A FUN RAISER! Sponsored By: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2013 7:30-11PM PORSCHE OF BEACHWOOD 25855 CHAGRIN BLVD BEACHWOOD, OHIO 44122 A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT... Dear Friends and Community Members: Welcome to Wild for Orange and thank you for being a part of The Orange Schools Foundation’s first annual gala. We are excited to celebrate with you and we’re so happy you could join us. We are grateful to our corporate and family sponsors and all of our attendees this evening. All of your contributions directly support the work of the Orange Schools Foundation. Our mission is to provide resources and funding to enrich the educational experiences of all students. We provide seed capital to educators who desire to start new and innovative programs at Orange. Since its inception in 1991, The Orange Schools Foundation has donated more than $365,000 in grants for classroom enrichment projects, technology, and opportunities for academic, artistic and athletic endeavors. We have a great night planned including fabulous food, an open bar and live entertainment from students as well as a DJ. In addition we have an amazing silent auction with so many magnificent items and there are some terrific prizes to be won by purchasing raffle and wine pull tickets. Plus, all proceeds from tonight’s raffle ticket sales will be allocated to one of three great school projects and you are invited to choose what you’d like to fund: *School-wide author visit at Moreland Hills Elementary School. *Building enhancement project at Brady Middle School. *Exchange student scholarship program at Orange High School. Your support makes a difference and we are delighted to partner with you to positively impact the educational opportunities that will be made available to our children. Thank you again for your support and enjoy the evening! Since 1991, the Foundation has granted more than $365,000 to inspire the educational experiences of our students, faculty and community and to recognize student accomplishments in academic, artistic and social endeavors at Moreland Hills Elementary School, Brady Middle School, Orange High School, Gund School (BeechBrook) and New Directions. The Foundation receives between 11 – 15 grant requests each year. Annual requests total about $40-50,000 . According to the Orange Schools Foundation’s financial guidelines, the Foundation can award up to 66% of its previous year’s fundraising net. Therefore, it underwrites $20,000 - $25,000 per year. The maximum individual grant allocation is $5,000. 2012 Foundation grants come alive. Ray Suarez, senior correspondent of PBS’ The NewsHour and author of several books enlightened, encouraged and brought first-hand his The Browning of America, to Orange High School students in a school wide assembly, in smaller discussion-based Government and History groups and with parents and the community in an evening session. Cyber-bullying & anti-bullying messages were powerfully delivered by Tina Meier. Tina’s daughter, Megan, was the victim of cyber-bullying and committed suicide as a result. Tina brought cyber-bulling to life with assemblies at each school and an evening community presentation. Virginia Tech students via the Actively Caring for People‘s Leadership Training brought “it can never happen here” to life. Orange High School student teams were mentored by the Virginia Tech student leaders. Orange students then spread the messages to all grades. “One Book, One Community” discussion forums continued the cyber-bullying discussion. This program was multi-faceted and reached students, staff and parents through day and evening workshops and presentations geared to increase safe and appropriate use of social media. By funding various state-of-the art TV and sound equipment over the years, the professionalism of the TV production and film courses was elevated. The Orange Schools Foundation’s website features video clips of 8 Foundation grants. Orange High School TV students interviewed faculty and students, produced, filmed and edited the segments. The K-4 Spanish Curriculum was enhanced with iPads & hardware to accommodate the latest in language developmental software. The Physical Education Department received additional Wii & PlayStation Move Systems to allow for entire class teams to compete and to promote coordination & team building individually and collectively. Project SOAR – a yearlong reading program at Moreland Hills School featuring an artist-in-residence and a collection of books. The Music Curriculum at Gund School was enhanced with the underwriting of Roots of American Music, a musicians-in- residence program. In addition, their literature curriculum was fortified with the inclusion of ancillary texts and materials. 22 HONORARY AND MEMORIAL FUNDS The Orange Schools Foundation’s Honorary and Memorial Funds are endowed by individuals and corporations in the form of cash gifts and bequests. Brady Middle School: Building Enhancement Project: Operation Beautify Brady will include a Brady hallway makeover using student-friendly colors on the hallway walls and lockers. Areas for students to hang out prior to the start of the school day or as they are waiting to be picked up will be created. Large clay pots will be added to the sidewalks that lead to both Brady entrances to further enhance the school. Orange High School: Exchange Student Scholarship Program: Through the successful International Education Program Orange students have the opportunity to host Danish students and later travel to Denmark to attend classes. The experience brings the realization of both the differences and similarities of another culture. Through this scholarship program many more OHS students will have the opportunity to participate in this meaningful experience. 32 BMS - Chalk Y PROGRAMS N A M E H T F O E SOM LS ORANGE SCHOO PPORTS FOUNDATION SU Guy OHS - Ray Suarez (P resentatio n ) on ti agina m I n natio esti -D MHS BMS - W.E.B. llenge Day BMS - Cha OHS - Robo tics MHS - Games of St rategy OHS - Actively Caring The Susan & Robert Hurwitz Family Foundation Christine & Guido DiGeronimo Family Foundation Kate & Jim Brown Lawrence Industries Inc. 33 SPARKLE + STYLE 34 #SS300 J3 Clothing Company: $250 gift card.
