Mission Inspires Generosity
Dan and Cindy Carwile are passionate about the Mission of St. Mary’s. Dan shares, “Cindy and I support
the faith-based Mission of St. Mary’s, its outreach initiatives in the community and service to the poor and
vulnerable, because it really resonates with us.” Dan has been a member of St. Mary’s Health Foundation’s
Board of Directors for eight years, serving as Vice Chairman the last three years. He also chaired the fundraising
campaign for a new Mobile Dental Clinic. Dan’s employer, Old National Bank, encourages his involvement in the
community, which Dan and Cindy credit for fueling his dedicated service to St. Mary’s.

They agree that St. Mary’s strengths run deep. For Dan, it’s the people. “I look at the Daughters of Charity and
the St. Mary’s Auxiliary as people who are very devoted to our Mission. The Daughters have devoted their
lives to service. It is very inspiring.” As a teacher in the EVSC, Cindy knows firsthand how important St. Mary’s
outreach programs are to the poor and vulnerable in our community. “The most vulnerable children and their
families receive services through St. Mary’s programs, such as the Mobile Dental Clinic, bicycle and helmet
safety education and car seat safety programs,” says Cindy.
Dan adds, “St. Mary’s has a powerful ministry that extends well beyond the walls of the hospital. We’re really proud to be associated with St. Mary’s.
Our community is a better place because of St. Mary’s.”
Growing to Better Serve Your Children
Growth. Expansion of services. Increasing access to care. These aren’t just buzz words. They
describe the efforts that are underway for St. Mary’s Center for Children. The Center, now in
its tenth year, serves thousands of pediatric patients each year and is looking to expand its
services to care for even more children.
Unique to our community, the Center serves children and families from around the world for
services such as our Pediatric Feeding Clinic, one of only three of its kind in the nation. Our
Resource Center, Pediatric Psychology Program and Pediatric Sub-specialty Clinic help children
achieve success and reach their individual milestones.
Plans are underway to expand our services. We are excited to involve you in these efforts.
Your gifts will grow our Center for Children, allowing us to reach more children and families,
including those who are most vulnerable.

Since 1872, St. Mary’s has been providing high quality and compassionate healthcare to all, with special attention
to the poor and vulnerable. But, we have not taken this journey alone. It is only through trusted partnerships and
your generous support that we are able to ensure that this healthcare ministry reaches every person in need.
I love this quote from author Miya Yamanouchi: “We can all make a difference in the lives of others in need,
because it is the most simple of gestures that make the most significant of differences.” Each of you has made a
significant difference in the lives of others in need.
In this year’s Annual Report, you will read about the significant difference you made through the construction
of a new Prayer Garden, the purchase of a new Mobile Dental Clinic, enhancements to St. Mary’s Chapel, the
purchase of needed hospital equipment and helping families in need.

In this new fiscal year, we will dedicate our efforts to expanding St. Mary’s Center for Children. We have many

outstanding services that we provide at the Center and have been privileged to serve more than 5,200 families
this past year. However, there continues to be a growing need in our community to expand pediatric neurology,
pulmonology, sleep and behavioral health services. As we move forward in the growth and expansion of our Center
for Children, we hope that you will again join us in making the most significant of differences in the lives of those we are privileged to serve.

Your Generosity in Action: Daughters of
Charity Prayer Garden Blessing
In 1872, the Daughters of Charity established
Evansville’s first hospital, St. Mary’s. The rest is history,
literally. More than 140 donors helped commemorate
the legacy of the Daughters of Charity by contributing
to the construction of a new Prayer Garden, located on
the campus of St. Mary’s Medical Center. Donor gifts
helped purchase bricks, benches, trees and a statue
of Mary to decorate the garden. More than $28,000
has been raised to date. A blessing and dedication
ceremony for the Prayer Garden took place on
August 3, 2015. In this photo from the ceremony,

St. Mary’s Associate Grateful for
Your Gifts
Tiffany Volk has been a St. Mary’s associate for five
years. She currently is employed as a unit assistant in
the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A few years
ago, her husband lost his job and was out of work for
several months. Their family of five was struggling to
pay for basic needs, such as groceries and utility bills.
The Associate Benevolence Fund, supported through
the Foundation’s Annual Campaign for Excellence,
helped Tiffany and her family by providing money
toward their utility bills and gift cards to the grocery
store. Without this assistance, their power would
have been disconnected.
Tiffany shares, “By donating to the Foundation’s
Annual Campaign for Excellence, you are helping your
fellow co-workers and their families in times of need.
You never plan for a financial crisis. I am so thankful
to all of the donors whose gifts helped my family and
me during our time of need.”

After 14 years and more than 35,000 children’s visits, a campaign to purchase a new St. Mary’s Mobile Dental Clinic
commenced in May 2014. Your response was overwhelming. More than $854,000 was raised in less than a year for a
new clinic (pictured above). The new “dentist office on wheels” will debut by the end of 2015. It will create smiles for an
estimated 6,000 children’s visits annually in six counties throughout Southwestern Indiana.

A sacred space for communal or private prayer,
St. Mary’s Chapel welcomes all who desire a place
for reflection, solace and thanksgiving. This past
year, several needs were identified for the Chapel
that would enhance the experience of our visitors.
These needs included a new audio system, as well as
altar cloths and linens. Thanks to generous donors
like you, the audio system has been purchased and
installed. We continue to invite donors to contribute
to the Chapel fund to support the ongoing needs of
the spiritual symbol of our Mission.

NICU Transport Isolette
Our tiniest patients deserve the best care, too. So,
when our Neonatal Transport Team was not able to
order replacement parts for an existing NICU transport
isolette - which serves as a mobile intensive care unit
for babies - because the older parts are no longer
made, they requested assistance for a new isolette.
Thanks to your gifts, St. Mary’s Health Foundation was
able to fund the $117,000 purchase of this life-saving
equipment. In this photo, staff members are being
trained to use the new Isolette.

St. Mary’s Health Auxiliary
St. Mary’s Health Auxiliary is a charitable group of women and men. Since
1988, the Auxiliary has donated more than $4.162 million to our healthcare
ministry. This is more than any other donor, individual or corporation, in
our history. Auxiliary members have also contributed their time, with more
than 30 individuals volunteering a total of 120,300 service hours during the
past fiscal year!

THANKS TO YOU!
St. Mary’s Health Foundation has a lot to celebrate from this fiscal year. And, there is one huge reason for our success… you!
HERE ARE JUST A FEW HIGHLIGHTS:
•
380 new donors – our highest total in the last 10 years! New donors contributed to our campaign for a new St. Mary’s Mobile Dental Clinic. The new
clinic will be the first dental home for thousands of children who have never even been to the dentist before. Some of these kids don’t even own a
toothbrush. You are changing their lives.
•
New donors also made donations to the recently constructed Daughters of Charity Prayer Garden and provided much needed equipment upgrades
for our Chapel. Your gifts literally surround us every day!
•
More associates than ever before (1,179) donated to our associate giving campaign, the Foundation’s Annual Campaign for Excellence. Your gifts
supported poor and vulnerable patients and fellow Associates facing financial challenges, such as an associate who had a stroke at just 50 years old.
As a result, she will never be able to speak again. Your gifts purchased a device allowing her to communicate in real time. Your gifts will help her
adjust to her new life and overcome her challenges.
•
Three new members joined our planned giving program, the prestigious Healing Legacy Society. Their generosity will benefit countless
patients at St. Mary’s in perpetuity. You can also support our Mission while you’re still alive and receive a fixed income for life through options
such as a charitable gift annuity.
•
Your generosity produced over $2.1 million in contributions. This money will be invested into our Mission to improve the health of our
community by treating all those who come to us in need, with special attention on those who are poor and vulnerable.
