Global, Collaborative + Unbiased Conservation On December 16, 2015, Project 0 and AEG are bringing together a unique gathering of music acts at Scala in London to kick off a global movement to restore the ocean. Project 0 has teamed with ocean conservation organizations around the world to make real, rapid change to ocean health. Proceeds from this show will fund three important conservation projects and kick off a broad range of activities around the planet. The world doesn't need more conformists. If you don't fit in, celebrate that, and then get ready to stand your ground. — Laird Hamilton Project 0 Ambassador What is ? Many conservation organizations have started great projects to protect the ocean. Project 0 wants to complete them. So we’re giving the support and funds necessary – not to start new projects – but to finish the job to complete existing ones. We are going for Zero Unprotected Zero Underfunded Zero Overfishing Zero Pollution Zero Excuses 09 Now All or or Never Nothing Projectzero.org Projectzero.org In or Out Projectzero.org What Does DISRUPT today's status-quo and create a global movement to ignite awareness, drive new behaviors and deliver large scale funding to complete projects around the world. Protect Increase Marine Protected Areas from a mere 2% today to 10% by 2020 and 20% by 2030. Sustain Fund the existing work of conservation partners worldwide to secure Marine Protected Areas in perpetuity. Measure Increase the Ocean Health Index score by 10 points in areas where we work, and 5 points globally over the next 10 years. The Project 0 Manifesto The ocean is in crisis. So many are trying to answer the call, starting countless projects and dedicating immeasurable effort to restore, to nurture, to protect. But too often the best of starts outgrow the resources available and never get finished. Well, we won’t stand for it. Not anymore. Not for a moment longer. We want to finish it all. Now. We are Project 0 and we’re giving the support and funds necessary, not to start new projects, but to complete existing ones. We are engaging the passion, the people and the organizations who started them, and giving them what’s needed to finish what they have started. We’re going for zero underfunded and unprotected, zero pollution, zero misuse or abuse, zero dead zones, zero “why does it matter?” or “I don’t know what to do,” and zero excuses. That’s what we want, that’s what we’ll do. But we can’t do it alone. Project Zero. Join the Movement. These healthy, intact ecosystems become even more important as the ocean is stressed by climate change and ocean acidification. 1,000% 446% 166% 28% 21% increase in biomass and populations density of heavily fished species average increase in biomass of animals and plants average increase in number of plants or animals average increase in body size of animals average increase in species density With well-designed and managed marine protected areas, and especially networks of such areas, we can boost the health of ecosystems – and the ocean overall. Source: The Science of Marine Reserves/Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO) Countless Started – Few Finished With a only 3% of the ocean under protection, the pressures of overfishing, habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, coastal development, and extraction are taking their toll. The future of Earths oceans rests firmly on securing Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) now. These MPAs replenish depleted fisheries and create healthy ecosystems that provide resilience to the global ocean. Today, there are hundreds of marine protected areas in various stages of completion. Project 0 has identified approximately 50 projects that it will provide funding to complete and make functional. Fully functional MPAs in the “right places” – places where conservation is most urgent and where the potential for their contribution, both for humans and wildlife, is highest – is the scientifically proven and credible path for regeneration and survival.
