classics style never go out of J A Note to Our Readers What is a classic? Something that’s timeless and doesn’t go in and out of fashion, whether with the change of seasons or of decades. That’s the case with every one of our books, from Adam Bede to Young Lonigan and the more than three hundred titles in between. But let me mention a few must-haves in particular. For style that is literally classical, we offer new editions of The Odyssey and The Iliad (with new Afterwords by Adam Nicolson), while for a more Edwardian feel, try The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad (with a new Afterword by Debra Romanick Baldwin). The French essentially invented fashion, of course, so you can feel confident picking up Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers (with a new Afterword by Marcelle Clements) or Moliere’s Tartuffe and Other Plays (with a new Afterword by Charles Newell). We don’t think anything can top the fashions of Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth (with a new Afterword by Michael Gorra), but if you’re going on vacation, you might want to pack Jules Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days (with a new Afterword by Karen J. Renner). And in this presidential election year, be sure to check out Plunkitt of Tammany Hall by William L. Riordan (with a new Afterword by Philip Freeman). Campaign shenanigans never go out of style, unfortunately! One thing is clear: you’ll always look great with a Signet Classic in your hand. It says to the world that you’re someone with impeccable taste!
