It was not just a happen-so that Denny Hill stood in the middle of Seattle’s
expanding business District. The matter was quite intentional. The founders of the
city very deliberately selected the flanks of Denny Hill as the site of the city which
they believed would become the New York of the Pacific Coast. The city of their
founding grew even more rapidly than anticipated, and soon surrounded Denny
Hill. The Hill was too high and too steep to be utilized for business purposes, so the
inevitability (at least so it seems at present time) the Hill had to be removed, somehow or other...(cont’d on page 4)
Annual Bake Sale at March Meeting...this event is a huge fund raiser for the club so
please bring your home-baked (or store-bought) cakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies or other
sweet surprises & of course a little extra dough to buy stuff.
CTC Celebrates its 41st Anniversary...Since its fledgling start in 1973 the club has attracted people interested in different aspects of treasure hunting. The availability of metal
detectors for the retail market made weekend detecting an interesting & profitable hobby.
During the 80’s & 90’s the club evolved into a prominent regional presence in the hobby
with its once famous Silver Shoot Weekend, an event attracting families & competition
detectorists from all over the West Coast.
Reflecting many changes in membership & changing times, the club retains a strong central
core of members & is committed to increasing interest in the hobby & educating its members on
the ever changing regulations that affect it. Most of all the club is dedicated to having fun & has
many social activities in which to participate in.
Joys & Concerns...everyone is doing ok as far as we know.
Membership Dues are Due...($25.00 single, $30.00 family) Payment of dues must be
before Mar.1, 2014 to enter the March Find of the Month & other raffles.
2013 Awards...Special recognition was given to Mark Kulseth for his outstanding contributions to
the club & awarded 2013 Outstanding Member of the Year. The 2013 Treasure Hunter of the Year
was jointly won by Gary Clark & Ron Aldridge. Mark Jenkins won Best Find of 2013 with his
1892-S Barber Quarter & the Oldest Find in Washington State was won by Matt Mechler with
his 1850’s Military Button. Both members were awarded a Silver Eagle.

Loraine Robbins for failing to boil water properly thus setting off the fire alarm.

The Club Plaque Contest...The club plaque is a unique piece of metal buried somewhere
in King County & a clue to its location is given monthly until found.
A prize of $20.00 will be awarded to the lucky finder.
- Clue 1: The sound of the last streetcar echoed from the ravine as the young women headed home from the fair...
- Clue 2: Once a place where old growth timber stood until an official thought someone else needed the wood...
- Clue 3: Off the bend in the road a place to park...a short northern walk & you can see the mark.
March 6th Board Meeting...Thursday, 7:00 p.m. at John & Donna Shape’s home. Please
call for details 253-804-3513.
March 9th Meeting...Bake Sale! No theme for this meeting. John Beekley will bring his
plastic laminator - bring your wallet cards & items to be protected. Cookies compliments of
Joe Sacco & Sue Kaas.
Upcoming Events...Club Outing: Saturday, Mar.1st, 9 a.m. Wellington Hills Park, 7026
240th St. SE, Woodinville 98702, Bake Sale: March 9th meeting...Puget Sound Treasure
Hunter’s Night Hunt, Mar. 8, Reber Ranch, Kent.
Detecting on Public Land...When in doubt check with city, county, state or other intergovernmental websites for current regulations as there could be serious consequences
both for you & the hobby in general. WA State Parks Metal Detecting Pamphlet answers
many questions on which state parks are open & where to hunt. Their website has maps &
registration forms for many of the open parks.
Detecting Alert...Now that ground is wet again it is recommended to use a ground cloth or
similar to keep the dirt from discoloring the grass & leaving a mess.
Activity Fees for Non-members...continuing in 2014 $15.00 for a club activity & $12.00
for hunt only.
