Welcome to the Who, What, When, Where? Guide for Apogaea 2013!
It doesn’t matter how you mix ‘em, there’s a whole lot of W’s out there, and this book is here to help you find ‘em all: events,
art, and camps. Also, remember that fun, events, and art will be occurring in unscheduled and unplanned locations. But,
DON’T WANDER OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES looking for them, as this is grounds for expulsion from the event.
Apogaea is what you make it! The entertainment is what you and your fellow participants create. Whatever your
special talent might be, share with us!
In case of severe weather, forest fire, or other need for evacuation, please come to Center
Camp for more information, and listen for announcements broadcast on the large sound
systems. Do NOT attempt to leave in your own vehicle unless instructed to do so traffic jams
or stuck vehicles could endanger lives during an emergency.

Open Fire Performance for Opening Ceremony
Calling all Fire Performers! How would you like to welcome everyone home to Apogaea with a bang? Well you are in luck!
We would like to invite you to particpate in the Opening Ceremony! The Opening Cermony will be an open forum to ALL
perfomers in the Community who have checked into Fire Convergence and taken a required Safety Class (offered at
Convergence at 5PMevery day). So keep in mind, if you wish to particpate you MUST attend the Safety Class on
Wednesday. The Opening Ceremony will be at Dark Thirty (circa 9 PM). If you would like to perform please meet at Fire
Convergence no later than 8:30 and we will get started! Love and Light!
How to approach a Sick Apogaean Patient

Vaccinations. Alcohol does not cause autism (neither do real vaccines, so STFU), and it can be used to kill
pathogenic organisms. Tequila and whiskey are particularly effective germicidal agents. Tell your naughty nurse
if you need to be vaccinated with alcohol. Must be taken orally.
Tick checks. They can be anywhere on your body. Please allow us to look.
Mouth to Mouth Aid. You appear short of breath. Perhaps you require more oxygen. I can assist you with that.
Complete physical exams and cardiovascular testing. These may be conducted at a later time, but only if you
schedule a mutually consensual appointment with one of the nurses.

Art Installations
Alchemical Elevation Alchemical Elevation will consist of 4, 8' tall purple and white podiums, decorated with alchemical symbols, and topped with 6' heliumfilled weather
balloons. The balloons will be tethered to the tastefully backlit podiums with powered 2000lb winches for safety and elevation control. The 4
podiums will each have one of the symbols of the four elements painted on them, and will each contain a wireless LED light that will cause the
balloons to glow brightly throughout the night. The LED lights will react to the music of Panopolis, beckoning travelers from near and far to this
metropolis of low frequency sound.
Altar of Prometheus "Flashing fire, source of all arts, he, Prometheus, has purloined and bestowed upon mortal creatures. Such is his offence; for this he is bound to
make requital to the gods."
Come pay your respects to Prometheus, and take advantage of his gift.
ApoTucky Derby What is ApoTucky Derby: It's an all ages daytime interactive art project bringing all of the fun, excitement, competition and pageantry of the Kentucky
Derby to Apogaea — BURNER style. We have 3 mighty steeds that are springloaded and propelled forward when a rider posts. This year at Apo,
you get to be a jockey and compete for the Rose Blanket!
The track will be open • Wednesday: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. • Thursday: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., and 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. • Friday: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., and 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
June 8th (Saturday) 1:00pm we will be hosting “The Kentucky Derby Race”. You can be one of 9 Apo participants who will compete for the Rose
Blanket, as the crowd cheers you on, drinks Mint Juleps and don their big ass Derby hats.
How does one become a jockey for The Big Kentucky Derby Race on Sat? ALL Apogaea participants are eligible to be a Kentucky Derby Jockey.
Each day of Apogaea, the racetrack will be open for timed trials. The 9 top fasted riders are eligible to be a jockey during “The Kentucky Derby Race”
on Saturday.
OnSite Gambling at ApoTucky Derby: Winner Takes All! Each day of Apogaea our gambling table will be open for betting. This is a dice game
played with 4 to 6 players. Everyone places a bet (a gift, schwag, stickers, you name it) on the table. Players roll the dice for their Post (1 through 6)
Highest role gets first choice of placement on the board. Then players roll the dice to advance their horse forward or sidetoside (not diagonally).
The first player across the finish wins... it all.
Arbor Borealis 2.0 Arbor Borealis is back and 20% bigger. It is a volumetric light sculpture nestled within its wooded surroundings. With carefully hidden microphones,
we will capture the sound of any passersby. Custom audioreactive software will interpret the audio in waves of dynamic color, playing out 3D
visualizations in space. Spheres, waves, and other signals will be visually transmitted in the grid. Even when the installation isn’t reacting to user
sound input, it will play ambient patterns originating from modulation wave generation.
Blackout Bar We're here to help you get you on your way into the darkness. Only open for a short time sometime between midnight and 4am when the light is on.
The Blossom Effigy Returning this year as our effigy is "Blossom", built by Somer Andom and her crew last year. Even if there is a fire ban, we hope that "Blossom" will
inspire further blossoming at and beyond Apogaea. Lovingly crafted using modern CNC tools and an Open Source tool chain with the help from many
friends, it blooms brightest at night. Impromptu flame effects may occur on weekday nights if there are no burn bans.
Burn Your Brain Explore this giant playa brain by walking underneath it. Many hidden interactive elements are hidden within the brain lobe walls. Can you find them all?
Café L'anus at the ASS Taint Where ignorant Americans will be completely, utterly ignored. If you're lucky and we can understand what you're blathering on about, you might be
rewarded with our "fessées du jour."
Because everything sounds better in French and we don't give a fuck...
The Camp Wardrobe MalFUNKtion KumForIt Stayshun Camp Wardrobe MalFUNKtion presents the “Breast Little Scorehouse at Apo” ~~ Kum over and get on down to see our array of potions and notions
to: 1) Make you smell pretty (perfumes), 2) Get you to feel all sensual (scented oil for your “boyl” or “goyl”, lubes for your pubes and wipes for your
pipes), 3) Have you tasting as sweet as suckable with our sugar sticks (gum and lollipops); and, very importantly 4) Help you to be safe (condoms

Dinos for Life For sometime now, it has been publicly known that I love dinosaurs, and over the last few years my dinosaur collection has grown to be quite the
spectacle. So in creating Dinos for Life, I not only want to bring my entire dinosaur collection to share with the community but also offer a space
where people can come and share their dinosaur costumes, art, food, experiences, or any kind of love for the Jurassic era.
DiscoCorn Once thought to only exist in the imaginations of young girls and certain swingers clubs...real unicorns have been sighted at Apogaea. Come ride on
the unicorn of your dreams by the Fucking Unicorn Camp. She's easy to look at, easy to mount, and easy to love. Discocorn is a true sparklepony
without all the high maintenance ...and boy does she sparkle. This will be the ultimate Sparkle Pony! ** Like most sparkle ponies this one is DTF but
please treat her gentle as she also doubles as a piece of art**
Dr. Paracelsus's "Mystical Invocation" This is an interactive art installation of light 100 ft by 50 ft, so it will only work at night. Please come and use your mystical powers to transform the
ancient symbols of alchemy.
Dr. Paracelsus is considered "Prince of the Alchemists" and was the first person to write about gnomes. The giant symbol in the installation is the
alchemists' sign of the gnome. Gnomes are the ones with the power knowledge of the Earth. As such, ancient mystics and alchemists called upon
Gnomes as an invocation of the embodiment of Earth. They are not without their wiles. They are dastardly in conniving tricks on those who would
fool with their "Mother Nature”.
Eye of Solaris The Eye of Solaris uses the solar energy of nuclear fission focused through a water lens to make fire, pop popcorn, burn offerings, create wood
burnt art, heat stones, melt pennies, warm water, make grilled cheese and bacon, and generally amaze people.
Bring things to burn, melt, or otherwise destroy/create with heat. This interaction will be open 102 each day, weather permitting.
The structure is decorated with fire and water themed accoutrements and colors, and provides some shade on two sides.
Grumpolith Lost your favorite boots? Sick of all the dubstep? Ran out of bacon?? Come visit the Grumpolith, a place to relax, unwind, and degrump. Brought to
you by 2 Girls 1 Camp, the Grumpolith will serve as an altar to set your inner Grump free. Check out our events!
Han Gin Hangout The Han Gin Hangout is a giant oriental style lantern with room for two, a room with a view. Climb on in for a little above ground contemplation,
Hidden Retreat Hidden Retreat is a quiet place to get away from the techno music, wild parties and craziness of the rest of Apogaea. Comfy blankets and pillows
beckoning you to take off your shoes, sit down, relax and breathe. Lie down under the trees and look overhead. There, beautiful fabrics, garlands,
crystals and wind chimes floating from trees will entertain your eyes and ears (if you aren't napping already). At night the trees and ground are lit up
with soft lights. This will be a secret space to nap, relax, journal, create, have conversations, do yoga, meditate, or hold a ceremony.
Hug Bistro Your friendly Burn Family, one stop, hug shop and Bistro! Give hugs (and other menu items), receive hugs, and most importantly, get to know your
Apogaean community.
IllumAnemone This installation is a luminous jellyfish tree growing out of the ground. By night it’s pulses and ripples with juicy light across and down it’s toroidal
skeletal structure then the light cascades down into it’s tendrils creating a fully immersive experience when you step inside the jelly's belly.
Lady Baby Cave The lady baby cave which is 98% made out of plastic bags! Please feel free to come in and play on the hammock, meditate on a pouf, interact with a
stalactite, or create in the glowing sand. We also are bringing the bus and will be serving up some scrumptious snacks and drinks!
Laughs at Your Back Inspired years ago from a conversation with beloved Maquette, more than 20 whimsical pillows capture the individual and distinctive laughs of Apo
community members in pressactivated sound boxes. Fall into the pile of pillows and experience the alchemy of spirit through laughter and comfort.

People Catcher Come hang out in a giant, interactive dream catcher!
The People Catcher is a 15foot dream catcher suspended from the trees a 45 degree angle. And? And it's YOUR job to climb, play, and experience

The Psychedelic Sister Dome The Psychedelic Siblings present: The Psychedelic Sister Dome a sacred space for both sexes to explore and embrace the divine feminine. Come by
anytime to chill and connect with the inner Goddess. Shrine offerings encouraged.
the Small World Turtle My project is a smallish sculpture of a turtle carrying a bowl on his back. In the bowl is a pond with a central island. On the island, a bonsai tree.
The turtle itself stands on a stump of a larger tree. The whole sculpture will be made out of sculpey and scrap. It is an illustration of the world turtle
concept, tweaked, and made to stand for our modern world. There are a number of worlds encapsulated by the sculpture. There is the turtle living
in our world, on his back a small ecosystem of plants growing out of his shell surrounding the china bowl.
SoundPuddle The SoundPuddle is an interactive space of visualacoustic synesthesia. This spectrographically colorful dome illuminates sound on an immersive
canopy of light. Visualize the spectral shapes of soundspace with any noise you can make. You will laugh, shout, and sing as thousands of solar
powered LEDs unify your ears and eyes
The Story Portal We are unveiling our giant, handcrank story wheel and 40foot steampunk stage, just so you can fall into The Story Portal and get swept away! Our
huge stage and dramatic set up provides the setting for YOU to tell real stories about your life. Our setup is simple: spin the wheel and tell a story
about the topic the wheel shows you. Stories have myriad purposes: to heal, to entertain, to help us make sense of our own experience, to educate
others, and to join us together. Come experience this fundamental human ritual.
String Theory Dome: Alchemist Den String Theory Dome: Alchemist Den will transmute your thoughts on string art with threads that pop, change color, and flow all around you.
The Sukha Dome (of) Kalyana Mittata The Sukha Dome (of) Kalyana Mittata "The Bliss of Spiritual Friendship"
Housing the "Laughs at Your Back" project, the Sukha Dome is a 19' white "star" dome where you can come celebrate and contemplate the meaning
of Friendship and Community. Contribute to the Friendship Altar (with pictures, poems, mementos) in honor of your friends, make a friendship
bracelet, relax and laugh with the pillows, and decorate the dome itself to express what friendship and community mean to you. Open 24hrs during
the event, located near the Fucking Unicorns.
Temple of Transubstantiation The Temple offers itself as the spiritual center of Apogaea. It is a place for reflection, meditation, grieving, commemorating those who have passed,
honoring those who have contributed to our lives, forgiveness of self and others, and celebration of the future. Through the alchemy of private ritual
in a community space, the Temple offers the possibility of closure and of moving on afresh, the transubstantiation of old energies into new!
Unicorn Playhouse! Come free your inner child at the Unicorn Playhouse!
Climb, swing, dance, lounge, hide, seek and show off for that girl you like on our multilevel play structure for big kids! Come learn new skills from our
talented aerialists and climbers, and challenge your fear/ love of heights on this expansive rainbowcolored house of play! Enjoy the warm glow of
pretty lights at night, or relax in the shade on the hammocks during the day. Choose your own adventure. Radical Play with Unicorns is the new
sitincampchairsandgetdrunk!
VagaLumes, the wandering lights This project is meant primarily as an evening art installation. It consists of 75 fireflies constructed out of recycled, and scrap material wired with
blinking LED's. The fireflies will be best viewed from the comfort of the covered swing provided along with the installation. The fireflies will hang
from the trees as well as be captured in large jars. They are incredibly interesting to look at as they are all individual and unique sculptures. Their
lights will all be timed to blink intermittently capturing the essence and feeling of true caffeinated fireflies. Every evening at dusk (or until we run out
of fireflies) we will host firefly happy hour where participants will be encouraged to adopt a firefly and modify/ take it with them.

Theme/Sound Camps
A Mother's Love A Mother's Love is a journey to a simpler time, where people can relive the best of childhood through the most basic, yet profound, of pleasures,
tasty homemade cookies and ice cold milk provided by a loving hand.
Participants will be able to come to the Cookies n' Milk serving area and select from several kinds of delicious cookies including sugar free and gluten
free options. They will also have multiple types of milk to choose from, including several nondairy options.
Motherly Advice will be provided at no additional charge.
Burn Your Brain Camp Come to discuss and learn about how the brain works with the artists of the Burn Your Brain project.
The Cabana Club @ Apogaea Welcome to The Cabana Club at Apogaea. Your tropical oasis in the Rocky Mountains! Open from 36 PM every afternoon WedSat serving up beats,

Princess Stephanie's "Burn Unit" for the ultimate fashion experience! We encourage everyone to visit our skilled wardrobe engineers for an
innovative and creative new look, and then take a saunter down our runway. Decided on jeans and a tshirt for the weekend? Careful! You might get
BUSTED by our fashion police intent on preventing fashion emergencies. Citation recipients will be taken into custody for fashion makeovers. Careful,
they have fuzzy handcuffs and bootywhackers! CWMF is ALWAYS looking for costumes and clothing to share with the Apogaea community. Please

enough meh. to add some in and to reduce meh. in other areas as necessary.

Department of Sparks & Wrekcreation The Dept of Sparks and Wreckreation provides public services to the citizens of Apogaea by comically and lightheartedly citing and reprimanding
groups and individuals based off a variety of prohibited (or encouraged) behaviors. The citations become invitations to one’s “sentencing” which
takes place at night around the fire table or burn barrel, or during an afternoon session of Radical Dehydration.
ERUPTION: The Second Cumming Emerging from the hills a volcano is growing. The surrounding energetic beats are thumping and pounding to growing crescendos. Fire explodes from

EXS My vision is simple: blend improvised sound sculpture with music to create a sonic environment that both soothes and challenges. From beginning to
end, I never know what's going to come out o the speakers. My setup is simple: a pair of powered monitors, a laptop, an audio interface and a 25
key midi controllerI can set up virtually anywhere. I don't have a stunning visual displayits just me and my gear, but I play as long as my body will
allow and foist my noise day or night. The shifts in mood my sounds instigate should catch the listener off guard. The question in their mind should
be, "What's going to happen next?". They should leave my performance with my sounds imprinted on their brain. The most unique aspect of my
performances is I encourage my audience to play my instrument.
Fucking Unicorn Camp It's time to get your horny on with The Fucking Unicorns! The performancebased theme camp is ready to turn your daytime into playtime and your
nighttime into brighttime. The Imagination Machine will be glowing in full rainbow glory, and the beats will be flowing from your favorite DJs and
musicians. The Circus of Illumination will be sure to satisfy all your carnal, carny needs and you too can dangle and dazzle as you learn from the
stars at aerial and acro workshops. Other camp features include: the 16 foot Unicorn Clubhouse climbing structure and the loveable, ridable
Discocorn. Come play with us!
Glamp Camp Glamorous Camping With a Twist of Tramp.
Come hang out in our bedazzled but trampy culdesac of vintage trailers and fabric bungalos. We offer the creature comforts of home and invite you
into our living rooms and fabulously fenced in front yards. We are ready to entertain passing Apogaea travelers with a Skol Cosmipolitan or a
Beefeater Dry Martini. Escape from the thump thump and come play a game of Putt Putt Golf. Our miniature golf course is out of this world and just
might make you shake your booty or whisk you away to the tropics. Choose your very own one of a kind dazzling designer golf club and blinged out
ball.Don’t let our manicured lawns fool you. We can tramp it up with the trampiest. Just join us out back on our Trampoline. Seize the opportunity for a

GnomeMan's Land GNOMEMAN'S LAND We invite you to submerge your senses in a land in which only ancient alchemists dare to wander. Once upon a time the
gnome was the mystical being known only to the alchemists, discovered by Dr. Paracelsus who knew them as indispensable companions for any
fantastical journey. Here in GNOMEMAN’S LAND we return the gnomes to their proper place as worshipped by all those seeking to turn dull metal
into sparkly gold. We will be spinning beats and pouring drinks for all those who wish to venture into the depths of gnome wisdom, curiosity and
shenanigans.
HATEbar Do you enjoy hugs and glitter? Then go fuck yourself, cuz HATEbar is not for you. Your bartenders will do their best to insult you personally and with
style. Nothing is sacred your bartender (who is much better looking and less smelly than you) will do their best to make you cry and then give you
shitty whiskey while we get the good stuff. Want a beer instead? Fine, you pussy, but it'll be shaken, not stirred. We are the antihippy, a haven from
techno, and more fun than your shitty camp.
Just the Tip... Just the Tip… is a place of acceptance and inclusion for all horny creatures. This theme camp and bar will be serving alcoholic refreshments and
providing a place to play. Stop on by for a drink. Hang around in our Narwhal dome or just chill out in the belly of the Narwhal.
Just Waiting on Ewe Bring your camp chairs, pillows, playa fur and come watch a movie ( or just your favorite part) every night. Starting at Dusk and running until early

The Imagination Machine Did someone say double rainbow all the way? Catch a ride on the Imagination Machine...a huge rainbow with 7,000 programmable LEDs, a mobile
aerial rig, glowing clouds and a spacious raised dance platform. You will also find her illuminating the Fucking Unicorn Camp where you can dance

The Bureau of Apogaea Medicine & Fire (BAMF) is taking a more proactive role at Apogaea this year. During my tenure as medical lead, it has come
to my attention that many Burners are not properly vaccinated against common pathogens, are unaware of the dangers posed by deer ticks (a
parasitic insect native to Colorado), and in general, operate on very little sleep, a lot of bacon, and sex. The Naughty Nurse Rampage will meet at
BAMF Bar at 13:00 hours, on Saturday, June 8th, and conduct a 34 hour campaign for better health practices across Apogaea. Anyone interested
in Apogaea public health is welcome to join us. Please come wearing a nursing uniform (or your favorite onesie, weirdo), bring an item for
dispensing alcohol (needleless syringe or water pistol), and your favorite antimicrobial cocktail for vaccinating the unwashed public. Also, gloves,
because you will definitely get sticky.

Come join us for the big burn night ceremony on Saturday at 9pm around the Blossom Effigy. We hope to blow your mind with amazing live music and
fire and dance performances featuring ACon (Apogaea Conclave). ACon has spent the past 6 months developing, coordinating, practicing a full 40
minute performance. The performance will be followed by the burning of the effigy. You don't want to miss this!

70s, 80s, and 90s punk tunes, offering Elmer's glue mohawks, and koolaid dyed hair. No, its not permanent, but it IS delicious. As always, only stupid
