These are recognised as trusted industry
Standards, used to assist in compliance with
national legislation and official approved codes
of practice and guidance. The Standards are
drafted by expert Panels representing a crosssection of the relevant parts of the gas industry.
Regulatory bodies such as HSE, Ofgem and Gas
Safe RegisterTM contribute to the drafting
process. The drafts are issued to the industry
and other stakeholders for review and comment
prior to publication and, thus, take into account
the sometimes broad range of views on the
content. The professional status of IGEM
ensures its Standards reflect the best possible
levels of safety, practice and quality within
reasonable cost.

Since its launch in 2005 the IGEM Directory has been circulated
to an increasing number of organisations and individuals
throughout the UK gas industry and to our international affiliate
and partner organisations. The Directory is also included within
information packs that we distribute at many of our own events
and elsewhere where we seek to increase our profile. It is a good
way to introduce IGEM and at the same time generate a wider
awareness of our Industrial Affiliate and Consultant members.
The breadth of coverage and the technical experience of our
affiliate membership is a key strength of the Institution. Easy
access to this vast wealth of expertise is what makes this
Directory a key reference for our members.
2011 will be an exciting year for IGEM as the
findings from the strategic review start to be
implemented into positive changes for IGEM.
Membership will continue to broaden
following the introduction in 2010 of two new
grades of membership; Gas Technician and
Licensed Gas Technician. The Technical
department will continue its good work
aiming to publish eight new Standards and
hold nine seminars. The year will also see the
launch of IGEM’s new website and the
redesign of the journal, Gas International,
Engineering and Management. Make sure that
you’re signed up to receive the IGEM Flame,
our e-newsletter, to receive the latest news
from IGEM every month.
We consider the Directory to be a useful
reference tool for our membership and as such
we welcome any feedback on how you think
that we can improve it. If you are reading a
printed copy of this directory you will notice
that this year we have again opted for an A4
format following positive feedback from
Members on the 2010 version. If you are using

The China Gas Association (CGA) is a not-forprofit, non-governmental professional
organisation formed by City Gas Companies in
China formed under the jurisdiction of the
Ministry of Construction of the People’s
Republic of China. Organisations working in
and around the gas industry in China join as
members of CGA on voluntary basis. CGA aims
to serve the public, represent the interests of
the industry and enhance networking among its
members. CGA also facilitates government
departments in monitoring the operation of
projects and activities in the gas industry, acts

and enhances the development of the Chinese

The Gas and Pipelines Unit is responsible for
HSE's operations in the gas supply industry and
in industries transporting hazardous substances
by pipeline. The unit enforces health and safety
law in relation to upstream natural gas
transmission and distribution networks; gas
storage facilities; onshore major hazard
pipelines; offshore pipelines; and other
associated high hazard sites.

Czech Gas Association’s key mission is to work
for the benefit of the gas industry’s professional
interests and needs, help to raise its levels of
expertise, facilitate the transmission of
information from the European and global gas
industry, represent the Czech gas industry at the
international level (IGU, ENGVA, MARCOGAZ,
etc.) and in the drafting of international and
national legal and technical regulations.
Founded in 1874, AFG is one of the oldest gas
associations in the world. It has over 1500
members from the French and foreign gas
industry (natural gas and liquefied petroleum
gas), allied industries and business companies,
associations, etc. AFG is headed by a Board of
Directors and is composed of representatives
from the gas industry from exploration and
production to the burner tip.
Its main aims embrace:
To develop and promote the French gas industry
To encourage technical activities of interest to
the gas sector
To provide and develop training and refresher
courses for engineers and other professionals in
the gas industry
To co-ordinate and plan standardisation work
for the gas industry
To administer gas certification procedures for
the products used in the gas line process
represent the French gas industry abroad
