Aptly named “American Country,” we developed this
collection to answer the many requests we’ve received
for character-rich, subtly scraped hardwood flooring
that’s made in America. Hand scraping is a technique that
customizes selected pieces of flooring, and is more labor
intensive to produce than smooth hardwood flooring styles.
With the rustic scraped look gaining popularity in the last
several years, imports entered the U.S. market at very
competitive prices. While we heard from many American
homeowners that they loved the look, they didn’t love that
the products weren’t made in the USA. We listened, and
have made a major investment in the tools, efficient
manufacturing techniques, and skilled craftspeople to
offer the look and value demanded by our customers,
all made by Somerset in the USA.

eased edges, but eased ends, as well (our standard

profile). We listened, and now you have the option
of solid flooring with a four-sided eased edge profile in

We employ a full-time forestry staff to sustainably

Our foresters create 100-year plans for the forest we

150-mile radius of our manufacturing facilities.
“Waste Not” Philosophy
Somerset has a “Waste Not” philosophy, which means
we use every part of the tree. Excess wood fiber
and sawdust generated through our manufacturing

of Somerset Wood Pellet bio fuel. This reduces our

“Engineered” Flooring Goes a Long Way
Somerset now manufactures 1/2” engineered flooring
in random lengths with a sawn face that duplicates
the look of a solid floor. So lumber that would be used to
produce one 3/4” solid piece of flooring produces four
or five face veneers for engineered flooring. It’s another
way we conserve our natural resources while allowing
customers to enjoy the beauty and benefits of real wood.

Somerset manufactures our collections from Appalachian
hardwood lumber. The natural conditions that create the
Appalachian Mountains’ magnificent scenery also produce

The thick solid top layer of our 1/2” engineered flooring
is identical in appearance to our solid flooring (actually cut

We Don’t Mix Red and White Oak
Red and white oak are both beautiful, durable
hardwoods, especially Appalachian oak. Both have
unique color variations and characteristics, and they
take stain differently. One of the main advantages of not
having species mixed within your floor is for better color
consistency now, and should you ever need or choose
to have your floor sanded and refinished in the future.
To give you the best looking, best performing oak
flooring, we do not mix the two species.

All Somerset flooring (both 3/4” solid and the face
layer of our engineered flooring) is manufactured from
Appalachian species of red oak, white oak, maple,
hickory, walnut, or American cherry. Some of the finest
lumber in the world comes from the Appalachian
Mountain region of the United States, where Somerset
is located. The lumber is considered superior because
of the benefits inherent in the location and the land.
The climate is a main factor in producing the naturally
superior quality—the area’s warm summers and cool
spring and fall seasons insure that the growth of the
trees is gradual. Slower growing trees results in tight
growth rings, consistent grains, and strong fibers that
lead to strength, durability, and beauty.
We Apply One of the Thickest Aluminum
Oxide Urethane Finishes on the Market
Somerset’s Ultimate™ Finish is an advanced UV-cured
formulation of aluminum oxide and urethane. Our
proprietary multi-step finishing process protects your
floor with a thick, durable shield that is resistant to wear
and provides exceptional gloss retention. In addition,
we implement a full fill face operation in our finishing
process. This important step seals the pores of the wood,
resulting in a smoother, more consistent surface onto
which we apply the remaining finish coats. The final
flooring has a durable easy-care finish that enhances
the natural beauty of the wood and is built for lasting
performance in your home. Depending on the Collection
you choose, Somerset flooring is available in low gloss,
satin, and high gloss finishes to give you the look you
want. We guarantee the finish will not wear through
for 50 years (25 years for Value and Southern Antiques
Collections).
Somerset’s Limited Warranty is one of the Strongest in
the Industry with a 50-Year Finish Wear Layer Warranty
We feel that no other hardwood flooring in the industry
is manufactured to higher quality standards than a
Somerset hardwood floor. All the flooring presented
in this brochure is backed by our Lifetime Structural
Warranty; in addition, our 50-Year Finish Wear Layer
Warranty provides assurance that the surface finish
layer will not wear through or separate from the
wood for 50 years from the original date of purchase

The patterns and color variations created in a
living tree are like all of nature—never repeated.
Naturally occurring wood characteristics such as
mineral streaks, knots, and variations in grain and
color, are not considered defects. Also, all hardwood
flooring will undergo color changes over time and
with exposure to light. As a result of these natural
characteristics, as well as the limitations of printing,
your newly installed Somerset floor will vary from
