ASSEMBLY HALL
‘Wow’ is the word most often
used on seeing the Assembly
Hall for the first time. With
its sheer scale, Italian marble
panelled walls, Matcham style
balcony and fully sprung
maple floor, it epitomises the
Victorian grandeur and ‘faded
glory’ of the whole building.
Furthermore, as a dry hire
space the Assembly Hall is
surprisingly flexible, and for
a more contemporary feel
panels and cladding can easily
be added to create a slick,
modern blank canvas.

striking feature fireplace make
the Mayor’s Parlour a popular

COUNCIL CHAMBER
The original Victorian
Vestry Hall of the building,
this elegant room is the most
architecturally significant
space featuring an original
highly ornate moulded ceiling,
columns and stained glass
windows. With its beautiful
architecture and mellow lighting,
the Council Chamber is a
lovely space just as it is – but
responds particularly well to
creative lighting and dressing
– making it perfect for
everything from an intimate
reception or wedding
ceremony to corporate
entertainment.

BASEMENT
One of the real gems of
the Town Hall, the Basement
consists of a series of
interconnecting rooms mostly
left untouched and distressed,
with features such as fireplaces
and ranges. These create
a highly atmospheric
subterranean setting for
installations, exhibitions and
product launches. Benefiting
from its own ‘secret entrance’
off Old Street and street level
access to Rivington Place, the
Basement’s rambling charm
is guaranteed to surprise and
delight guests and visitors. The
area can operate as an entirely
independent space from the
main Town Hall above.
These three inter-connecting
spaces built in the early 1900s
boast high ceilings and plenty
of natural daylight. The large
committee room is beautifully
airy with large high windows
along its full length, and is the
most architecturally striking,
boasting matching Edwardian
fireplaces and an elegant
buttressed ceiling. Together
or separately thecommittee
rooms are ideal formeetings,
away-days and presentations
and are flexible enough
to respond to imaginative
dressing and lighting.
