Nomenclature Tube Cutters Most Parker Tube Fabricating Tools carry simple 3-, 4- or 6digit part numbers. In some cases part numbers for accessories are constructed from numbers which, where applicable, identify the size or sizes of tubing they are intended to handle. Size number may either precede or follow basic part number. In other cases (as for sealers and lubricants) simple identification by name is used. Our hand tube cutters are designed to make uniform clean square cuts easier and with the least possible burrs. Use builtin deburring blade on each cutter, or the In-Ex deburring tool to remove any burrs that appear. Tube Benders Example Parker hand benders include built-in features to help you make accurate bends without kinks or wrinkles and with minimum flattening in tubing, from size 2 (1/8" O.D.) to 16 (1" O.D.). Parker’s larger benders include manual and hydraulic models, to meet any operating need for production or maintenance in the shop or in the field. Accessories are available to handle bends in a variety of tubing material from size 4 (1/4" O.D.) to size 32 (2" O.D.) and 1/2" through 2" IPS. 1. Brazing Equipment Sizes Sizes vary from 2 through 32. (Sizes are determined by the number of sixteenths of an inch on the O.D. of the tubing being fabricated.) You’ll find them all in the equipment featured here — from improve- Parker Ferulok fittings can be assembled more readily by using either the Ferulset hand pre-setter, the hydraulic powered Hyferset or the Hydra-Tool. All three assembly tools ensure strong, reliable ferrule pre-sets on the tubing. Tube Preparation Centers Parker offers two types of Tube Preparation Centers: the TP432 and the TP1025. Both are designed for preparation required of tube ends to be completed in one location. The TP432 performs four separate operations: cutting, deburring, flaring for Triple-Lok fittings and ferrule pre-setting for Ferulok fittings. Four operations can also be performed by the TP1025: cutting, deburring, flanging for Seal-Lok fittings and flaring for Triple-Lok fittings. Both feature a hardened and burnished tool-steel cutting wheel, flare cut-off grooves in rollers for removal of old flares and a swing-away reamer for removing internal burrs. Handle feeds and adjusts cutting wheel to uniformly cut tubing as the cutter is rotated. NOTE: Tube cutters are not recommended for use with stainless steel tubing because of the work hardening effect. The use of a hacksaw with a “Tru-Kut” Sawing Vise or a rotary teeth saw is recommended for stainless steel. The saw will assure a square cut on the tubing with minimum burrs. The saw will cut 1/4" through 2-3/4" copper, brass, aluminum, steel and stainless steel tubing. An adequate supply of cutting fluid is provided by an internal recirculating pump. The unit is designed for bench or stand mounting and operates on 110V, 15 amp power supply. Individual sizes in seven models from size -2 (1/8" O.D.) to -16 (1" O.D.) and 5mm to 25mm are available. Medium Duty Inch and Metric Hand Tube Benders Base Part No. 2829 Designed and built for fast, accurate bends and long service life. These are individual benders for eight inch tube sizes (1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2" 5/8", 3/4") and six metric sizes (5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 14mm). Will bend copper, aluminum, annealed steel and stainless steel. Can be used in hands or mounted in a bench vise. Simply align marks on slide block and radius block then bend to desired angle (up to 180°) by pulling steadily on slide block handle. Angles are indicated on radius block, both front and back. Mounts easily to a work bench or table. Fig. N12 — BAV06/12KPLX Ratchet Hand Tube Benders These are individual benders for three tube sizes, 5/8, 3/4 and 7/8 inches, in copper, aluminum, annealed steel and stainless steel. They can be used in hands or mounted in a bench vise. Position tube in bender, close latch and pull ratchet handle away from radius block handle until desired angle (up to 180°) is formed. Two models are available to bend tube sizes 4 (1/4") through 24 (1 1/2"). Exactol benders are designed with a worm-gear drive with a 60 to 1 gear ratio to allow accurate bending with minimum effort. They bend aluminum, copper, annealed steel and annealed stainless steel without kinks or wrinkles. Easy crank operation permits continuous production without excessive operator fatigue; for use in tube fabrication shops, in the field, or in factory maintenance departments. A VHS video is included to provide proper instructions for use. See page N12 for wall thickness capabilities. The radius block, around which the tube is bent, is driven by a roller chain and sprocket powered by a cylinder and a separate hydraulic power unit. Maximum bend angle is 180° with radii from 1 1/4" to 8". Close second bends can be performed in either direction. An adjustable stop controls the degree of bend to a maximum of 180° and is graduated in 1° increments. After the bend is completed and pressure is released, a spring returns the clamp arm to the zero starting position. Ferulset provides a fast and easy way to manually pre-set the ferrule onto the tube with the famous Ferulok “bite.” Ferulset bodies are manufactured from hardened steel for withstanding repeated pre-sets. A separate tool is required for each size tube; size 2 (1/8" O.D.) through size 32 (2" O.D.). Fig. N96 — Ferulset® HOW TO USE: Lubricate threads on tool, threads on nut, as well as tail and lead ends of ferrule with a suitable lubricant such as STP. Insert tube end with ferrule into tool until it bottoms against shoulder and thread the nut down until finger tight. Light wrenching may be required to get to a consistent starting position, especially with larger sizes. Hold tubing steady against internal shoulder and tighten nut 1-3/4 turns. This task is made easy through hydraulic power provided by a hand or electric pump. The equipment is portable and may be procured in a sturdy wood carrying case. In hydraulic pre-setting, little physical strength is required by the operator to set ferrules properly. Although the amount of force needed increases as the ferrule size increases, the pressure can be easily achieved. This tool accommodates pre-setting dies for tubes ranging in size from 4 through 32 (1/4" through 2" outside diameter) and 6mm to 28mm O.D. metric sizes. The tube, with tube nut and ferrule, is positioned in the die. The hydraulic “push” of the Hyferset pre-sets the ferrule onto the tube — producing a visible ridge of metal, in front of the sleeve bite edge, that can be easily inspected. Fig. N99 — Hyferset Positive Stop Body Dies The positive stop body die design eliminates the need for predetermined relief valve settings, pressure gauges or chart reading. Positive stop feature allows for uniform assemblies to be made on tubing from 1/4" thru 2". One set of dies can be used on steel, stainless and monel tubing. When used in conjunction with the Ferulok visible bite ferrules, the entire system is the most reliable method available for assembling a fitting to a piece of tubing. It allows all the preparation required for the tube (cutting, deburring, flaring and ferrule pre-setting) to be carried out in one location. Each function can be operated independently. A rotary cut-off saw with a toothed saw blade allows tubes to be cut off quickly and squarely with minimum burrs. The tube is held securely by a vise. An adequate supply of cutting fluid is provided by an internal recirculating pump. The flaring and pre-setting unit is controlled with a pressure switch. The operator pre-sets the recommended pressure on the gauge and when the flaring/pre-setting unit reaches the pressure, the unit automatically shuts off. There is no need to watch the pressure gauge once the pressure is pre-set. This produces consistently good flares and presets. An emergency stop button is located on the top of the pressure gauge housing. It allows all functions of the machine to be stopped if a problem occurs on any one of the four operations. Flaring and pre-setting tools can be stored on shelves inside the cabinet. The TP432 is equipped with swivel and locking casters and approximately 20' of electrical cord. It allows all the preparation required for the tube (cutting, deburring, flaring and flanging) to be carried out in one location. Each function can be operated independently. A rotary cut-off saw with a toothed saw blade allows tubes to be cut off quickly and squarely with minimum burrs. The tube is held securely by a vise. An adequate supply of cutting fluid is provided by an internal recirculating pump. An emergency stop button is located on the control panel. It allows all functions of the machine to be stopped if a problem occurs on any one of the operations. Flaring and flanging tools can be stored on shelves inside the cabinet. Machining ports to accept Parker tube fittings is completed in three simple steps. To begin, select the appropriate size port tooling for the fitting end in question. Next, follow these machining steps. 1. Pilot Hole Drilling. First, make a pilot hole for the couterbore by using a drill or bore size found in the couterbore tooling tables. Port Counterboring. Then, run the counterbore tool into the pilot diameter created in step 1. Thread Tapping. Lastly, the machined port must be threaded to accommodate the fitting. Use the appropriate Parker tapping tool or another tap intended for the same thread type, size, and class.
