Musicalia Mania
What was once known as “The Super Chick Show,” is what we today call “Musicalia.”
This was in 1973, when they had judges decide who made the cut for the show. Today, Mrs.
Tonniges is the sole decision maker of the acts that will perform in the show. Not until 1981
was the decision made to call the show “Musicalia.” Last weekend, the 2009 show took place.
“It’s definitely a stressful couple of weeks trying to get everything put together in time,”
Heather Proskocil said, a senior here at Ord High School. “Everyone worked very hard and
made it all come together in time.”
The night was filled with talented acts, from our six seniors all the way through our Jr.
High Chorus members. Tyler Keown, another senior at Ord, said, “The backstage crew did a
great job. Without them, Musicalia wouldn’t have been possible. The lollipops made by the
Music Boosters were delicious and I was very bummed about the CD player skipping.” Aside
from the technical difficulties, all the acts performed very well. “There was a wide variety of
talent and I enjoyed being able to be an M.C. this year,” Heather said. “’Joyful, Joyful’ was a
lot of fun and overall I had a good time performing.” The show turned out to be a great success, and we are looking forward to what the next year may bring.

Ord Speaks Out at State Speech
Ord High School sent three competitors to UNK for
the state meet this past Thursday. Tyler Keown competed in
Entertainment, Blanca Vera in Poetry, and Sharon Felt in
Humorous. After departing from the high school at 5:45 in
the morning they traveled down the road to
UNK for their first round at 8 o’clock. “All
of Ord’s competitors did very well, and
gave their best performances of the season,”
according to Mr. Lansman. “We just had
some very hard rounds and tough competition. Overall, I was very pleased with our
level of competition.” Tyler Keown, in his second state appearance for Entertainment, was Ord’s sole representative in the final round and ended up coming
away with a seventh place finish to tie off the year. According to Mrs. Hastings,
“This has been a very good year for us and we really appreciate all of the kids
who have been involved in speech this year.”
Ord Debaters Compete at State Tournament
The Ord Debate Team competed at the
State Tournament on March 20th and 21st to end
the season.
On Friday Megan Cullers competed in the
Lincoln-Douglas style debate. She ended up with
a 2/3 win-loss record and close to the middle of
the pack. There were 29 teams that competed and
Ord was the only non-class A school, so competition was tough.
On Saturday, two Ord teams competed in
the Public Forum style debate. Megan Cullers again competed with partner Deandra Kaslon;
they ended up with a 2/3 record. The other Ord team consisted of Taylor Copp and Courtney
Trampe. They finished the tournament with a 1/4 record. Both teams again competed well for
the high level of competition.
Debate coach Dave Hastings stated, “As the last non-class A school involved in debate,
we always feel like the team on the basketball movie Hoosiers; we are in way over our head.
These schools all have advanced programs and compete ten times as often as we do. We continue to do well, but most importantly, we feel as if the educational benefits of the activity far
outweigh any trophy or medal. It takes a special toughness to compete under these circumstances, and I am so very proud of our kids. They go toe-to-toe with the brightness in Nebraska
and clearly have the abilities and character to do so, and to do well.”

Fired Up!
Nicholas D'Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen headline this teen comedy concerning two high-school football players who attempt to avoid another summer at football camp by becoming cheerleaders. Out on the gridiron, Gerald R. Ford High School students
Shawn Colfax (D'Agosto) and Nick Brady (Olsen) are star players. But summer is drawing near, and this year
neither Shawn nor Nick can stomach the prospect of spending their sun-soaked months lunging at tackling
dummies and getting berated by their coach.
