Dear 2015 Graduates,
We join with your family, friends, and loved ones in celebrating your
accomplishments on this special day. We feel very fortunate that you have
shared these past few years with us as we have worked and learned together.
Your education and experiences at Goldey-Beacom College have prepared you
for a promising journey ahead. The College Community takes great pride in the
knowledge that you have acquired the skills, the values, and the desire to know
more that will assure your success in tomorrow’s world of work. The degree
awarded to you today signifies our confidence in your preparedness for
tomorrow.
Obviously your learning did not begin at Goldey-Beacom College, nor should it

Doctor of Business Administration
When Sam Calagione opened Dogfish Head in 1995, it was the smallest
commercial brewery in America, making only ten gallons of beer at a
time. Under his entrepreneurial guidance, Dogfish Head is now among the
fastest growing breweries in the nation. Dogfish Head is one of the first
American craft breweries to focus on culinary-inspired beer recipes outside
the traditional beer styles – proving his motto ―Off-centered ales for offcentered people.‖ Dogfish Head has grown into a 200 person company with
a restaurant, brewery, distillery, and hotel near the resorts in southern
Delaware. His brand is known world-wide, and is currently sold in 31 states.
Sam has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Brewers
Association, and is a five-time finalist for a James Beard Foundation Award.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Delaware Restaurant
Association, and Fast Company Magazine named Sam one of The 100 Most
Creative People in Business in 2011. In 2014, he received the Spirit of
Enterprise Award at Arizona State University. He hosted Discovery
Channel‘s ―Brew Masters‖ series looking at beer production world-wide. He
was chosen ―Business Man of the Year‖ by the Small Business Association,
and named the ―Game Changer for 2010‖ by Huffington Post. He is the
author of Brewing up a Business and Extreme Brewing, and co-authored He
Said Beer, She Said Wine. Deeply committed to the community, Dogfish
has raised over $275,000 for the Nature Conservancy and helped the
causes of over 150 non-profit organizations.
A 1992 graduate of
Muhlenberg College, he lives in beautiful Lewes, Delaware, with his wife and
Dogfish Vice President Mariah and their two children, Sammy and Grier.

When Sam Calagione opened Dogfish Head in 1995, it was the smallest
commercial brewery in America, making only ten gallons of beer at a
time. Under his entrepreneurial guidance, Dogfish Head is now among the
fastest growing breweries in the nation. Dogfish Head is one of the first
American craft breweries to focus on culinary-inspired beer recipes outside
the traditional beer styles – proving his motto ―Off-centered ales for offcentered people.‖ Dogfish Head has grown into a 200 person company with
a restaurant, brewery, distillery, and hotel near the resorts in southern
Delaware. His brand is known world-wide, and is currently sold in 31 states.
Sam has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Brewers
Association, and is a five-time finalist for a James Beard Foundation Award.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Delaware Restaurant
Association, and Fast Company Magazine named Sam one of The 100 Most
Creative People in Business in 2011. In 2014, he received the Spirit of
Enterprise Award at Arizona State University. He hosted Discovery
Channel‘s ―Brew Masters‖ series looking at beer production world-wide. He
was chosen ―Business Man of the Year‖ by the Small Business Association,
and named the ―Game Changer for 2010‖ by Huffington Post. He is the
author of Brewing up a Business and Extreme Brewing, and co-authored He
Said Beer, She Said Wine. Deeply committed to the community, Dogfish
has raised over $275,000 for the Nature Conservancy and helped the
causes of over 150 non-profit organizations.
A 1992 graduate of
Muhlenberg College, he lives in beautiful Lewes, Delaware, with his wife and
Dogfish Vice President Mariah and their two children, Sammy and Grier.
