all City of La Palma
water customers each year. The report provides valuable water
quality information and is a requirement of the California Department of Public Health. The Drinking Water Quality Report provides
information on regulated and unregulated contaminants. Each potential contaminant is compared with Federal standards. In addition to providing the results of the thousands of water quality tests
performed every year, the report helps customers know where their
water comes from and how it gets to their homes or businesses.
Based on the results shown in the report, La Palma’s water meets
or exceeds all established water quality standards. The 2014 Drinking Water Quality Report was mailed out to all residents who receive La Palma water and is also available on the City’s website
at www.cityoflapalma.org/WaterQuailty. Customers can call the La
Palma Water Division at (714) 690-3310 for more information or
questions.
