What are the Ontario Junior Provincial Closed Tennis Championships?
• The official Junior Tennis Championships for the Province of Ontario
• 450 Girls and boys singles and doubles events in Under 12, 14, 16 and 18 categories, largest junior tennis
tournament in Canada
• Sanctioned by the Ontario Tennis Association, (OTA)
• Began in 1920’s
• Held at Kew Gardens Tennis Club since 1948, (67 years or more)

Why is it important to hold the event at Kew Gardens Tennis Club?
• Tradition – the event has been a part of the Club and the Beach community’s history since at least 1948 –
considered the “home” of the tournament
• Ideal location – has both official tournament surfaces (clay and hard court), easy access to public transit,
proximity to the DVP & Gardiner, and Queen Street restaurants & shops
• Great tournament hosting venue – full service club house, beautiful beach and parkland for children to enjoy,
professional tournament atmosphere, great viewing access for spectators
