Paul “Bear” Bryant once said, “If you
believe in yourself and have dedication and
pride – and never quit, you’ll be a winner.
The price of victory is high but so are the
rewards.”
Well, Meadowbrook rising senior
Jordan Jeter is starting to feel his rewards.
Jeter, just like his Monarchs teammate
Matt Hodges before him, picked up his first
offer, and it happened to be from University
of Virginia-Wise, the same school that gave
Hodges his first offer.
UVA-Wise, led by fourth-year coach
Dane Damron, plays in NCAA Division
II‘s Mountain East Conference. The
Cavaliers finished 1-10 overall last season
and 1-9 in conference play.
The football roster is filled with players
from the state, including seven players
from the Central Region – James Cousins
and Jacob Cousins (J.R. Tucker), Anas
Elkattan and Maurice Watkins (Thomas
Jefferson), Darius Johnson (Dinwiddie),
Michael Tarrer (J. R. Tucker) and Juwaine
Massenburg (Hopewell). Also, three more
local players K’Jon Coley (Benedictine),
Truvell Wilson (Henrico), and Marcus
Tarrer (J. R. Tucker) will arrive for the
2016 season.
Jeter (Class of 2017), who wears No.
88 had a stellar year in 2015 and he was
one of the main reasons the Monarchs
finished with a flourish and racked up wins
over Matoaca (21-14) and Thomas Dale
(23-14) in back-to-back weeks.
The 6-2, 190-pound wide receiver and
defensive back who also does yeoman’s
work on the Meadowbrook basketball
team, is an impressive presence on the
outside for the Monarchs offensive end and
a stifling factor for the defense. Itall starts
with his dedication.
“Jordan is the most dedicated
player we have had in the program,” said
Meadowbrook coach Adam Tiller. “He
made every 5:30 a.m. workout and has
worked non-stop to drop his 40 time from
4.98 to a 4.82.
“With his size and attitude, he will
have countless offers, in my opinion. He is
the definition of commitment, leadership,
and loyalty.”
Because of those qualities Jeter’s path
to the next level will be at wide receiver.
