Simon Kenton Council – Who We Are
The Simon Kenton Council is one of the largest Boy Scout councils in the nation serving
23,000 youth in 17 counties in central and southern Ohio, and Greenup County in
northern Kentucky. The Council is staffed by 22 professional Scouters with more than
8,000 adult volunteers delivering the scouting program to more than 23,000 youth. We
are joined by more than 550 charter partner organizations sponsoring the 854 Cub Scout,
Boy Scout, Venturing, and Exploring units in our Council. The Council's goal is to be the
premiere leader in youth development by delivering on the promise to provide character
growth, citizenship training, personal fitness and fun. The values we strive to instill are
based on those found in the Scout Oath and Law and Outdoor Code.

Continuing a Successful Partnership
The Boy Scouts of America and the Columbus Clippers
A Perfect Fit
The Simon Kenton Council and the Columbus Clippers have partnered during Scouting’s
spring recruitment campaign for the past two years. With a goal of attracting new youth
to the Scouting program while enhancing the visibility of the Columbus Clippers in the
community and increasing attendance at the annual “Scout Night with the Clippers”
event, this successful partnership has created a win-win situation for both parties.
Simon Kenton Council would like to thank the Columbus Clippers for their support of the
“Pitch for Scouting” campaign which has allowed us to not only produce top-notch
recruitment materials to attract more families to the Scouting program but to have
ultimately led to the recruitment of more than 1,000 new youth into the program each
spring.
It is because of partnerships like the “Pitch for Scouting” campaign that youth in our
community get excited about joining Scouting. When a Scout is recruited to join the
program in the spring he immediately receives a postcard inviting him to participate in
exciting upcoming Scouting events, including the “Scout Night with the Clippers” event.
This special promotion has led to an increase in attendance at the “Scout Night with the
Clippers.” Attendance exceeded 900 Scouts in 2011.
Simon Kenton Council’s
“Pitch for Scouting” Exposure Opportunities:
Flyer distribution: Thousands of flyers will be distributed to elementary schools
in Simon Kenton Council’s 18 county territory. The flyers will include the “Pitch
for Scouting” theme and will include the logo of the Columbus Clippers as well
as verbiage highlighting the team as the spring recruitment sponsor: “Proudly
Sponsored By: The Columbus Clippers.”
“Hot Card” promotion: More than 1,000 new Scouts will receive information
about “Scout Night with the Columbus Clippers” through a special card they
receive when they sign up.
“Pitch for Scouting” Posters: 500 posters highlighting the “Pitch for Scouting”
campaign will be printed and displayed in schools, churches and businesses in the
council’s 18 county territory.
“Pitch for Scouting” patch: A “Pitch for Scouting” patch will be designed and
given to the new Scouts joining the program. This patch will include the Clippers
logo/name and will be worn by new Scouts throughout the spring and summer.
Summer camp shirt visibility: New to the partnership, Simon Kenton Council
would like to include the Columbus Clipper’s logo on more than 5,000 summer
camp shirts distributed to scouts attending camp this summer. This is great yearround visibility for the Clippers as these shirts are worn throughout the year by
our Scouts and volunteers.
Advertising in The Scouter: The Clippers will receive a full page advertisement
in the May/June issue of The Scouter promoting the “Scout Night with the
Clippers” event. The Scouter is distributed to 3,000 homes and is available
electronically. Similar advertisements sell for $1,400 dollars. In addition, the
Columbus Clippers will be recognized as a partner in the January 2013 issue of
The Scouter which is distributed to 15,000 homes.
Website & Social Media Coverage: “Scout Night with the Columbus Clippers”
will be promoted on Simon Kenton Council’s website and social media outlets
(2,000+ followers on Facebook, 500+ followers on Twitter).
Annual Report: The Columbus Clippers will be recognized in Simon Kenton
Council’s 2012 Annual Report distributed throughout the business community.
Partnership Request:
Simon Kenton Council requests a $5,000 monetary donation from the Columbus
Clipper’s in continuation of the spring “Pitch for Scouting” partnership. Simon Kenton
Council’s family appeal as well as its ability to provide visibility to thousands of families
in an 18 county territory, makes it a natural fit.
