Remember the time - Klein Oak High School
Issue II, Nov. 2009 Entertainment Remember the time By Taelor Pawnell Entertainment Editor Full of number one hits, eye-catching displays, and unforgettable dance moves, fans poured into movie theaters all across the world. Many went to watch an artist perform months prior to his last days. “This Is It,” features Michael Jackson planning and rehearsing for his upcoming tour in London days before his unexpected cardiac arrest. Making more than 101 million dollars in the first five days, this movie proved to be more than just an ordinary concert film. This was a chance for fans to connect and see Jackson in a way that they have never seen him before. “This Is It” begins with short snippets of commentary from all those involved in the making of the concert. From the dancers to the band members, all came to the consensus that working behind “The King of Pop” was a once in a life time opportunity. As the movie progresses, the viewer sees the director Kenny Ortega, who has worked with films such as “High School Musical” and the “Miley Cyrus/ Hannah Montana” concert film, suggesting things for the look and sound of the concert. Although Jackson was humble of his success and achievements he knew all of his records and would accept nothing but perfection from his team. The concert was to feature a 3D remake of the video ‘Thriller’ and a black and white 3D version of ‘Smooth Criminal’. He wanted his concert to be a form of escape for his fans, that included pyrotechnics and large LCD screens. “This Is It” portrays a down- to – earth, childish side of Jackson. As the movie progresses he is always found smiling or making jokes. Although this movie was only planned to be in theaters for two weeks prior to its release on DVD, Sony has announced that it will extend “This Is It” throughout Thanksgiving weekend. This movie is worth seeing, with evaluation latimes.com sites such as Rottentomatoes. com giving the movie an 80 percent rating, and it being number one on the movie charts right now. “This Is It” shows Michael Jackson in a new light, and gives fans a chance to learn a little more about his personality that many didn’t get to see due to the media. With different stories on his death, past calamities, and his life in general, fans didn’t necessarily get a clear view of who Jackson really was. This movie establishes exactly what Jackson should be remembered as – a gentle and humble entertainer, who wanted nothing more than peace for the world.
