areas, skate park, mini-golf and
shuffleboard. Structures (tents,

Get a marriage license.
To obtain a marriage license in Mason
County, contact the following clerk’s
offce:

Requirements to obtain a marriage license:
• Men and women 18 years of age and older may contract marriage in Michigan without parental
consent.
• Persons 16 and 17 years of age may contract marriage in Michigan with written consent of both
parents or legal guardians, who must appear at the time of application.
• If one or both persons is a Michigan resident-apply in the county where either applicant lives. The
license is valid throughout the state.
• If both persons are out-of-state residents-they must apply in the county where the marriage will be
performed. The license is valid in that county only.
Fee per couple:
• $20.00 for Michigan residents; $30.00 for out-of-state resident. Check or money order should be
made payable to “County Clerk”.
Important Information:
• There is a 3-day waiting period before the license can be released. The County Clerk, for good and
sufficient cause shown, can waive this waiting period. There is a $10.00 Expedite Fee.
• The marriage must be solemnized within 33 days of application.
• The issued license may be picked up at the County Clerk’s office.
Witnesses:
• Two (2) witnesses are required. Both witnesses must be at least 18 years of age.
Persons able to perform ceremony:
• Marriages may be performed by federal, probate, district, and municipal judges, and district court
magistrates, in their court area; mayors, in their city; County clerks; ministers and pastors of the
gospel, both resident and non-resident.
