In the early years of the American colonies, a persistent displeasure with the Bri sh monarchy began to grow and eventually came the cry, “no taxa on without representa on”. The American colonies had grown red of paying taxes to Britain’s King George III despite having no representa on in the Bri sh parliament. As unrest grew, King George dispatched Bri sh troops to quell the uprising with a threat of force. In June of 1776, the 2nd Con nental Congress met in Philadelphia, PA and formed a team to dra a declara on of independence which would sever all es from Great Britain. The task of crea ng this document fell largely on Thomas Jefferson. However, his original dra was ra fied 86 mes prior to being admi ed as the final dra . This final dra was then adopted by the 2nd Con nental Congress and America’s founding fathers on July 4, 1776 officially marking America’s claim of independence. The following year, on July 4, 1777 the city of Philadelphia held the first Independence Day celebra on with fireworks, barbecues, and parades. However, it was not officially adopted as Independence Day un l 1870, and reaffirmed as a federal holiday in 1938. Prior to passing away, Thomas Jefferson offered these words about the Declara on of Independence and the celebra on of Independence Day: “May it be to the world, what I believe it will be ... the signal of arousing men to burst the chains ... and to assume the blessings and security of self-government. That form, which we have subs tuted, restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. ...For ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollec ons of these rights, and an undiminished devo on to them." So this Independence Day, as you enjoy back yard barbecues and fireworks to the sound of the Star Spangled Banner, take a moment and reflect on the history of the moment. The brave men and women who have served to ensure our freedom against the overwhelming odds and forever solidified these United States as the greatest na on! Moving? Transfer Your Prime Enrollment with Just a Phone Call Frequent moves can be frustrating for active duty families. TRICARE give you one less thing to worry about with Moving Made Easy. Now, whether stateside or overseas, you can transfer enrollment with just one phone call to your new location. You don't need orders; there are no waiting lists and no forms to complete. When you get to your new duty station, just pick up the phone and call your contractor. Moving Made Easy makes sure beneficiaries with special medical needs and complex medical conditions are identified as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition and continuing care. If your family uses the Extended Health Care Option Program (ECHO), your current contractor will notify your new contractor of all civilian care, establish a new case manager or point of contact and coordinate all transfer requests. Your current contractor will also provide ECHO eligibility and get clinical information from your providers. They will also share your Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) enrollment, cap amounts paid and current authorizations. When you arrive at your new duty station, your new contractor should have all of your information. If you or a family member needs care within 30 days of arriving at your new location, your former contractor will work with the local military hospital for care, including arranging network care if required. If you need care while traveling, you can use urgent care without an authorization. The Urgent Care Pilot program allows Prime beneficiaries two visits to a network or TRICARE-authorized provider without a referral or prior authorization. For a list of all providers eligible, visit the TRICARE website: http://www.tricare.mil/LifeEvents/Moving.aspx Explore Hawaii– 4th of July Fireworks! Did you know that many successful architects, lawyers, engineers—even best selling novelists—had dif iculties learning to read and write as children? In this groundbreaking book, Brock and Fernette Eide explain how 20 percent of people—individuals with dyslexia— share a unique learning style that can create advantages in a classroom, at a job, or at home. Using their combined expertise in neurology and education, the authors show how these individuals not only perceive the written word differently, but may also excel at spatial reasoning, see insightful connections that others simply miss, understand the world in stories, and display amazing creativity. Blast off to Reading R is a complete reading program for those students who have dyslexia or for those who simply struggle to read. This Orton-Gillingham based program will systematically take your student from the most basic units of sounds to multi-syllable, complex words in 50 lessons. Each lesson is created to include a new sound, or rule, with a reading task followed by several exercises, which review concepts taught in that lesson as well as those taught previously. This provides the perfect blend of reading and writing, with review, while the student learns to become aware of sounds and how they are put together to form words. July Ongoing—Poli’s Place.
