dedicated to safe and productive summer recreational environments
for children ages 6-13.
We recognize that children need a balance of structured and
unstructured activity, and we strive to provide that variety. We also
believe in offering choices to children whenever appropriate to
encourage positive decision-making and social interaction.
Staff members will help your child explore areas of interest and
create opportunities for lifelong learning and discovery. Please review

Program Staff
Willamalane Summer Day Camp staff members are experienced in
educa­tion, recreation and other child-related programs. They receive
ongoing training in the areas of child development, behavior
management, quality environments, creative programming, active
supervision, health and safety. We maintain a staff to student ratio of
1:15. All staff are trained in CPR and first aid, blood borne pathogens,
and recognizing and reporting child abuse. All staff members possess an
Oregon Food Handlers card.
Activities
Staff members meet regularly to plan activities and to share
resources for programming. Whenever possible, kids are given choices
to help them learn to make positive decisions and to allow them to do
the activities they enjoy the most. Here is a sampling of activities:

Program Fees
Sports of All Sorts (Ages 7-11)
Camp fees vary depending on the camp that you choose to have your child
attend. All camp enrollment and fees are charged on a weekly basis.
Weekly fees include afternoon snack, transportation to and from field trips,
field trip admissions and swimming. A 20% sibling discount can be applies for
families who sign up more than one child for the same week of the same camp.
Sports, sports and more sports! Campers will receive basic instruction in a
variety of sport and play games to try out their new skills in a noncompetitive
environment. This camp is perfect for kids who enjoy lots of physical activity.
Campers are required to wear closed-toe athletic shoes and should bring their
own non-perishable lunch, water bottle and sunscreen each day. Each week
features swim trips to Willamalane Park Swim Center and Splash! at Lively
Park.
OD (Out-of-district families) is for families that do not currently own property
within Springfield.
IND (In district families) is based on the actual cost for a camper to
participate in one session
Dorris Ranch Discovery Camp (Ages 7-11)
Dorris Ranch Discovery Camp is held at Willamalane’s historical Dorris
Ranch. This camp is perfect for kids who like to be outside and active. Campers
spend a majority of their time outdoors, so it is highly recommended that
campers wear closed-toe shoes and have sunscreen, water and a backpack.
Campers should also bring a non-perishable lunch each day. Join us for a variety
of activities, field trips, swimming and special guests that will teach us the world
of the outdoors.

Explorers Camp (Ages 6-7)
Explorers Camp is designed for those campers who have graduated
kindergarten and first grade. This camp is perfect for the child interested in a day
full of hands-on activities, includ­ing field trips, swimming, crafts and active
play. Snacks are provided each morning and afternoon. Campers should bring
their own non-perishable lunch; refrigeration is not available. Participants should
come dressed for active play, with closed-toe shoes and outdoor attire. Sunscreen
and swimsuits are recommended daily.

Camp Kaboom West & East (Ages 7-11)
Camp Kaboom! West is held at Guy Lee Elementary School and Camp
Kaboom! East is held at Ridgeview Elementary School. This camp is perfect for
kids with curious, active minds who enjoy a variety of activities. Each week
features special guests, a field trip and swimming. Campers should be prepared
for active games and bring sunscreen and a water bottle each day. Campers will
be required to bring their own non-perishable lunch.

Camp Two50 (Ages 11-13)
Camp Two50 is located in Two50 youth center inside Willamalane Center.
This is a day camp designed for middle school youth. Camp is open from 8:00
a.m. to 4 p.m. with weekly swim trips, barbecues at local parks, theme based
field trips and so much more. This camp will keep your kid busy and moving all
summer long. Closed-toe shoes, two filled water bottles, sunscreen and swim­
ming suit with towel are recommended every day.

Adult and Family Services Payments
It's almost time to hit the books, but before we say good-bye to summer let's
revisit some of our favorite activities from the past few months. Plan your bucket
list of activities to do before school starts and see how many you can check off.
Swimming and field trips round out the week
If all or part of your fees will be paid through Adult and Family Services or any
other program, you must turn in a DHS letter of eligibility form (7494E) to the
billing office before your child may attend the program. It is your responsibility to
make any necessary co-payments and fees beyond AFS payments. Co-payments are
due by the 10th of the month that care is provided, or your child will be unable to
attend the program. AFS vouchers will be available for parent signature at your
child’s site at the beginning of each month. Vouchers must be signed and given to
the site staff no later than the 10th of each month.
All AFS patrons will be billed for all registered weeks. If you wish to add or
delete weeks, you must call our office no later than the Thursday prior to the week
in question. If notification is not given, or if AFS will not provide payment for any
given week(s), you will be responsible for the unpaid balance. If payment is not
made and we are forced to send the account to a collection agency, your fees will
be doubled to cover the costs. AFS patrons must call 541-736-4550 or visit
Willamalane Center to pay their co-payment.

Additional Program Fees
Additional program fees may be assessed as a penalty for not picking up
children on time or not providing a lunch for your child. These additional fees
will be added as an unpaid balance to your account. All fees must be paid prior
to registering for the any future weeks of camp. Failure to do so will jeopardize
your child’s enrollment for any future weeks of camp.

Billing and Financial Agreement
It is your responsibility to pay your fees. Fees are due at the time of online
registration completion. Online registrations will not be completed without
payment and child will not be enrolled. Registration for each week of camp is
due the Thursday prior to the week attending. Any and all weeks may be pre­
paid and will guarantee your space in camp. Please do not mail, call or send
your payment with your child to camp. Children will not be accepted to camp
if prior balances are not paid.
Willamalane has a scholarship program for those who meet established
guidelines. If you qualify, you will still be responsible for a portion of your fees
and you will be subject to all Willamalane Park and Recreation District financial
policies. You may obtain an application from Willamalane Center. Scholarship
applications must be submitted once per fiscal year (July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017).
Unused scholarship funds will not roll over to the next fiscal year.
Program Withdrawal/Refunds/Credits
No refunds, credits or reallocation of funds will be given for missed days,
extended absences or program cancellations due to weather. Camp fees will not
be prorated for participants who sign up late for camp. To receive a refund or
credit for withdrawing from a camp, please see the following procedures.

at least 14 calendar days prior to the camp.
3.) Request to withdraw from camp to receive 50% refund or credit must be done at
least 5 calendar days prior to the camp.
4.) Requests to withdraw from camp with less than 5 calendar days prior to the start
of camp, will not receive a refund or credit.
If fees are not paid, your child will not be allowed to attend camp. No payments
will be accepted at the site or by program staff
* All Willamalane scholarship funds that are being used for that week of camp will
be returned to that participants account when a withdraw request is made.*

SUMMER CAMP POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Daily Check-In/Checkout
Children must be signed in and out by a parent, guardian or other au­
thorized person each day. Please note that teen camps allow students to sign
themselves in and out if there is a letter on file. If someone not listed on your
registration form as authorized to pick up your child, arrives to pick up your
child, your child will not be released to that person until we call you for
authorization. For the safety of your child, we strongly enforce this rule. Be
prepared with identification at all times. The staff will check these often.
Changes in Vital Information
Please notify the camp staff or the Willamalane Center office with
any changes in address, phone number, job, authorized guardians or emergency
contact information. Emergencies may arise with your child and it is very
important that staff have updated, accurate information with which to reach you.
Please be sure to include all updated information during the online registration
process.
Snacks and Lunches
An afternoon snack is provided daily. Children must bring a sack lunch and
two bottles of water. A $5 lunch fee will be assessed if camp staff are forced to
provide a lunch for a child. Camp Kaboom West campers can take advantage of
the free FOOD for Lane County summer meals program if they would like. This
may not be an option if camp is off site on a field trip.
Refrigerators and microwaves are not available. If you would like to provide
the group with a special treat for your child’s birthday or other occasion, please
notify staff members in advance. Health regulations require that all food
brought in by parents must be commercially prepared and packaged. Snack
schedule varies by camp. Please check with camp staff.

Waiting Lists
There may be times when the program you are interested in is full. Sign up
for the waiting list by contacting us at Willamalane Center or add your name to
the list using your online account. You will be contacted when an opening
occurs. You will then have two working days to register. If you have not
registered within that two-day period, your name will be taken off the waiting
list. Please note that waiting lists do not guarantee you a spot in the program.
Dress and Grooming
A camper’s dress and grooming is the responsibility of the individual camper
and his or her parents. When dress and grooming disrupt Willamalane day camps,
camp supervisors will take appropriate action. Such action may include asking
the camper to change clothing, and possibly sending the student home for the
day.
Please follow these guidelines:
• Dress and grooming shall be clean and in keeping with health and sanitary
practices. Articles of clothing and accessories may not create a safety hazard to
the individual camper or others.
• Campers should come to the program in the appropriate dress for the days
activities.
• Articles of clothing that advertise or promote the use of alcohol, tobacco
or drug products, or that display sexually suggestive words or pictures, are not
permitted in Willamalane programs.
• Gangs having identifying dress or symbols and accessories, have criteria for
exclusive group membership or territory, and that engage in criminal or antisocial
behavior including intimidating or discriminatory activities, are not permitted in
Willamalane programs and are subject to immediate removal from camp.
Cell Phones and Pagers
Cell phones and pagers are to be turned off when campers arrive at camp. If a
cell phone or pager is in sight, a staff member will confiscate the phone and will
hold it for the camper’s parent or guardian.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse
All Willamalane day camp staff members are considered mandatory
reporters by the state of Oregon and are required to report suspected child abuse
or neglect to the Department of Human Services. Willamalane will work with
DHS and families, as appropriate, to ensure the health and safety of children in
the program. When a report is made, Willamalane will continue to work with
and support the child and family. The report will be treated confidentially.

Transportation
Personal Items
All field trips will be taken in either Willamalane vans/buses, driven by
trained Willamalane staff members or in buses driven by certified drivers. To
participate in field trips where it is necessary to use Willamalane vans, children
less than 4 feet 9 inches tall must use a booster seat until they reach the age of 8.
Any items from home should be clearly marked/labeled with your child’s
name. This includes clothing, backpacks, books, etc. Please encourage your child
to keep toy guns/weapons, expensive personal items, candy, gum and makeup at
home.
Although staff members will make every effort to help make sure that
jackets, backpacks, projects, etc., make it home each day, belongings are
ultimately the responsibility of the child and parents. After two weeks, all lost
and found items will be donated to a local charity.
Illness/Communicable Diseases
Parents and staff members share responsibility for reducing exposure to and
stopping the spread of communicable diseases. Our illness policy states that
children need to be free and clear of the following symptoms/illnesses for at least
24 hours BEFORE returning to camp.
If your child has any of the following symptoms, he or she cannot remain in Day
Camp:
Fever over 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit
Diarrhea (more than one abnormally loose stool per day)
Vomiting
If your child shows any of the above signs, he/she will be isolated and you
will be notified. It is your responsibility to pick up your child immediately or to
make arrangements for someone else to do so. These precautions protect the
health of your child and the other children in day camp programs.
Children with head lice may not return to the program until the scalp is free
from all traces of lice and nits. If your child has a communicable disease, please
notify us so that we may inform staff and other parents to watch for symptoms.
Medications
All medication is required to be logged in with camp staff. Any medication in
backpacks will be held for parent pickup.
If your child is required to take any prescribed or over the counter medications
while at camp, a staff member will administer it. The medication must be given
to the program staff in a properly labeled container. The label must include: the
date the prescription was filled, child’s name, physician’s name, drug name and
dosage, and instructions on when and how to give the medication.
Camp staff members will have a supply of the following medications:
children’s acetaminophen (Tylenol), diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and ibuprofen
(Motrin). These medications are only to be administered if parent has authorized
Willamalane to do so on the program registration form. Willamalane staff
members will inform the parent picking up the child that an over-the-counter
medication was administered.
If your child needs sunscreen, a staff member will provide assistance as
needed. Sunscreen must be given to your child’s leader in its original container
with your child’s name on it. We will not provide sunscreen for your child.

Disciplinary Procedures
Staff, parents and the child will work together to provide the maximum
potential for the child’s success in Willamalane day camps. Parents are expected
to be active participants in the behavior management of their child. In extreme
behavior situations, we may call the parent(s) to pick up their child. The parent(s)
will be expected to arrange for immediate pickup.
Please note: We r eser ve the r ight to suspend or dismiss a child fr om the
program if staff members determine that the program cannot meet the needs of the
child, if the child is a physical threat to him/herself or others, or if the child’s
behavior consistently impedes the normal daily functions of the group. Children
may also be dismissed from the program if their parents/guardians demonstrate
inappropriate behavior or fail to cooperate with staff. Parents can­not be involved
in disciplining any child other than their own. Failure to comply with this policy
may result in dismissal from the program.
Bullying Prevention
Bullying is when one of more people exclude, tease, taunt, gossip, hit, kick or put
down another person with the intent to hery another. Bullying happens when a
person or group of people want to have power to get their way, at the expense of
someone else.
Willamalane has a firm policy against all types of bullying. Willamalane staff
members will take any incidents of bullying behavior. We also encourage parents to
let us know about any particular bullying concerns you may have for your child.
Every child has the right to expect the best possible experience in Willamalen
day camps, and by working together as a team to identify and manage bullying, we
can help ensure that all children and staff members enjoy their time in the program.
Publicity Photographs
Willamalane may use photographs of participants in district publicity, on the
news, in newspaper stories, etc. without permission or compensation. If you do not
want your child photographed, contact the main office or camp staff for additional
paperwork.

Behavior Management
Willamalane Day Camp staff members are trained to set up environments and
activities that encourage appropriate behavior. As children experiment with behav­
iors, staff will guide them using multiple behavior management techniques as
learning tools and to help ensure a safe and positive experience for all.
Children enrolled in Willamalane day camps must adhere to our behavior
guidelines on a daily basis and are expected to follow these same expectations on
field and swimming trips, including on the vans and buses. Staff members will
teach behavior expectations the first day a child starts and then as necessary.
To implement positive behavior reinforcement, staff members in Willamalane
day camps will establish behavior expectations for each site. These include the
three main rules in the PBIS program: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible.
Staff members will teach, model and practice these expectations with the children
on a regular basis. Staff members will monitor and provide feedback regarding both
positive and negative behaviors to children and their parents.
Willamalane Day Camp behavior plan follows the Positive Behavioral Interven­
tions and Support model, a program supported and used by Springfield Public
Schools. PBIS is an effective and evidence-based program that serves all students,
creates a culture in the schools and programs, emphasizes the positive, targets all
forms of behavior, states rules and expectations positively and is known by every­
one.
As a part of the PBIS program, staff will regularly use positive reinforcement
techniques to encourage children to participate in activities in a safe and appro­
priate manner. Appropriate behavior will be acknowledged through the use of ver­
bal praise, positive recognition and special incentive programs. Consequences for
not following expectations will be implemented and may include verbal correc­
tions, loss of privileges and redirection. As a final measure, parents will be called to
have their child picked up and removed from that day of camp. Repeated behavior­
al issues may result in the removal of camp for the remainder of the week or for the
remainder of the summer.
Commitment to Nonviolence
Corporal punishment will not be used or tolerated in Willamalane pro­grams.
We will not hit, spank or humiliate your child. We want to ensure all children
understand that they will not be hurt while in a Willamalane day camp. For this
reason, families will not be permitted to hit or spank children while here. We
encourage you to discuss with staff members ways positive discipline can be used
at home. Please help us provide a nurturing environment by ensuring your child
does not come to Willamalane camps in clothing that reinforces violent characters
or actions. And, of course, your child may not bring any weapon (toy or real) to
camp.

Americans with Disabilities Amendment Acts
Willamalane Park and Recreation District is committed to implementing the
intent and spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Acts. Those
who may need inclusion program assistance in order to enjoy our program
should contact us in advance so we can arrange for accommodations. Please call

Disability Supports and Accommodations
Willamalane Park and Recreation District encourages individuals with
disabilities to contact the facility offering the program and/or the inclusion
coordinator a minimum of two weeks in advance of the program start date to
allow time to identify and provide the support and accommodations needed for
participation. The district requests a 72-hour advance notice for the provision of
sign language interpreters.
Supports and adaptations may be required for individuals with disabilities.
The nature and extent of these supports and accommodations are dependent upon
the individual needs, desires and abilities of the participant, the type of activity
and its location. Providing these services is the responsibility of the entire
Willamalane Parks and Recreation District and requires both administrative and
supervisory staff capable of and willing to assist and encourage persons with
mixed abilities to recreate together. Willamalane Parks and Recreation District
provides the following resources and supports.
- Access to certified therapeutic recreational specialists
- Professional consultants
- Training in disabilities, activity modification and behavior management
- Trained staff and volunteers
- 1:1 support staff when determined necessary
- Wheelchair accessible vans
- Adapted equipment
- Information in large print, Braille, on disc, or a reader

Inclusion Program Description
Willamalane Park and Recreation District Inclusion Services is to provide
persons with and without disabilities opportunities to recreate together in
environments that are appropriate, non- restrictive and beneficial for all.
Inclusion requires staff collaboration in providing
ssary services and
individualized support for individuals with disabilities to fully participate in
programs regardless of their functional abilities.
With few exceptions, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates
that community recreation must be available to all people, with and without a
disability. Access to equal services cannot be denied simply due to the cost of
providing such service. Accommodations are individualized and may require
one-on-one
or specific support services due to challenging behaviors.
Sign language interpreters, accessible van transportation, modified equipment,
ramps, specially trained program instructors, adapted devices and equipment are
a few of the individualized “supports” that may be provided in the inclusion
experience. Careful planning, program implementation, training, record keeping,
communication with families, individuals who have disabilities, partnering with
teachers, advocates and others are also essential components of the inclusion
process.
Ongoing evaluation and modification of the supports and inclusion process
are also necessary for services to be successful. Specific protocols of
administrative procedures are used when inclusion services are requested to
ensure that the needs of each participant with a disability are met. The goal is to
keep the approach person-specific and as unobtrusive and normalized as possible
and to identify and provide respectful accommodations that will ensure the safety
and success of all the participants. Providing support and services is the
responsibility of the entire organization.
Willamalane Park and Recreation District actively promotes inclusive
practice in order to best meet the needs of the children, families and staff of our
programs. All individuals are welcome to attend Willamalane Park and
Recreation District programs regardless of ability, need, background, culture,
religion, gender, or economic circumstances. Through inclusive practice, we aim
to reflect our wider community and promote positive attitudes to both the
similarities and differences in each other. In adherence to the Americans with
