ABOUT “The Impossible,” a true story of survival in the 2004 tsunami that decimated
Southeast Asia, Naomi Watts said:
“I play the mother of three children. We shot in a tank. It was difficult. I had security and
felt safe, but this most difficult thing I ever did was physically demanding. You rehearsed
. . . OK, so now comes this wave. It’s unsettling . . . then another wave . . . then water
was added . . . it was hard but done very believably.
“When I was underwater, I had to remain in the tank in that chair that spun around. It
suddenly malfunctioned and stopped spinning. I got a little hurt when I couldn’t get out
of the chair. The water was warm, but there was a certain level of panic and fear.
“Our art director created a huge area of devastation. We studied research people and
designs, drawings, actual pictures and news videos. A great deal of accuracy went into
this, and we were respectful of people living there.
“We filmed in the very reconstructed hotel, the exact site, where this actual family had
been. They came to visit us. I met my actual counterpart and stood in the very space
she was when the tsunami struck. Our story follows this family.”
Naomi and Liev Schreiber’s two sons, Samuel and Alexander, were with them. Says
Liev: “Still now, twice a month, they beg to return to what they called Hermit Crab City
— because those hermit crabs were crawling on the beach. I very much want to go
back.”
Having never been there before, co-star Ewan McGregor is another who hopes to
return. “It was surreal. Seeing garbage, debris, a police boat 1/4 mile inland. I made
friends with a bar owner there who’d lost his entire family in the tsunami. It’s a testament
to the Asian spirit.”
One personal P.S.: Two cherished age-20ish daughters of my friends in Johannesburg
had begged to be allowed to go to Phuket — alone — for a first-ever Christmas holiday
away from home. Their parents refused. They pleaded. Permission was finally given.
When horror struck, they sought refuge, clinging to each other, behind a slammed-shut
bathroom door. Water crashed through their flimsy beachfront facility, and one was
swept away. Another subsequently sustained more than a dozen surgeries.
I know Thailand’s Queen Sirikit for decades. I’ve repeatedly been with Her Majesty in
Bangkok, her upcountry Hua Hin palace and New York. After my friend’s child was lost,
I went to Thailand. Her Majesty, who’d lost a grandson in the experience, assigned me
an Army general and Air Force plane to try to locate her. Involved in the rescue, Israelis
with disaster expertise had photographed and documented every recovered body part.
Her remains were ID’d by a tattoo.

"I was absolutely struck by the simplicity of following this one family's experience. And
that moved me to tears," said Ewan McGregor about the first time he read the script for
Summit's "The Impossible." "I was a mess and I was reading a script, and I read
hundreds of scripts. I had to blow my nose, stop myself from crying. I was so wrapped
up," McGregor added, as he practically induced tears in the Dec. 12 aud at the Museum
of Arts and Design.
Later, at the Bill's Food and Drink afterparty, Sergio G. Sanchez reflected on how the
tsunami pic is a universal tale of survival and how disaster sometimes brings out the
best in people. "You would probably never go out of your way to help someone in a
normal situation," said the scribe. "It's such a wonderful experience to feel helpful. And
sometimes life has to slap you in the face to make you go out of your way and do it."

A sense of nervous preparedness was palpable among guests at the screening of “The
Impossible” at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York on Wednesday night. The
film, directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, is adapted from the true story of the Belons, a
Spanish family of five who found themselves in Thailand during the devastating 2004
Indian Ocean earthquake and resulting tsunami during a Christmas vacation. Guests
knew they were in for an emotional ride.
Liev Schreiber, Nora Zehetner, Hannah Bronfman, Zani Gugelmann, BryanBoy and
Constance Jablonski joined tsunami survivors Maria Belon, the wife and mother of the
family portrayed in the film, and Petra Nemcova, who suffered the loss of her thenfiancé, at the theater for the Calvin Klein-sponsored event.
“I can’t even imagine the magnitude of [that experience], especially on vacation,
because your mind-set is different,” said Francisco Costa. “Your reflex is different,
you’re not ready to run. It must have been terrifying. I can’t wait to see the
performances.”
To re-create the underwater sequences, Bayona and his crew built massive water tanks
filled with debris in which Naomi Watts and her son in the movie, played by Tom
Holland, were submerged. It was no easy feat for the actress, who suffered a neardrowning experience after being pulled into a riptide as a teenager.
“Coming from England, where I had never really spent much time at the beach, I wasn’t
a strong swimmer and I didn’t have any knowledge of what to do [at the time],” the
actress said.
“But every time I got to the point [on set] where I was about to complain and say, ‘Oh, I
can’t handle this, please no more,’ I remembered that I’m just an actor, and I know I’m
safe,’” she continued. “These people had no idea what was going on, and they didn’t
know if it was finishing, and they didn’t know it was safe. I just thought, this was nothing
compared to what they went through.”
Ewan McGregor considered how his experiences as a father influenced his
performance.
“I think, being a father, you can’t take that out of your experience. It has to color
everything you do,” he said. “The whole Christmas morning scene was improvised.
There’s a certain ease that you have with children when you’re used to spending time
with them that [Watts and I] both had, because we’re both parents.”
After the screening — during which one viewer was rumored to have fainted — female
guests flooded the restroom to dry their eyes before descending on Bill’s Food & Drink
for the after party.
“It really makes you realize that no matter if you have a fight or whatever happens with
the people you love, you should always rise above it,” said Hanneli Mustaparta.
“To say I was emotional would be a slight understatement,” said Poppy Delevingne.
“The waterworks were on full motion.”

Naomi Watts stars in “The Impossible,” focusing on the 2004 tsunami, despite her fear
of water after a near-drowning experience. “I got caught in a hell of a riptide in Bali . . . I
wasn’t a strong swimmer,” Watts said at a screening of the flick on Wednesday. “Every
time I . . . was about to say, ‘Please, no more [filming],’ I remembered I’m just an actor; I
know I’m safe.” Petra Nemcova, who lost her fiancé during the tsunami, told us, “It’s
very much reliving everything . . . the first half of the movie is 90 percent what I went
through.”

Liev lives! Liev Schreiber told Confidenti@l that while riding his bike through SoHo the
other day, he was almost hit by a motorist.
“We had a little event on Broome St. where a guy ran a red light and he went really,
really close to my front wheel,” the “Goon” star said at the Museum of the Moving Image
Salute to Hugh Jackman at Cipriani Wall Street. “I got a lump in my throat.
Unfortunately, I don’t worry as much as I should.”

Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.
For The Impossible, the movie about a family caught up in the 2004 Indian Ocean
tsunami, Naomi Watts spent six weeks in a water tank in Spain. During that difficult
period, she did occasionally wonder what the heck she had gotten herself into by taking
the role, based on a true story.
“But every time I got to the point where I was about to complain and say, ‘Oh my God, I
can’t handle this. Please, no more,’ I remembered, you know, I’m just an actor. I know
I’m safe,” Watts said at a screening hosted by Calvin Klein Collection on Wednesday.
“These people had no idea what was going on. And they didn’t know if it was finishing,
they didn’t know if they were safe, and they were not able to see their other family
members,” she added. “You know, it was wild. So you just go, ‘No, this is nothing
compared to what they went through, so buckle up and soldier on and get through it.’”
Though her astonishing acting in The Impossible snagged her a SAG and a Golden
Globe nomination, Watts told VF Daily that she initially had reservations about doing a
movie about the tsunami. “I thought, Wow, it’s something that affected so many lives,
and took so many lives. The idea of doing a disaster movie—that would be so wrong if
they made it spectacular in any way. So I was nervous, and it wasn’t a straightaway
‘Oh, this is a great idea.’ But once I read four or five pages of the script, I knew I had to
do it. Because it felt completely rooted in truth, and it was.”
Maria Belon, the woman whom Watts plays, attended the screening at the Museum of
Arts and Design in Manhattan.
Another tsunami victim, Petra Nemcova, said that she was at the same hotel in Thailand
where they shot the film. “I didn’t know going into the movie, actually, but yeah, the
same hotel, the same beach,” Nemcova told VF Daily. “And that made it even harder to
watch everything.” The movie is, indeed, hard to watch in places, but Nemcova is
impressed with the results. “They’ve done, really, an amazing job, the re-creation of the
hotel, the wave, being under the water—everything is as it was. And very, very real,”
she said.
Co-star Ewan McGregor and guests including Terry George, Liev Schreiber, Constance
Jablonski, Neal Bledsoe, and Calvin Klein’s Italo Zucchelli all got a chance to
decompress afterward at a party at Bill’s Food and Drink.
“I can’t even put myself in those shoes, in the experience of this film. It seems so
haunting, so crazy,” Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa said at the party. He perked
up when he spotted McGregor across the room. “I remember seeing him in Moulin
Rouge. He was such a delightful character in the movie, so I’m looking forward to
meeting him,” Costa said.
Even before doing The Impossible, Watts had a fear of water. And now, will she ever go
near a coastline again? “I love the beach, but I prefer glass water,” she said, laughing.
“I’m scared of waves and strong currents.”

Leather is definitely having a moment.
First K. Stew hits the red carpet in tight leather pants, and now Constance Jablonski
shows up to a screening of The Impossible in a leather mini dress.
Dressed head-to-toe in Calvin Klein’s F/W 2012 collection, the French model looks
super cute in the long sleeve leather mini. Unlike K. Stew’s boys-for-girls look, Jablonski
takes the leather look from Harley Davidson biker chick to full-blown Lolita femme.
And, yes, we plan on copying her immediately (including that sweet little braid in her
hair).

Parts of new film “The Impossible,” about the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, were impossible to
watch for a viewer at the New York premiere. A guest at Calvin Klein’s screening Wednesday at
the Museum of Arts & Design passed out during a dramatic moment. An onlooker explains the
“really gross” scene involved actors coughing up “something” after they’ve been caught in the
waves. “It was out of ‘Alien,’ ” our spy reports. “That’s when the commotion in the audience
happened. Someone said the guy just couldn’t take it and blacked out.” Another source says,
“He was having trouble breathing and everyone around him helped him out.” The film’s stars,
Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, were there along with Petra Nemcova (who famously
survived the tsunami hanging on to a palm tree), Liev Schreiber and Nora Zehetner.

Understandably, humor was not a part of the equation on Thursday when Calvin Klein
sponsored the screening of The Impossible. The film is director Juan Antonio Bayona's
realistic portrayal of one vacationing family’s plight during the 2004 tsunami in Thailand.
And not only is Naomi Watts’ character abused by the megawave, for the rest of the
film, she realistically moans and shrieks like a character in Ingmar Bergman’s Cries and
Whispers. “Water is always difficult,” said Watts. “I swore I would never do anything as
demanding after King Kong . . . I guess you forget.”
“We tried to use real water as much as possible,” said Bayona. “We didn’t use CGI to
portray the enormous areas destroyed by the water.” He also mentioned that Petra
Nemcova, who recently saw the film, indicated that she was standing 20 meters from
the main character in the film when the wave actually hit. Nemcova, creator of the
Happy Hearts Fund, attended the screening and pointed out that she’d never heard the
word "tsunami" before experiencing one firsthand. She likened the natural disaster to
witnessing the end of the world.
Making The Impossible Possible

By: Todd Plummer/Thursday, December 13 2012
There was nary a dry eye in the house after last night's Calvin Klein-hosted screening of
The Impossible at the Museum of Arts and Design. Based on a remarkable true story
from the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the drama follows a couple—played by Naomi
Watts and Ewan McGregor—and their three children on a family vacation struck by
disaster. The film was especially hard to watch for Petra Nemcova. The model clung to
a tree for eight hours with a broken pelvis after the tsunami hit. "There's this one scene
where Naomi is drowning under the wave and being hit by all this glass and debris,"
Nemcova told Style.com. "It was very authentic."
Afterward, moviegoers made their way across town to the recently reopened Bill's Food
& Drink. Hanneli Mustaparta and Laure Heriard Dubreuil both felt a little partying was
necessary before going home. Said Dubreuil: "I needed to come for a little warmth. If I
went home right after seeing the film, I would have been depressed." Poppy
Delevingne said the best upper after a serious movie is a stiff vodka tonic, whereas
Bryan Grey Yambao insisted on two glasses of wine. Seated at a booth in a quiet
corner, Naomi Watts unwound, doing what she claims kept her emotionally strong
through filming: chatting with the woman whose real-life tsunami survival story inspired
the film, Maria Belon.

As every Santa knows, buying a present for your best friend can be a challenge. But
buying a gift for a seriously indulged celebrity? As a public service to their loved ones,
we asked stars at the Cinema Society premiere of Quentin Tarantino's Django
Unchained and Calvin Klein's screening of The Impossible what gift cards they would
like to see in their stockings:
Naomi Watts: "A gift voucher for an Apple store. I want a Macbook Air."
Bridget Moynahan: "Williams-Sonoma, and I would go crazy
buying cooking equipment."
John Legend: "Let's see...I don't know. I always get discounts at all these places
anyway, so I guess I'm spoiled."
Donna Karan: "A gift voucher for time off, a long, long time."
Petra Nemcova: "For me? Hmm, I guess a spa voucher to get a massage that is as
strong as possible."
Constance Jablonski (model): "I'd love a pet-store voucher. I'd like to get a Dalmation."
Fransico Costa (designer, Calvin Klein): "You can never go wrong with a Tracie Martyn
Salon gift voucher. You can have a great facial, a sculpt. I do that a lot. It's so much fun
and so relaxing."
Michael Strahan (Live With Kelly and Michael): "They don't make gift vouchers for cars,
so just give me an American Express gift card."
Hoda Kotb: "Pottery Barn Kids for my nieces."
Elettra Weidmann: "Silk Day Spa, my favorite spa in New York City. I want to do
everything—manicure, pedicure, massage, a back treatment. I want everything."
Anja Rubik (model): "I would go for Barneys. There are so many options there, shoes
and bags, clothes. Or I'd like to get a voucher for a ballet exercise class."
Hilary Rhoda (model): "Barneys. They have everything. It's one-stop shopping.
Clothes, a home store, bags...everything!"
Nichole Gallicia (Sheba, Django Unchained): "Duane Reade. I need to stock up on
toiletries."
Julie Taymor: "A voucher to be able to educate young women in Asia."

Golden Globe nominees Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor turned out for a special
screening of their epic tearjerker The Impossible and talked to me about how they
summoned the emotional wherewithal to play a couple whose family is torn apart by a
tsunami.
The picture's director, J.A.Bayona also attended and told me he had no qualms about
casting a Scottish and an Australian actor to play the real-life Spanish couple on which
the harrowing story is based. Bayona pointed out that the film never clarifies the
couple's nationality. Besides, the actual husband and wife who inspired the story were
on the carpet and they were clearly supportive of the film.

Naomi Watts at "The Impossible" New York Special Screening
Naomi Watts proved herself to be a bit of a style rabblerouser by wearing white (okay,
off-white) after Labor Day. The Golden Globe nominee wore a heart neckline strapless
Calvin Klein Collection dress paired with Monique Péan sunburst fossilized walrus ivory
drop earrings with opaque champagne diamonds and white diamond pavé to last night's
NYC premiere of The Impossible. For the event, Calvin Klein Collection dressed not
only Watts but also a chic set including Liev Schreiber, Nora Zehetner, Sarah Wynter,
Hanneli Mustaparta, Hannah Bronfman, Lisa Marie Fernandez, The Webster's
Laure Hériard Dubreauil, and Constance Jablonski. Both Watts and her co-star
Ewan McGregor were all smiles as they posed for pictures despite the serious tone of
the press' questions. The Impossible recounts the devastating tsunami that hit
Southeast Asia and portrays one family's true story of survival. When asked how
motherhood prepared her to play the role of a mother fighting for both her and her son's
life after being separated from her husband and other son, Watts remarked, "being a
mother influences everything I do." Aww alert!

Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts attend The Impossible special screening at New York Museum of Art
and Design on December 12, 2012 in New York City.
Actors from “The Impossible,” Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, attended a special
screening of their film at New York Museum of Art and Design on December 12, 2012 in
New York City.
Leaving her long hair loose, Naomi Watts, who plays the role of “Maria” in the film,
chose a strapless ivory dress, trimmed at the V-shaped décolletage with black piping,
and accessorized with dangling earrings, gold torque necklace and black strappy
sandals. The black nailpolish on her toenails and fingernails completed a slightly edgy
look…
Costar Ewan McGregor, the hero “Henry” in the film, was dapper in his dark pin-striped
suit, teamed with a checkered shirt and wingtip oxfords – slightly casual without a
necktie but still sexy...
With a screenplay by Sergio G. Sanchez and directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, the plot
is about a family that is thrust into one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time,
along with tens of thousands of other people.
Certainly an interesting storyline as “December 21, 2012” is approaching and the
current Mayan Calendar is allegedly ending on that day…
Joining Watts and McGregor was model Petra Nemcova, who looked lovely in a cream
strapless floor-length gown, accessorized with a jeweled headband, neutral toned
pumps and a gold clutch bag.
Actor Liev Schreiber (in sharp black suit, pearl grey shirt and grey tie) and Calvin Klein
designer Francisco Costa, in black suit, white shirt sans tie and a V-necked sweater.

Impossibly beautiful: Naomi Watts is joined on the red carpet by model Petra Nemcova for the New York
screening of The Impossible at the Museum of Art and Design
She may have broken off her engagement to British actor Jamie Belman earlier this
year, but Petra Nemcova looked every bit the blushing bride at the New York screening
of The Impossible.
And the film's star Naomi Watts could very well pass as her maid of honour.
The two beauties wore elegant dresses in colours of white and champagne to the
Museum of Art and Design on Wednesday night.
Naomi, 44, looked like she could be the same age as Petra, in a sweetheart neckline,
sheer dress with black lining detail.
She matched her nails and shoes to the dark detail of the dress but added some colour
with a flash of rouge on her lips.
The Australian actress's blonde locks were simply parted to the side to frame her
glowing face.
Bridal colours: Looking like they could be a bride and her maid of honour, Petra and Naomi look the same
age despite their 11 year age gap
Designer: Calvin Klein presented the screening and his a label close to Naomi's heart as she met her
husband in one of his dresses
Sparkling: The champagne colour of the strapless dress gave Naomi an all over glow
Petra, 31, too opted for a strapless number, but her long evening gown had a bridal
quality emphasised by the embellished tiara wrapped round her updo.
A golden clutch bag set off the pure white off the dress and like Naomi, the mode opted
for a red shade on her lips with golden smokey eyes to highlight her brown eyes.
However, Petra's wide smile was most likely hiding a hint of sadness, for the film that
documents the true story of a family caught up in the 2004 Tsunami has personal
significance to the model.
Impossibly youthful: At 44-years old, Naomi barely looks out of her twenties as she poses at the
screening
Remembrance: The film about the Tsunami disaster of 2004 has personal significance to Petra who lost
her fiance in Thailand when the wave hit
Co-stars: Naomi plays Marie who is separated from her husband played by Ewan McGregor when the
Tsunami hits
She too was affected by the natural disaster whilst in Thailand with her fiancé the
photographer Simon Atlee.
Sadly, whilst Petra only sustained an injury, Simon was killed and so in his honour, she
set up the Happy Hearts Fund.
The charity's mission is to improve children's lives through educational and sustainable
programs in natural disaster areas.
The team: Ewan joined the Aussie actress along with the film's director J. A. Bayona
Loved up: Naomi's husband, fellow actor Liev Schreiber joined her at the New York event in a black suit,
white shirt and grey tie
Although the family the film is based upon is Spanish, Naomi and Ewan McGregor play
Maria and Henry, the English parents of three children who spend their Christmas
vacation in Thailand just as the devastation takes place.
Separated, Henry and Maria begin a frantic search to reunite as a family once more.
The Scottish actor joined his onscreen wife at the premiere as well as the film's director
J. A. Bayona.
However, Naomi's real life husband Liev Schreiber kept close to his wife at the event
presented by Calvin Klein, a designer close to the actress's heart as she said she first
met her beau in one of Calvin's dresses.
Mismatched: Whilst Petra looked ready for a wedding, Maria Belon looked like she'd just stepped out of
the office

Monochrome Look For The Impossible

Thursday, December 13 2012
Actress Naomi Watts posed on the red carpet at a screening of 'The Impossible' in New York at the
Museum of Art and Design on 12 December 2012.
Naomi Watts has been making red carpet appearances left, right and centre lately as
her latest film, "The Impossible", captivates viewers around the world (and most likely
makes them cry).
The Australian actress made an appearance on the red carpet in New York on 12
December for a special screening of the film – which basically means that all the
attendees were wearing snazzy evening clothes – cue Naomi Harris in a silk dress.
Earlier this week, Naomi dazzled the paparazzi on the red carpet in Los Angeles in a
floral gown, complete with a fishtail skirt, but that was a real, bona-fide premiere. In New
York, the star toned things down a bit and went for a simpler look.
Red-carpet glamour made easy
Instead of fancy Hollywood waves, Naomi Watts opted for a more straightforward
hairstyle. She looked delightfully comfortable with her straight locks and side-swept
fringe and we reckon there was even a slight nineties thing going on with this 'do.
Her make-up, as per usual, was feminine and understated. Naomi's simple (but very
effective) make-up style put us in mind of Cate Blanchett's latest look seeing as they
both kept things fairly minimal. The best thing about this approach to glamourous
beauty is that it takes less time than a more complicated style. After all, there's a reason
Naomi didn't go overboard twice in one week.

Stepping out to show off their latest work, Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor attended a
special screening of their new film ”The Impossible” in New York on Wednesday
evening (December 12).
Elegant in a cream-colored strapless dress with black trim, the blonde beauty posed
alongside her co-star at the Museum of Art and Design before going inside to enjoy the
event.
In the film based on the 2004 Asian tsunami, a family is caught with tens of thousands
of strangers in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time.
During filming, Naomi did a bit of unintentional method acting. She explains, "When we
were shooting in the tank, we really weren't acting. We were anchored in these chairs
as the wave machine broke over us. There was a moment when I came up for air but
couldn't get out of the chair. I was already out of breath and the chair took me under
again." The Juan Antonio Bayona-directed film hits theaters on December 21st.

After a successful premiere in Hollywood, Naomi Watts joined her costar Ewan
McGregor and director J.A. Bayona tonight for a special New York screening of their
new movie “The Impossible” at the Museum of Art and Design.
Because the screening was sponsored by Calvin Klein Collection, I wasn’t surprised to
see that the 44-year-old actress stepped out in a head-to-toe look from the latest
Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
Naomi wore a strapless ivory champagne cocktail dress, which fell just belove her
knees. On the runway, the black trim at the plunging sweetheart neckline and sides of
the dress were complimented by a skinny black belt. Like many ladies lately, Naomi
passed on wearing a belt; this was a bad idea in my opinion because I felt it was crucial
to the design.
She completed her look with black nails, gold jewelry; Monique Pean earrings, a
Jennifer Fisher short necklace, and a bracelet by Dezso along with black platform
sandals from the same collection—although she needed something more lightweight. I
like her hair out in loose waves, but I want to fix that stray piece of hair over her eye.

Who? Naomi Watts
What? AMAZING. Watts looked stunning in this strapless Calvin Klein Collection dress
with decolletage and black trim for the New York premiere of The Impossible. It was the
creme de la creme of red carpet style: elegant and chic. Watts accessorised with gold
drop earrings, necklace and bracelet. We love the black chunky wedge heels and
blonde down do swept to one side.
Where? The Impossible screening at the Museum of Art and Design, New York.
Verdict? Love the dress, love the shoes, love it all.

HE: Is so adorable and wearing such fabulous pieces that it pains us to have to criticize.
But we, of course, will do so. The crits are minor, though: The jacket is ever-so-slightly
pulling across his chest and the pants are too long. Actually, the pants are probably
hemmed properly, but he’s wearing a big, clunky pair of thick-soled shoes. Which we
LOVE, by the way. We’re not sure they’re right for this suit, but they’re a gorgeous pair
of shoes. Score: 7.5/10. Those shoes with a pair of jeans would have been perfect.
SHE: Is confusing us. Aside from the fact that she’s not wearing a belt, we have no idea
why this dress looks so different from the way it looks on the runway. We can only
presume that it’s Not Her Dress. We’re starting to think (after this, and that Rita Ora
fiasco) that Calvin Klein dresses simply can’t be interpreted. They’re so precise and
minimal that you pretty much have to wear them the way the designer presented them.
We also think a lot of his dresses, like this one, for sure, do not last long in the real
world. Look how wrinkled and disheveled she looks when you can bet all she did was
put it on and get in and out of a limo. Score: 5/10. Sorry, girl. It was a bad choice.
Combined Score: 6.25/10, which is actually a bit higher than we thought we were
going to go.
The Impossible’: 5 Reasons
To Go See It
th
By: Eleanore Hutch/Thursday, December 13 2012
‘The Impossible’ is a heart-wrenching tale of one family’s survival in the most
impossible conditions.
Bring your tissues if you go see The Impossible because you will cry! But it will be worth
it, because it is a truly amazing movie. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star in this
true story about a family who were vacationing in Thailand when the 2004 tsunami hit.
Against all odds, they survived to tell the tale. HollywoodLife.com were invited to the
Calvin Klein Collection presents special screening of Summit Entertainment’s The
Impossible in New York on Dec. 12.
Five Reasons To See This Movie:
#1 Naomi Watts
While Ewan does a fantastic job playing the father of a family who were devastated by
the tsunami, it is Naomi who steals the show. To be fair, she does get more screen time
playing Maria Bennet, the matriarch of the Bennet family. She is severely injured when
the tsunami hits the tropical resort she and her family are staying in. Yet, throughout her
horrific ordeal, she succeeds in bringing her eldest son to safety.
#2 The history of the story
The story is based on a true family’s ordeal, and Naomi and Ewan play the parents of
three young sons who are playing by their hotel pool when the deadly wave hit. While
Maria and the eldest son Lucas battle the waves, Henry [Ewan] and the younger sons
are fighting their own battle to survive. It is a harrowing and realistic portrayal of what is
one of the world’s most horrendous tragedies.
#3 It’s true
It is a totally true story of a real Spanish family, who beat all odds when all five members
escaped the waves with their lives intact. You will find yourselves rooting for their
survival throughout the film, and all the while it gives you a greater perspective of how
awful and terrifying the event must have been. When you see Maria and her son being
churned violently in water that is full of cars, debris, branches and all sorts of other
deadly weapons, you wonder how on earth they got out alive.
#4 It’s emotional
It is so emotional! This film is totally bittersweet, as you are filled with joy when you see
the family reunited, after they believed that the other family members were dead.
However, it is also so sad, as there are dramatic renditions of people frantically
searching for their families, and you know that their tale won’t end like the Bennet’s. And
there is also the horrifying images of those who didn’t survive the tragedy.
#5 It’s inspiring
It really is an inspiring tale of survival. Against all the odds, the Bennet family make it
home to tell the tale of their struggle through the tsunami. It really will make you stop
taking things for granted.
Everyone should go see this movie!
