He is now on the way to recovery and would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. James and Maureen Craig Woodridge W e are thinking of starting an over 55’s group. If you are interested in joining us to get started, come along with your ideas of things to do and places we could go as a group. Woodridge Community Hall January 14th. At 10am Phone Glenna 9577 2281 or June 9577 1447. June and Glenna A TTENTION DOG OWNERS: As a regular walker in the Woodridge Estate I have become very nervous with regard to walking past some properties where gates are open and dogs come charging out barking. On two occasions I have been chased by one particular dog, this makes my daily walk a very stressful experience. The number of dogs roaming loose on the roads have increased these past few months. Come on dog owners, be responsible and keep your dogs under control and your gates closed and make our walkers and roads safe. A Woodridge Walker— name withheld W e are a few local residents who enjoy a healthy walk around Woodridge in the mornings and we have had a couple of instances where dogs have run out of yards barking as if they are going to attack. While no one has been bitten the viciousness which they run out at you with does not instill confidence to continue to walk around that street. It would be great if all dog owners would make sure their gates are kept closed and the dogs contained in their yards and everyone will feel happier and safer and enjoy walking again. The Woodridge Walkers. I read the above two letters and could not help adding my experience, I also was terrified by a neighbours dog when I was walking, fortunately they have moved! However the other day we came home to find dog turds in our swimming pool and all our chemicals gone. Of course we could not prove who’s dog it was so cannot make a claim for the expense of the chemicals it took to restore the balance. I know the ranger is doing his best to keep stray dogs under control, but really I feel all dog owners should do the right thing and have a proper fence and gate and keep their gate closed. Moore River News Team member The Guilderton Community Association would like to wish everyone Seasons Greetings and a safe and Happy New Year Carols at the Junction Neergabby Christmas Carols are on again this year on the 4th December. Moore River News December 09 On behalf of all the staff at the Lancelin Police Station, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a joyous and happy New Year!! DECEMBER COPS CORNER NEW LANCELIN POLICE PHONE NUMBER Lancelin Police Station phone has changed, 9650 1100 Fax 9650 1155 Write them down, you never know when you might need the number Security in your home or office With warm weather around the corner I think now is the time to increase your awareness of the increased risk of Burglary at home and in the work place. When the warm weather comes around we tend to leave doors and windows open to make the most of the cool sea breeze. Maybe it’s time to install window locks or security screens to reduce the risk. The same goes for front and back doors, have you got a Security Screen door?? School holidays are around the corner and maybe you are lucky enough to be going away, make sure you lock your house and high risk items away and out of sight. Don’t forget to call in to the Police Station and let us know your home is vacant…... Christmas and New Year planning As in previous years we will have extra Police resources in the Lancelin Police District over the busy periods. Leading up to New Year we will have a contingent somewhere around 50 in town to make sure those seeing in the New Year behave. Don’t be a drink driving dummy!!!! Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Again a contingent will also be based at Guilderton as in previous years. A special Thanks to the Shire of Gingin for their support to make sure this happens!!. SEAT BELTS Can you believe that people still get into a car and don’t put a seatbelt on? Something which I can’t believe, Mum and Dad sit in the front with their belts on but the kids are jumping all over the seat; what are they thinking? It is a minimum fine of $500. If you try and run the gauntlet—We will catch you and you will be $500 out of pocket !!! THERE IS NO EXCUSE Have your say !! Do you have something you would like raised on this page, send an email to : [email protected] CHRISTMAS PARTY TIME If you are planning a Christmas Party be smart and make sure you organise a lift with a non drinker or walk home. What about a driver to pick all your staff and friends up and drop them off. Don’t have a sad Page 3 Christmas. Season Greetings Be smart and stay safe. Regards Lloyd Ellis Lancelin Police. T he Spring Fair this year was a terrific success with lots to do, lots to see and lots to eat. Congratulations to all those who contributed, especially the committee for all their hard work, and those who turned out for a fun day. Woodridge Community Association News I feel sure that everyone will agree when I say our huge thanks go to all the people that helped with the dreadful accident that occurred the day before the Spring Fair and that our thoughts and best wishes are with Fred and his family at this time. The Public meeting held this month saw another poor attendance; some of the items on the Agenda included the subdivision between Redfield Park/Sovereign Hill, the erection of the pergola at the hall, the Plunkett proposal and various other items to be taken up with the Shire about maintenance. Sadly, both the Dance Night and New Years Eve parties have been cancelled owing to there not being a lot of interest, despite both being advertised quite well and a lot of work being put in by the organisers. Mark Tuesday, 26th January 2010 for the Australia Day breakfast on your calendar , look out for the raffles and feel free to donate a gold coin. The Children's Christmas Party will be on Sunday 13th December. Parents PLEASE keep presents to $10 or less and drop them off at the Hall by 11 am. We hope the children have a great time and that parents will join in the games. The WCA wishes you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. Pauline WCA Moore River News December 09 Page 4 This year's event seemed to attract even more people than last year. You may have noticed a few more stalls as well. The committee would like to thank all those who attended, participated (especially in the auction), and a special thank you to those who helped out in any way before, during and after the event. Another special thank you to Jill & Jason, and Chrissy & Craig for managing the bar at short notice. I'm sure all will agree they did a wonderful job. The net amount raised on the day was approx $2000. A few more attractions and activities were paid for this year - i.e. BMX stuntmen, extra children activity centres, Karaoke DJ for the bar, and the snake man; all of which attracted large crowds and participants. And once again the Kalahari Busmen added ambiance to the whole day. The kitchen was very successful again, providing the majority of our profits. Our gratitude goes to the Gingin Abattoir for providing the meat for the beef rolls. The committee are all very pleased with the outcome of the day - the aim as always is to put together a day of entertainment and enjoyment for our community without it being too expensive, and at the same time raise precious funds for our volunteer services and groups. To have some funds to add to the community coffers at the end of the day is always a bonus. Keep Sunday 7th November free for the 2010 Woodridge Spring Fair. Spring Fair Committee Again we will say thank you to all the people who supported our McDonald House charity stall at the Spring Fare. The total made & sent was an excellent $637. Joyce, Fiona and Marylyn were a great help Yours Truly Jane Phyl & Dot The Gingin West Fire Brigade Cadets collected a wonderful $800 in donations at the gate. A HUGE thank you to everyone for being so generous. Moore River News December 09 W ell Done Girls and Boys: Congr atulations: What a terrific Woodridge Spring Fair! How much work was put into this? You are all to be congratulated. THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US. Laura Woodridge We add much praise and thanks to the Spring Fair Committee from the Moore River News Team, you certainly had a winner and thank you to everyone who donated auction goods to the Moore River News, it raised $200 for which we are very grateful. C Page 5 ongratulations to the Spring Fair Committee on a great days entertainment. Well done. H ello, I’m writing in regards to the 'Woodridge fair' your community held a few weeks ago. As a family of 5 city slickers, we had the best time at the fair, we have been to many country fairs, but this one topped the cake. It was such a friendly atmosphere and we will be coming back every year, the kids had a ball and it sure beats the Royal show and all other smaller shows, the prices were cheap and food was good (we had something from every stall) Displays were fantastic. I have told all my family and friends about this show, and hopefully they will come with us next year to help raise funds for Woodridge Estate. Thank you for such a great family day out. See you all next year!! Rochelle Newman H i, Woodridge spring fair was a great success ! Full of interesting stuff to do ....I tried wool spinning for the first time and enjoyed watching the wood turner, learnt about snakes and watched sheep shearing , all good to do and see. My friends from Hong Kong came along and they had a great time and enjoyed your lovely bush setting The last time I went to your fair was 2 years ago (all the way from Ocean Reef), this year is 10x bigger and better! Your committee has put in such a great effort in organizing the event. The auction was the highlight of the day , despite I didn't succeed in bidding for any items , I had a go and it was worthwhile just being there. Comparing this to the Royal Show, there is no commercial component which makes it great for everybody. It carries the unspoilt friendly country essence and didn't cost an arm and leg in entry fee! Will definitely be coming back next year with more friends! Michele Kwok The Sovereign Hill Community Association again ran a food stall at the Woodridge Spring Fair. Thank you to the volunteers and to the huge number of buyers a successful day was had. $100 from the day was donated to the local ambulance group. Woodridge Spring Fair Auction Bottles of Woodridge Estate wine (Chardonnay or Soft Red) are available as Christmas gifts @ $8 each. Contact Maureen 9577 1864 or Debbie 9577 1885 Thank you to all who bought raffle tickets at the Ambulance. The money raised has gone towards buying a wheel chair for the ambulance. Congratulations to the winners, Bev Purcell, Maureen Pickering and Sue from Seabird. Thank you to the Crafty Patch Ladies who put time and effort into making the beautiful Quilts and Rag Doll. Cheers Marg Browne The auction at this year’s fair was a great success, raising $2,500, with the monies going to local organisations. A big thank you to Mr Bob Woodruff and Kathy for the time and effort put into making the auction a success. However the event couldn’t happen without all the generous donations as well as enthusiastic bidders. Thank you to all of you. We hope everyone had a great time. See you next year. This is a really long story! I do know it started after the Victorian Bush Fires. Dave Stroud, Gingin West Fire Captain and others in his “Have a chat circle” thought we ought to provide Woodridge with a safe haven in case of fires that got too big to handle! After discussions with the Shire and Shire Rangers it was agreed to nominate the Woodridge Hall and call it The Emergency Assembly Point. However we needed fire fighting equipment that would be able to keep the hall safe before and after a possible fire had gone through. We have the water in the pond! We just needed a way of getting it to the hall. Councillor Alan Alderson donated a trailer. Pictured above is Marg Browne the Gingin West Secretary and without her this project would have stayed on the drawing board. She applied for a grant from SGIO………and got it! Dave armed with $5500 went over to see the Shire mechanic Reg and it was all agreed that for safety and insurance reasons it would be built over there. They purchased the pump and hoses with the grant money. Amazingly, the trailer was delivered—as pictured above in November. Following the public meeting Dave now has a team of volunteers willing to help and learn how to manage the assembly point and keep it as safe as possible. Dreams do come true, but without volunteers and the support of the Shire this one would have stayed in Dave’s head! The Community should be very grateful that we have a brigade secretary like Marg, and a Fire Captain and Shire that cares. Moore River News December 09 Page 8 R ed Robin Playgroup would like to thank everyone who bought show bags at this years spring fair. We raised much needed funds for new equipment and craft supplies and hope that next year we will get the same support - again thanks everyone! I would also like to take this opportunity to let everyone know that playgroup’s last day for this year will be 16th December. We will re-open again on the 3rd February. Do not phone your local captain, that phone will be needed by the emergency services Let’s hope we all keep safe. A Happy Christmas and a peaceful 2010 A RED HAT group known as the DINKI DI DIVAS recently had a fun filled weekend at Guilderton. Each member has a self proclaimed royal title so amongst the group were Duchess of Dolittle, Lady Lustalot. Lady Chatterly and two local Dinki Di Divas being Dame Pixie Pie and Lady Liberty. To set the mood for relaxing and pampering, they had “Cookie” take them on the Sunset River Cruise where they took in the tranquility of the Moore River, returning to the mouth to watch a spectacular sunset. Most stayed at the Sea Moore Guest House where they were able to enjoy the healing hands of various members of the community. Queen Elizabeth of Champagne commented that 19 Red Hatters enjoyed one of their best meals ever at Café A Moore Amirage B & B Restaurant was the venue for a champagne luncheon and from all accounts the food, the service and the setting was a highlight of the weekend. The Divas were most impressed that host June showed the flair she is renowned for and had the restaurant looking splendid, decorated with red and purple. The garden was a glorious array of colour that almost rivaled the blaze of red and purple that swished their way through the property. These happy ladies enjoyed their stay and went home declaring that Guilderton/Moore River was the ideal getaway spot for any age group. Elizabeth “Queen of Champagne” Woodridge Postal Agency Wishes a Happy Christmas to everyone Please empty your PO Boxes as often as you can in December. The Moore River News team YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTION; Must send the Moore River News more fun reviews of Community Events and personal special anniversaries and births etc. You will no doubt have read in the Sun City News about our 20th Birthday celebration in Mandurah. It was a real treat to met up with Mary, Bev, Pixie, Jenny, Jan and Walter. It was a shame Sue could not make it. I had the opportunity to browse though many of the 20 years worth of issues the other day. You would not believe some of the events, photos and news. A Happy Christmas from the current team.
