Nearly three decades ago, my colleagues and I decided that we needed to form an organization to share our Asian culture with the public to foster better understanding and friendship. Like millions of others who left their homeland to migrate to America, the first Asian and Pacific Islanders who arrived in the United States in the 19th century were seeking better lives from the ones they left behind. They possessed rich cultures, ancient heritages and beliefs that with hard work they would realize their share of the American dream, which strengthened them all. Kimi J. Springsteen,Ph.D Founding Chair Asian American Coalition of Florida As we celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month today, we honor all of those who have dedicated their lives to making our American Dream possible. We are grateful to those who serve, and to those who have sacrificed their lives to protect us and give us the peaceful, daily lives we enjoy in this GREAT NATION! Greetings everyone! I welcome you all to the 27th Annual Asian-Pacific American Heritage month and AsiaFest 2010. We hope that you will all enjoy what we have prepared for you at AsiaFest this year. It is our hope that AsiaFest 2010 will continue to preserve the Asian-American Heritage in the Tampa Bay area for future generations. The goal of the Asian-American Coalition of Florida is to teach, educate, and showcase the public the diversity, richness and beauty of Asian cultures though food, dance, music and crafts. Joey Horstmann Omila President Asian American Coalition of Florida www.asiafest-tampabay.com People of Asian origin are the fastest growing segment in the American society today, yet many people are not familiar with the differences among the cultures. My sincere gratitude to all the committees and its members, who have worked diligently to make this event a success.
