Murder Mystery Dinner - Wentworth
Murder Mystery
Dinner
by Deborah Shelton, Vice President of Philanthropy for WDH&HF
The Murder Mystery Dinner at The Governor’s Inn in Rochester on April 24
was sold out and was a huge success! The event raised over $8,000 to support the
purchase of equipment for a second state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Interventional
Lab at WDH. President & CEO, Gregory Walker welcomed the 144 attendees
to this first-time event and thanked everyone of them for their support of the
Hospital. “It was good to look out into the crowd,“ he said, “and see Hospital
Trustees, Foundation Directors, employees, physicians and many existing
supporters as well as a lot of new faces.”
The production, “Flashback to Murder,” takes place at a high school reunion and
flashbacks to the death of the Prom Queen 20 years earlier. WDH Cardiologist
Jonathan Eddinger, MD, stole the show as the heartthrob at the Wentworth High
School reunion. It was his date that was murdered at the prom. In the end it
was Tom Levasseur, a Foundation Director, that guessed the murderer and won
tickets to the M/S Mt. Washington for a Sunday Brunch Cruise for two.
Over 50 items were donated by local businesses and individuals for a silent
auction. Items included jewelry, art, an autographed cookbook, an adorable
rocking elephant for a young child’s room, many gift certificates and a beach
chair. We are grateful to these individuals and businesses for their generosity in
donating these items.
From the cocktail reception under the tent to the silent auction and production
everyone had a wonderful time. The next event has already been scheduled for
May 14, 2011 at The Oaks in Somersworth. Mark your calendars now for this
very popular event!

You

Mom thanks
Foundation for
Diabetes camp
The mother of a 13-year old son
recently wrote Hospital President &
CEO Gregory Walker a letter thanking the Foundation for their support
of Camp Lance-a-lot, a family weekend camp for teens with diabetes.
The mom wrote: “I would like to
thank the Wentworth-Douglass
Foundation for funding such a great
experience. I am sure some of the
families present would not have been
able to attend if it were not for the
generous support of your Foundation. I hope this letter will serve as
a program testimonial to encourage further and continued funding
for this and other family and camp
experiences for kids with diabetes. They don’t look any different
than other kids, but their medical
risks make it difficult to participate
in many institutional recreational
settings. It is wonderful that your
Foundation helps to fill that void.”
Northeast Delta Dental
Donates $5,000 for Oral
Health Project
The Northeast Delta Dental
Foundation recently awarded the
Wentworth-Douglass Community
Dental Center $5,000 to plan and
implement the Oral Health Integration
into Primary Healthcare project for
the Wentworth-Douglass Physician
Corporation (WDPC) medical
practices. This is in addition to $7,000
that was awarded by the Patterson
Dental Foundation. WDPC practices
will be one of the first groups in New
Hampshire to embrace the integration
of oral health into primary healthcare.
According to Gregory Walker,
FACHE, President & CEO of
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital the
Oral Health project will improve both
the medical and dental care patients
receive at the doctor’s office. “Thanks
to donors such as Northeast Delta
Dental Foundation,” Walker said,
“patient visits to their primary care
provider will help prevent dental
disease and connect families in need
to the services offered at the Dental
Center.”
Dr. Jay Afrow, Dental Director, will
visit WDPC offices for a “Lunch
& Learn” overview of oral health
so providers can do oral health
assessments. Each WDPC office will
choose an Oral Health Champion to
assist providers with referrals to the
Dental Center if their patients do not
have an established dentist and meet
the Hospital’s financial aid criteria.
This program will train medical staff
to apply fluoride varnish to the teeth
of high-risk children at well-child
visits. Access to routine medical and
dental care can improve the health
of children and adults served by
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Foundation Director Donates $10,000
for new Cardiac Lab
A severe angina attack during a friendly game of
racquetball in 2002 stopped former football coach Tom
Levasseur in his tracks and sent him to WentworthDouglass Hospital’s cardiac cath lab. The treatment
saved his heart and left him with an indelible impression
about a truly caring hospital.
“This place (WDH) just resonates with me. It was the
way I was treated that impressed me the most about this
hospital.” Eventually he connected with the Foundation’s
Tom Levasseur
Planned Giving Advisory Group, later joining the
Stewardship Committee and the Annual Fund Committee before joining the
Foundation Board in 2009. This year his commitment grew even stronger with a
personal pledge of $10,000 to support a new Cardiovascular Interventional Lab.
As the population of the Seacoast ages, there is an increasing need for access to
high quality, evidence-based cardiac and vascular medical care. In the past seven
years, 3,335 patients have been treated in the Cardiovascular Interventional Lab
necessitating a second lab to provide
cardiovascular services for emergency
patients.
Levasseur is a life member of the
Million Dollar Round Table, Top of
the Table member and a Diamond
Knight of the Million Dollar Round
Table Foundation. He is the principal
of Beacon Retirement Group - a local
independent financial advisor helping
people with their retirement and
estate planning issues.

Thank you, Tom, for your generous donation and your commitment of time and
talent to the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital & Health Foundation.
