80 Year History
Founded in 1931, AL-KO Kober has become a worldwide market
leader in the manufacture of axles, brakes, hubs, and drums, with
47 companies worldwide and over 25 million axles produced. AL-KO
launched U.S. operations in Elkhart, IN in 1983 and acquired Hayes
axle in 1996. Facilities in Oklahoma, Georgia and Oregon have been
added to establish a strong national manufacturing network. AL-KO
continues to be privately owned and is now led by the third generation
of the Kober family.

After serving the U.S. market for over 25 years AL-KO has seen
foreign competitors enter the market, but fully believes in domestic
manufacturing in order to provide the highest level of customer
satisfaction. AL-KO offers a full line of leaf and rubber torsion axle
products with a capacity range of 500 lbs to 25,000 lbs.

AL-KO heavy duty axles deliver
uncompromised quality, precision,
and performance – just what you would
expect from AL-KO. The axles are
double end friction welded to ensure
precise axle alignment and to produce
a spindle to tube connection stronger
than the base material. The end result
is a tougher, more durable axle able to
withstand the stress of today’s increasing
mileage and load requirements.
The AL-KO rubber suspension is unlike
any other, utilizing three rubber cords
and a hexagonal tube design. It offers
fast, easy installation; lowers the trailers
center of gravity for improved stability;
and optimizes shock absorption capability.
Available from 600-8000 pounds capacity
per axle, AL-KO rubber suspension axles
provide fully independent wheel
suspension; no metal to metal contact;
and no springs, shackles, hangers,
or U-bolts to break or wear out.
A complete range of leaf spring axles
rounds out AL-KO’s offerings. This

New brake has met all CSA* tests and standards for
approval as well as AL-KO’s more rigorous tests.
The 3.5K Advanced Design axle utilizes a newly
created 1.75" brake and 10" brake drum, making
it the latest example of innovation from AL-KO.

AL-KO ULTRULUBE is ideal for virtually all trailer
applications. It is available for both rubber suspension
and leaf spring axles from 600 lbs. to 8,000 lbs.
Proper and frequent maintenance is vital to bearing life. Now, AL-KO
ULTRULUBE allows you to completely repack inner and outer bearings
easily, without disassembly. There is no need to lift the trailer before
greasing axles equipped with ULTRULUBE.
SIMPLY
• Remove the rubber plug from the grease cap.
• Insert grease gun on the zerk.
• Pump until new grease begins to appear.
• Use an NLGI Grade 2 lithium complex, grease
with a minimum dropping point of 440˚F.
• Replace rubber plug.
• Hubs and components should also be
disassembled yearly and inspected for
worn and otherwise damaged parts.

the AG and Industrial markets superior magnet wire protection.

AL-KO Rubber Suspension
The Quadraflex rubber torsion axle combines a smooth
riding suspension system with a durable, long lasting
axle. Four specially designed rubber cords cushion a high
strength inner metal bar within the square outer tube. The
Q-flex axle is designed to provide a superior ride to the
conventional leaf spring suspension while removing the
need to replace any wearing parts.
The unique AL-KO hexagonal design consists of three
specially designed rubber cords on each side of the
axle. They are encased under pressure between the
hexagonal shaped outer tube and a triangular shaped
inner tube. The AL-KO rubber torsion axle is like no
other; the hollow inner tube allows a brake wire to be
placed inside the axle tube for protection from road
debris and weathering.
The high quality, high strength Q-flex axle is easily
installed on trailer frames with four bolts. Once the Q-flex
axle is installed, it becomes an additional load carrying
cross-member of the trailer itself.

The S-10 & SF-10 axle utilize AL-KO’s patented hexagonal design.
This design consists of three rubber cords on each side of the axle
assembly which are encased under pressure between the hexagonal

The T-20 is a round tube axle for light duty applications, available as
a straight axle only. Popular applications are watercraft trailers, tent
campers, utility trailers, golf cart trailers and motorcycle trailers.

The T-52, T-60, T-70, D-52, D-60 and D-70 are medium duty axles for a multitude
of applications. Most often these axles are used for agriculture trailers, utility
trailers, RV trailers, horse / stock trailers or general purpose trailers.
• CSA approved 12" x 2" electric brakes with optional hydraulic drum
or disc brakes
• T-52, D-52, T-60 and D-60 are built with 3" axle tubing, while the
T-70 and D-70 axles utilize a 3" tube with .250" nominal wall thickness
• Available in straight or with 4" drop spindles
• N.A.W. pad (neutral axis weld) are standard on T-60, D-60, T-70

capable of handling the toughest of jobs without problem. They are available with
a straight spindle or the optional 4" drop spindle when needed. Every AL-KO axle
is designed, manufactured and tested to meet your specific application.

This "SMC" kit is used to convert a top mount spring axle to a bottom mount spring axle, or vice versa.
1.) Remove old U-bolts and discard.
2.) Adjust the spacer nuts to the same dimension from the bottom of the conversion pads and so
they are tight to the existing spring pad when installed over the axle.
3.) Re-assemble the new U-bolts and torque to 50 ft. lbs.
4.) Using an open end wrench, tighten the spacer nuts as tight as possible.
5.) Weld the new installed pad to the axle.
6.) If a shock absorber is used, the original tie plate may be used on one side of the spring with a new
tie plate on the opposite side. Make sure the U-bolts are long enough to include the extra tie plate.

1. Installation of this kit requires skilled
welding to attach upper shock mounting
bracket to the frame so that no damage is
done to the trailer frame.
2. Raise the trailer and support with lift stands
or jack stands of sufficient rated capacity.
DO NOT RELY ON JACKS ALONE TO
SUPPORT VEHICLE.
3. Removal of tires and wheel is optional but
generally beneficial to provide additional
work space. Remove U-bolt nuts and
existing tie plates so that the edge with
shock mounting hole is inboard from the
spring. Install the appropriate flat washer
over the U-bolts at the slotted holes.
(Note: it is recommended that new U-bolts
and U-bolt nuts be used. Not included in
kit.) Install U-bolt nuts and retorque to 45
to 60 lb.-ft. Install shock absorber in the
CUPPED RETAINING
WASHER
lower tie plate bracket as shown in figure 1.
Temporarily install top mounting bracket on
shock absorber as shown in figure 1.
4. Lower trailer back down onto tires and level
so that equalizer(s), if equipped, are parallel
to the trailer frame. With full load on the
springs, extend the shock absorber out 1/2
full stroke. Carefully, mark the location of
the upper bracket. Shock should be angled
between 50˚ to 60˚ from the trailer frame.
Remove upper bracket from shock absorber
and weld bracket securely in place at the
marks. (Note: Do not weld with shock
attached to bracket or rubber bushings
will burn.)
5. Reinstall shock in upper bracket after it has
cooled from welding. Do not over tighten
shock hex nuts and cause rubber to expand
beyond cupped retaining washers.

Rubber Torsion Suspension
The AL-KO rubber suspension axle utilizes three rubber cords
on each side of the axle assembly. They are encased under
pressure between a hexagonal outer tube and a triangular inner
tube. A trailing arm (must be mounted as shown) is welded to
each inner tube. As the axle operates, the arm swings up and
down, thus rolling the rubber (visit al-kousa.com for animation).

When used properly, the AL-KO rubber torsion suspension requires no maintenance and will provide years of reliable and
uninterrupted service.
Some rubber torsion axles may be welded to the frame. Axles mounted with bolts should be checked at least every 12,000 miles
or 12 months and the bolts torqued to proper values. Bolts may be located in the top or side of the axle mounting bracket (see below).

and inner steel sleeve.
FOR ANTI-HOP SUSPENSION – SPECIFY AL-KO AXLES!
AL-KO anti-hop suspension systems are available in tandem and tri-axle
models. The AL-KO anti-hop suspension system virtually eliminates front
axle hop during braking with light loads, while improving braking performance
and tire wear through reduced load transfer from front to rear axle during
braking. In addition, the anti-hop design eliminates the need for a front axle
resistor on tandem axle trailers equipped with electric brakes. AL-KO anti-hop
suspension systems feature rubber bushed pivot points that require no
lubrication and reduce road shock; a replaceable high strength steel wear
roller in suspension equalizer; full 2 1/2 inch wide slipper springs, 4, 5, and
6-leaf with rubber bushings at spring eyes; a steel wear block on rear hanger;
and anti-rotational washers to prevent loosening.
The AL-KO anti-hop system provides the ultimate suspension performance
and is standard with 10K, 12K, and 16K axle sizes.

OPTIONAL: SPECIFY WHEN ORDERING
The adjusters, nestled inside the spring pads, are installed when the axle is
built. On completion of a trailer, the builder need only check distances from the
hitch to reference points on the axle beam equidistant from the axle’s center
(see Figure 1). If these dimensions differ by more than 1/16 inch, adjustment
is necessary and may be accomplished as follows:
1) Slightly loosen the U-Bolt nuts on the axle end containing the adjuster.
Only one end of the axle is equipped with an adjuster.
2) Turn an adjusting nut clockwise or counterclockwise as necessary to
bring the axle into proper alignment (each adjuster provides one full inch
of travel).
3) Retorque the U-Bolt nuts to 120 ft. lbs. each to secure the axle.
4) On multiple axle trailers, the second and third axles may be similarly
aligned after checking distances between them and the previously
aligned lead axle (see Figure 1).

!
WARNING: Be sure to read and understand the following information
before installing wheels. Installation of wheels which are not compatible with the
axle assembly could result in wheel separation which can lead to property damage,
serious personal injury, or loss of life.
AL-KO Kober Corporation manufacture hubs and drums that are compatible with many wheels used
in the trailer industry that have matching bolt patterns. AL-KO does not manufacture wheels, nor do
they recommend a specific wheel for compatibility with the hubs and drums they manufacture. The
wheel manufacturer should be contacted for proof of compatibility before use.
Customers using wheels which have not been tested for compatibility must do so to insure they
are compatible with AL-KO hubs and drums. Elements of compatibility include but are not limited to:
• Diameter of the hub mounting surface.
• Stud length and diameter.
• Location and number of studs.
• Center hole diameter for the wheel.
• Wheel mounting offset from the rim center.
• Rated capacity of the wheel.
• Wheel fastener torque.
• Wheel nut size and shape.
• Impact of the use of any wheel accessories (such as decorative center caps)
that could affect the proper seating of the wheel to the hub surface.
A cornering fatigue test based on SAE J1095/SAE J267 and field tests are recommended for all
wheels and rims to be installed on AL-KO hubs and drums. These tests require special expertise
and equipment. Persons without such equipment should contact the wheel manufacturer to verify
that a wheel is compatible with the AL-KO hubs and drums. AL-KO Kober Corporation is not
responsible for wheels or rims that are installed on their hubs or drums.

AL-KO standard axles are built using a 4.88 diameter hub pilot for
flat face wheels. Wheels are attached with swiveling flange nuts,
supplied with the axles.
Optional hub wheel pilots available when requested:
4.75 diameter hub pilot, coined
• For coined in and out dual wheels, using a one piece flanged
wheel nut, stud piloted, typically used for replacement only.
• For single wheels using
1. 90 degree wheel nut.
2. Swiveling flange wheel nuts.
3. Tension ring and 90 degree wheel nuts.
• For dual flat face wheels using
4.75 diameter hub pilot, flat face
• For dual flat face wheels using
4.88 diameter hub pilot, flat face
• For dual flat face wheels, using a tension ring and 90 degree
wheel nuts.
Flat face wheel pilots must be the same pilot diameter as the hub
on which they are used.

2 Year Limited Warranty
AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION warrants to the original purchaser of a trailer, that all workmanship and materials utilized in the construction
of axles by AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION will be free from substantial defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years or
24,000 miles from the date of purchase of said product, with the following exception: In place of the two (2) years or 24.000 miles limited
warranty, rubber suspension axles manufactured by AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION exclusive of hubs, drums, brakes, bearings and seals are
warranted as provided herein for a period of five (5) years. AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION warrants to the original purchaser that the hubs,
drums, brakes, bearings and seals that are part of rubber suspension axles manufactured by AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION will be free from
substantial defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years or 24.000 miles from the date of purchase by the original purchaser.
Notwithstanding anything set forth herein, AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION makes no warranties whatsoever, whether implied or express,
including any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose as to said products. In addition thereto, the following
items are specifically excluded from coverage by the terms of Limited Warranty, to-wit: damage or defects which result from accident,
collision, abuse, normal wear and tear, neglect, improper maintenance, improper installation, alignment, improper wheel nut torque, hub
imbalance or any damage caused thereby, alteration, or overloading.
This warranty extends only to the original installation of AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION’s products and is not transferable to any other
parties. AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION does not assume responsibility for any promises, warranties, or representations beyond those
expressed in the written document.
AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION’s obligations and understandings in this warranty are limited to the repair or replacement, at its option,
of any defective products manufactured by AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION, and in no event shall AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION be liable
for any consequential, indirect, or incidental costs or damages, including loss of use or any other damages of any type arising out of such
defective parts or products.
Some states do not allow exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages or implied warranties. In addition you may have
other rights which vary from state to state. Any terms of this warranty which conflict with the laws of our state are deemed amended by
the law of your state.
In the event that you believe any product manufactured by AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION has a defect or malfunction
or failure to conform to this written warranty, you should contact AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION at its Elkhart address:

1. Contact the Elkhart location.
2. A “Returned Merchandise Authorization” (RMA) number will be assigned to you.
3. Return the product to AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION at the service location chosen by AL-KO, freight prepaid.
PLEASE RETURN ONLY THE DEFECTIVE PART OR PARTS AS SUCH DIRECTED WITH APPROPRIATE
PRECAUTIONS AGAINST DAMAGE.
4. Supply the following information with the returned merchandise:
(a) Name, address, and telephone number of the original purchaser of the product, and include the date of purchase
(b) Serial number or model or make of unit to which the axle is attached
(c) Serial number of the axle itself
AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION will replace or repair any defective products within a reasonable period of time and return them to you. If AL-KO
KOBER CORPORATION determines there is no failure to conform to this Limited Warranty, you will be notified to retrieve your product from the
service facility. AL-KO KOBER CORPORATION assumes no responsibility for merchandise not retrieved within thirty (30) days of notification to
the original purchaser or owner of the product.
This warranty has been drafted to comply with Federal legislation and rules promulgated by the Federal Trade Commission.
You have additional legal rights in addition to those set forth in this written Limited Warranty.
