Window Cleaning and Care As we move out of summer and into cooler weather, here is some information that will be useful in the operation and maintenance of the windows in your Del Webb home. Use a standard glass cleaner to clean all glass. We do not recommend the use of razor blades for cleaning glass surfaces, since there is the risk of injury and possible damage to the window itself. We also do not recommend using power washers, as they may cause water penetration inside the house. Keep the tracks clean on all slide-by window units, especially the sliding doors in your home. This will help to eliminate the clogging of the weep systems that are critical in the operation of the window during a rain. Note: It is normal for a heavy rain to fill the tracks of a window. However, if water overflows the track assembly, then a good cleaning of the weep hole system is required. This is considered homeowner maintenance. To keep your sash easy to move, lubricate the track with a silicone spray. Do not use WD40 for window tracks, as it leaves a residue that may collect dust and other materials that can make window operation more difficult. If you suspect a draft, reopen the window, then lightly push outward while closing the window. This will force the interlock to seal properly. Some air infiltration around windows is normal, especially during high winds. If you are having difficulty locking a window, reopen the window, then lightly push outward while closing the window. This will help align the locks and subsequently make it easier to latch. If you suspect a seal failure (fog between the panes) check for moisture on both the inside and the outside of the glass by wiping your finger across the glass, before calling for service.
