Sights of a wooded area with seating throughout will not only be relaxing, but a work out as well. 2. The building itself is facing south to maximize solar exposure. The first tile type will be a simple square white tile that will be used around the outside of the pool. 7. 2. Tile The second type of tile will be used inside the pool. The tile will be colorful and fun. There will be a clear difference between the white tile and the tile inside of the pool to prevent any accidents that could occur. 5. 3. Tile 3. The final type of tile will be used in the locker rooms. It will be in a basket woven design with a co-ed color scheme of black and white. Tile is used in all places that water will be expected. 4. 6. Elevator 4. Marble An elevator is added along with a few other handicap accessible options in the building. The elevator is useful in a two story building not only for the handicap, but for everyone. Marble will be used in the bathrooms that aren't a part of the locker rooms. Marble gives a room a sleek look. With marble being naturally resistant to bacteria, it is a perfect option for a bathroom. 5. Triple Pane Windows Triple pane windows are an energy efficient option They will be used on all of the windows. Triple pane windows will prevent any unwanted air to leave the building and any wanted air to stay inside the building. The windows reduce energy bills immensely. 7. Stucco Stucco will be used on exterior walls. It is an eco friendly option for an exterior finish. It prevents rotting by resisting water vapor from getting to the interior and improves the air quality inside the building. Climate Exterior Wall Structure 1. Exterior 2. 3. Temperature As you can see in the table above, January is the coldest month of the year and July is the warmest month of the year. Window Placement Window placement is key for air flow. Windows are strategically placed higher on the walls to let the space be more comfortable and let the air flow correctly. It also brings in a lot of natural light which is good for cutting back on energy Floor plans Elevator Elevators allow handicap people to easily travel to or from the first floor to or from the second floor. Ramps There is a ramp leading into the building. It is located right next the staircase. It's separated into two parts so its easier for a wheelchair to maneuver. Wide Hallways Wide hallways are shown throughout the building. This allows two people in wheelchairs to move through the building with ease. Floor plans are important for air flow. The open floor plan in this design will ensure proper air flow. A lot of walls will cause the air to be trapped. However, in this building design, the open layout allows air to flow freely. Roof Plan The roof plan was important for the air flow of the building. At the sun's peak, it will be shining on the western side of the building. The roof is set up so the slant will be highest on the western side and slant downward towards the eastern side of the building. The sun will heat the building from the west and move through the building eastward. The cooler air from the west will even air flow out and provide a comfortable space. Miscellaneous Miscellaneous handicap accessibility will be available throughout the building. There will be handicap accessible parking, bathrooms, and doorways, and seating. 3. 2. 1. Materials for 2nd Floor 5. 1. Bamboo Bamboo is becoming one of the hottest trends in wood flooring. It is used in most areas of the building. Bamboo is aestically pleasing because of the grain tightness and color. Bamboo is enviromentally-friendly because it's fast growing and plentiful. 8. 2. Carpet Carpet is used in the library. Libraries are meant to be quiet. Having a soft surface will reduce loud footsteps that hardwood produce. Versatility, comfort, ease of care, and low cost all contribute to the benefits of carpet in small areas. 4. 6. 3. Hardwood Floors Hardwood flooring will be used in the convenience store located next to the tennis courts. Brazilian cherry wood floors add elegance, beauty, and rich colors to any room. Brazilian cherry is durable and will last decades. 7. 6. Stone 4. Gym Flex 5. Flex Court(Tennis) Gym Flex is a court that is used for multiple purposes. Gym Flex courts use tiles instead of wooden flooring to reduce maintenance, injuries, and to increase durability. This court is an excellent choice for the multi-purpose gym used in the community center Flex Court is a High End Performance Sport Flooring.There is a flex court specifically for excelled use in tennis. It reduces back pain and increases comfortability for players. The floor uses sport tiles instead of high maintenance wooden planks. Flagstone pavers will be used for the walkway leading to the stairs. Flagstone will cause the building to have a welcoming entrance and a family friendly look. Flagstone is also very durable, which is crucial for the amount of people that will walk on it. 7. Concrete Concrete is a perfect option for the flooring in the gym that is holding all of the equipment. Concrete can hold the equipment firmly in place. Concrete is also sturdy enough to withstand the heavy weight. Concrete is cold to the touch which will also be convenient for gym users. 8. Plexiglass Plexiglass is used for the panels between the multi purpose gym and the tennis courts.
