As the world gears up for international friendship day on 5th of August, the Pre primary and Primary celebrated it on 1st Aug where children presented an exciting, fun filled program in the assembly. The spirit of friendship and importance of friends in our life was shown through a dramatization performed by our Pre-primary students. Children of Grade I and II celebrated friendship day by tying handmade friendship bands to each other. Grade III & IV exchanged cards which they made in their Art class with their friends Raksha Bandhan Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the abiding and immaculate bond of love between brother and sister. Raksha Bandhan was celebrated in our school a day before the festival. The teachers explained the significance of the festival in their respective classes while the excited girls tied the auspicious thread(Rakhi)around the wrist of the boys who gave sweets and chocolates in exchange. The most exciting thing about this celebration was that the girls tied hand-made Rakhis to their classmates. They learnt Rakhi –making in their art class and finally ended up making beautiful Rakhis out of their creativity. Overall we recall this celebration as a sweet memory in our records and hope you also are happy to hear that we celebrate all Indian festivals with similar joy & enthusiasm in our school through out the year. SURYA ACADEMY PAGE 3 INDEPENDENCE DAY Independence Day was celebrated with a flag hoisting ceremony. We celebrate this day with great zeal in our school. This year we had great preparations to celebrate Independence Day in our school. Every one of us was eager to take part in the Celebration. Students of the Primary presented a monologue on famous Freedom Fighters like Mahatma Gandhi , Alluri Sitaramaraju, Subash Chandra Bose , Bhagat Singh and also National leaders like Indira Gandhi , Jawaharlal Nehru. The school choir sang patriotic songs, The school cabinet had a march past along with the school House captains and their group students marching along with them. The Chief Guest, Mr. T.L.V. Rao received a grand salute as the cabinet passed by and later he addressed the student gathering about how to be a civilized citizen of tomorrow. Investiture Ceremony “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are a leader “ by John Quincy Adams. The Investiture Ceremony of the School was held as a special ceremony on 15th August 2014. The event was presided over by the Director of the school , Mr. T.L.V. Rao & the School Principal, Mrs. Jyoti Naidu. The new Head Boy, Master Pranay of Grade V, and Head Girl, Ms. Chinamayee of Grade V promised a definite change for a better tomorrow in the school. This was followed by the entire council taking an oath to discharge their duties with sincerity and meet the expectations of the Institution. The cabinet members marched sprightly and majestically in sync with the beating of the drums to the school ground for the proceedings. It was conducted with a high degree of sincerity and enthusiasm. SURYA ACADEMY VOLUME—3 PAGE 4 JANMASHTAMI CELEBRATIONS Our campus wore a festive look on Janmashtami with the students in colourful attires of Radha and Krishna being prepared for the `Matki Todh' event which happened amidst all the Primary students and was of much enthusiasm. The significance of Krishna’s birth and his role as a mentor in the historian times was recalled. The whole Pre Primary block was excited as they celebrated Janmashtami with the mesmerising dance and song performances by students dressed up as cherubic little Radhas & Krishnas. The Makhanchor scene stole the show & thrilled the crowd. The staging of an event out of Krishna’s life, was shown by the Pre-Primary students. The scene showing Krishna’s mother making curds, butter etc. was amusing while Krishna was shown busy teasing the girls while playing the flute (Bansuri). The play was enjoyed by all. PAGE 5 TEA TIME TALK Tea time was hosted for parents of Grade III and Grade IV during this month and we are happy to receive positive responses about the happenings of our school from our parents. Parent suggestions are of a great value addition to our student outcome, whether it is academics or non-academics and we have taken the suggestions with a positive note and made strong affirmations among ourselves as a team, that we shall certainly make a difference in the life of each child being here with us. Parent consistent support in this regard is highly recommended SCHOOL ASSEMBLY We are making our School assembly as effective as possible with a new concept being learnt everyday. Our assembly comprises of an inspiring Thought for the Day , Sayings of Legendary personalities like Swami Vivekananda , Rama Krishna Paramahamsa , Sir. C.V. Raman , Mother Teresa etc. We host General Knowledge questions during the assembly days so that the horizons of knowledge expand amongst our students. We also dramatize a value based story so that students learn life-skills which are more important and a priority of a student’s life. CLASS PREFECTS of the Primary grades were adorned with their badges by the Principal during one of the assemblies during this month. Principal mam briefed them about their roles and responsibilities as Leaders in their class and how they can be identified as th ICONs of the class. GYMNASTICS COMPETITION PRIZES :Principal mam gave away certificates and medals to students who won prizes in the recently held Gymnastics Inter –school competition conducted at LAL BAHADUR STADIUM during this month. SURYA ACADEMY PAGE 6 CLASS ROOM ACTIVITIES As a part of our activity sessions we have introduced a concept called “Word of the Day” in our classrooms. Students will have an opportunity to enhance their vocabulary with this concept as they will explore new words every day, discuss about that with their classmates and write at least 3 sentences based on the new word that they have learnt . So isn’t that interesting, dear Parents ? This month our students performed an exciting role play about the concept – Giving Surprises ! Grade III students did an activity in Science about :How Farmers grow fruits & vegetables ? How they harvest their crop ? How they sell their harvest in the market to earn money ! (SOF)OLYMPIAD EXAMS We are very happy to announce that we have about 50 + registrations for the nationwide known Olympiad exams which cater to Science, Math, International English and General Knowledge based tests. These tests are likely to happen in the month of October and our students are enthusiastically getting prepared to face these competitive papers. Students are using referrals like newspapers , digests , internet research and several other aids which would help them get an idea of what and how to prepare for the tests. We wish them good luck and see them as High fliers soon. THE Xseed ... ( I CAN CHALLENGE ) Individuals with social learning challenges have multiple opportunities to engage in social activities across a day, but their success greatly depends on the skills and experience they have to negotiate with each encounter. Social problem-solving is an important skill for living in a social world. Some have limited skills and experience identifying and solving social dilemmas, which may place them at future risk for being socially isolated. Thus , our educators of Surya Academy have taken up a challenge with the Project :- Hand Holding ( an initiative shown by our Principal ) and are seeking additional resources to meet the needs of students studying in Government schools and who are struggling with social learning weaknesses. We Can Make It Better! By involving our students in this mission we want to provide our students with safe and motivating social problem-solving practice. With the right tools, practice and understanding, students can learn how to make good choices — in their thoughts, actions and words — that result in improved social interactions. With a bank of successes to draw upon and opportunities to generalize their way of thinking to real-life situations, they may increase their potential for positive social interactions in the future. SURYA ACADEMY PAGE 7 GANESHA MAKING COMPETITION A day before Ganesh chathurthi, on 28th August , we conducted Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol making competition for our children. Our Primary children participated in making Ganesh idols with dough , clay , twigs , leaves and vegetable , fruit carvings. Ganeshas were made in an eco-friendly way without using chemical powders, colours or paints. It was really a joyous occasion that we witnessed. The innovative creativity brought out from the children was really praise worthy. Every idol made was different from each other reflecting the minds and hearts of our Primary students. They truly deserved an applaud for a great job done ! SURYA ACADEMY PAGE 8 FAMILY DAY CELEBRATION :The Importance of Family Bonding Amazing things can happen when a family comes together to do things together. A family that can bond together will be a family that is united forever. Decades of research have shown that most happy families communicate effectively. But talking doesn’t mean simply “talking “ Talking also means telling a positive story about yourselves. To inculcate this special feeling about bonding in the Family , we celebrated love, connection and the uniqueness of our parent families on the 30th August as “Family Day” We had our lovely parents dressed in ethinic Indian wear and absolutely stunning . They enjoyed the day as they watched their kids sing , talk and dance. They described themselves as a happy family, and recalled some of their family’s positive moments. It was a memorable event for us to cherish . SURYA ACADEMY PRI-PRIMARY EVENTS VOLUME—3 PAGE 9 This month, the Pre primary celebrated several events.
