MARKETING UPDATE:
For those Hometowne Customers that took advantage of
the 2013 Pre-Buy program, it was a home-run!
As you are all painfully aware not only was the winter of
2013-14 a long and cold one, it turned out to be a very
expensive winter due to fuel prices. The main factor that
drove the prices up was in fact the overall cold weather.
Fuel oil price increases are directly impacted by the utility
com p ani es ow n ener g y cons um p ti on. T h er e ar e u ti l i ty
companies that only use natural gas to run their plants and there
are ones that can use both natural gas or fuel oil. When it gets
cold like last year, the ones that can only use gas are in
the market to buy additional gas, so the price goes up. When
the price of natural gas goes up, the ones that can use both natural
gas or fuel oil sell their natural gas to the gas only utilities
and they switch to fuel oil. When they switch to fuel oil they drive
the price of fuel oil up because of basic supply and demand. On the
propane side there was a national supply shortage.
This supply shortage was caused by (1) low inventories to
begin the year due to exports (2) increased demand by farmers for
crop drying in the fall and (3) the cold winter. The basic
result of this was a tremendous increase in the cost of both
fuel oil and propane.
Since none of us ever know what the next winter season will bring
as to issues that can cause energy prices to spike, the
Pre-Buy Program will protect you from what ever happens in the
world.

MAINTENANCE UPDATE
For our customers in Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tompkins, Wayne and
Yates counties, Hometowne Energy is pleased to announce that we now have our
own Service Department. In the past we used a sub contractor to do our LPG tank
installations and all of the service work that you may have needed to keep your
energy equipment running up to speed. Hometowne Energy feels that having direct
control over the people that service your equipment will enable Hometowne to better
insure that you are receiving the service that you expect from Hometowne. This also
means that you only need to know one phone number if you should have an
emergency issue. All you need to know is to call Hometowne and a Hometowne
representative will determine if you need a delivery and/or a service technician sent to
your home. And when someone is dispatched to your home it will be a Hometowne
Employee. This is not to say that you can not choose to use whom ever you wish to
work on you energy equipment, this is an additional option that you have.
The service department operating out of the Milo office will offer all of the same
services that Hometowne Energy currently offers at our other offices. These services
include furnace inspections and cleanings, emergency service, repairs, and installations of new equipment. Equipment sales include furnaces, boilers, hot water heaters

PROPANE SAFETY
Propane has a long-standing history of safety. It is also highly regulated which helps support propane’s safety record.
Do NOT ever tamper with the propane tank, regulator(s)
Or supply line that Hometowne Energy installed.
Call the office and let our Trained technicians take care
of any issues with the tank!
If you think there is a problem with any of this equipment
CALL Hometowne Energy immediately.
IF YOU SMELL GAS
1. NO FLAMES OR SPARKS! Immediately
put out all smoking materials and other
other open flames. DO NOT operate lights,
appliances, telephones, or cell phones.
Flames or sparks from these sources can
trigger an explosion or a fire.
4. REPORT THE LEAK. From a neighbor’s home
home or other nearby building away from the
gas leak, call your propane supplier right away.
If you can’t reach your propane supplier, call 911
or your local fire department.
2. LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY! Get
everyone out of the building or area where
you suspect gas is leaking.
5. DO NOT RETURN TO THE BUILDING OR AREA
Unless your propane supplier, emergency
responder, or qualified service technician
determines that it is safe to do so.
6. GET YOUR SYSTEM CHECKED! Before you
attempt to use any of your propane appliances,
your propane supplier or qualified service
technician must check your entire system to
ensure that it is leak-free.
3. SHUT OFF THE GAS! Turn off the main gas
supply valve on your propane tank, if it is
safe to do so. To close the valve, turn it to the
right (clockwise).
