W
elcome to the third in a series of exciting decorative painting and cultural discovery trips to the exotic
city of Marrakech, Morocco! Marrakech is a jewel in the desert; a city with a rich history and iconic
architecture that benefits from African Berber, Arab and European influences.
A visit to Marrakech is a true delight for all the senses: sights, sounds, smells and tastes, and an experience that will never
be forgotten.
Our painting project, once again, will be at Peacock Pavilions, a boutique hotel built by Maryam Montague and her husband
just outside of Marrakech. Maryam is an internationally famous blogger and soon-to-be author of her own book on
Moroccan decorating and entertaining. This project will involve the decoration of an entertainment and separate bar tent
that will be used on-site at Peacock Pavilions to host special occasions and events. http://moroccanmaryam.typepad.com/
Prior trip projects have been executed inside the main house and guest houses and have incorporated designs and imagery
from henna designs and classic Moroccan zelij tile patterns. For this trip our design muse will be Moroccan embroidery
designs in the distinct styles of both Fez and Rabat, two important cities and cultural centers within Morocco.
We will divide our stay between Peacock Pavilions and the Hotel du Tresor, a boutique hotel located in the historic Medina
(old city) area of Marrakech. At both locations we will enjoy unparalleled hospitality, food, and delightful accommodations.
In our free time we will explore historical cities and sites together, shop in the souks and “new city” with Maryam at her
“special sources”, and enjoy entertaining nightlife and delicious dining. You will also have the opportunity to spend free time
on your own exploring this amazing city, immediate area, and all it has to offer.

Going: Leave JFK Flight 201@ 8:20pm
Returning: Leave Marrakech (RAK) Flight 400 @6:15am
Both flights have transfers in Casablanca
The best way to book is through a site like Kayak.com. The
cost of the flight has always varied between $800 and $1300. I
recommend that you do a search on the flight at www.kayak.com
and set up an email fair alert for the search so you can try to catch
the fare when it is low and BOOK it then.
Alternatively, you can look at booking flights through other cities
in Europe, as most European countries have regularly scheduled
flights into Morocco. You will just want to arrange to arrive on that
same Saturday morning.
