Board of Directors was held Monday, February 4,2014 at the Elkton Alliance/Chamber Office, 101 East Main Street, Elkton, Maryland. Chairman Owens called the meeting to order at 8:00 AM. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved. Treasurer's Report: Mr. Crouse reviewed the Treasurer's Report for January. Chairman Owens inquired why the advertising expenses were higher than usual. Ms. Jablonski stated the bills from Christmas advertising came in last month. Ms. Davis made a motion to approve the report, seconded by Ms. Kunda. Motion was approved as presented. Dwight E. Hair Frances H. Kitts Organization: Membership: Mr. Crouse stated $5,875 in dues have been collected and 53 members have joined. Chairman Owens requested Board members try to recruit members when out and about. Mr. Massimiano inquired what to tell potential members if they ask what the Elkton Alliance is and what they do. Ms. Jablonski explained the history of the Alliance. Ms. Jablonski stated the Alliance works with downtown businesses to help fill store fronts, work with property owners to help rent/sell buildings, provide low cost printing for members. Chairman Owens added that the Alliance is not just downtown but also serves Greater Elkton. Mr. Hicks stated the Elkton Alliance does the economic development for the Town. Building on the past Jor a brighter Juture 101 East Main Street Elkton, MD 21921 Ms. Kunda stated she attended the briefing last month from Diane Lane discussing the County Strategic Plan. She also met Jeanne Minner and Ms. Jablonski with the subcommittee on land use. Ms. Jablonski said she would like the Committee to revisit the Downtown Master Plan. Ms. Fetterolf asked if the Master Plan could be scanned so more people could have access to it. Ms Jablonski stated she does not have a scanner that would be able to scan the maps. Ms. Fetterolf offered to get it scanned. Design/Arts & Entertainment: 410-398-5076 Fax 410-398-4971 www.elktonalliance.org First Friday: Ms. Blystone stated February's First Friday will feature events at Cecil College, Cecil County Arts Council, The Palette & The Page, Trinity Church, and Gracie's Cafe. Next month her work will be featured at The Palette & The Page. Co-Op: Ms. Jablonski inquired if Ms. Blystone thought there was enough interest from artists to have another Co-Op. Ms. Blystone will check with the other members of The Palette & The Page. Office Report: Gap Loan: Ms. Jablonski is assisting Minihane's with a Neighborhood Business Works loan. They will concentrate on the outside renovations before working on the 2nd floor. Cozy Corner Cafe: Ms. Jablonski stated Cozy Comer Cafe still negotiating with the owners for renovations. Dwight E. Hair Frances H. Whitaker Honorary Lifetime Members Board of Directors: Elkton Florist: Ms. Jablonski stated Elkton Florist saw a 12% increase in foot traffic sales during the month of December. Ms. Fetterolf stated her business, Coventry County Crafts saw a lot of foot traffic as well. Officers: Roger L. Owens, Chairman Larry W. Crouse, Jr., Vice-Chairman Marybeth Sniadowski-Cole Treasurer Candy Davis Secretary Promotion: Antique Roadshow: Ms. Jablonski advised the board that Elkton's Own Antique Roadshow has been declining in profit so the event will be cancelled this year. Kitts ~hleen St. Patricks Day: Ms. Jablonski stated Minihane's will be holding a St. Patricks Day weekend event culminating in the Grand Opening Celebration 7:30 AM on March 17th with a traditional Irish Breakfast. A lot of good names were discussed and Joe & Judy Tanner were chosen based on their volunteer efforts ELKTON ALLIANCE, INC. Building on the past for a brighter future 101 East Main Street Elkton, MD 21921 with Chessland and the volunteer center at the Cancer Center in Union Hospital. A bigger venue will be needed to celebrate the event and Singerly Fire Company was suggested. Mr. Hicks stated the cost of the event will also be significantly less. Dr. Lewis made a motion to move this year's event to Singerly Fire Company on March 2ih, seconded by Ms. Kunda. Hurricane Grill & Wings: Ms. Jablonski stated there will be a 1 year anniversary ribbon cutting at Hurricane Grill on Friday, February 7th• Other Business: 410-398-5076 Fax 410-398-4971 www.elktonalliance.org Mardi Gras: Ms. Jablonski stated the Boys & Girls Club annual Mardi Gras event will be held on March 4th at the Wellwood and will feature celebrity servers. Chairman's Report: Friends for a Better Elkton: Chairman Owens stated there is a PAC for the Town Election called Friends for a Better Elkton. Dr. Lewis stated it might be a good idea to invite someone from the PAC to an Alliance meeting for informational purposes.
