TheMSCcosttoconsumers&retailers ThereisasubstantialcostforabrandtoparticipateintheMSCprogramandaddthe MSClogotopackaging.Thenthereisthecostofretailfacinglogo-useroyaltyfees. Unfortunatelythesecostsmustbepassedontoretailersandconsumers.Ratherthan addMSCcertificationanduseitslogo,WildPlanethasdecidedtocontinuetousethe guidanceoftheMontereyBayAquariumSeafoodWatch®programandthereforewill continuetosourceonlypoleandlinecaughttunainaccordancewiththeirhighest recommendation. Conflictinginterestsinfishingmethods MSChasrecentlyembracedotherfishingpracticesthatincludelong-lineandpurse seinefisheries.ThesefisheriesareratedlowerinsustainablestandardbytheMonterey BayAquariumSeafoodWatch®program;thustheMSCstandardhasfallenfromGreen (BestChoice)toYellow(GoodAlternative)inMBA’stunarankings.Frankly,Wild PlanetfeelsthatMSCiscontinuallyloweringthecriteriarequiredforafisherytoqualify fortheMSClogouse.
