Thoughts of cool and inviting pools, shorts, sunglasses, and icy
drinks can only mean one thing: It’s summer in Fort Bend. With
the temperatures rising, you’ll love Fort Bend’s light and refreshing
salads. With area restaurants dishing up many delicious takes on this
summer staple, you’re sure to find one to please your palate.
Thai Chopped Chicken Salad
Panera Bread
Shrimp, Crab, & Avocado Salad
Post Oak Grill
This leafy creation may be a new item on Panera Bread’s menu,
but its taste is anything but amateur. Layered upon a crisp bed of
romaine lettuce are slices of all-natural, succulent chicken and fireroasted vegetables. Hints of cilantro and lime whisper to you, while
the subtle crunch of Thai-spiced cashews adds a tasty dimension to
this summer salad. It is tossed in a Thai chili vinaigrette and finished
off with a sweet peanut sauce. Delicious!

Mr. B’s
Sandy McGee’s
Grilled Steak Salad
BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse
This fabulous little restaurant is celebrating its 25th year, so you
know they’ve got to being doing something right! Nestled in
historic downtown Richmond, Sandy McGee’s offers both a great
atmosphere and delicious food. Marked as Sandy’s favorite entrée
salad, Mr. B’s is touted as the best, and we agree. Take your pick
between creamy chicken salad or grilled chicken to top the fresh bed
of spinach leaves. Toss in some avocado and Max’s signature honey
mustard vinaigrette dressing, and your taste buds will thank you.
Along with your salad, we recommend trying the award-winning
broccoli cheese soup. Amazing!
Perhaps you’re headed out with friends after a hot day in the sun,
and seeking a cool beverage and quick bite. Look no further than
BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse. They have an entire list of specialty
salads, like the grilled steak salad. Grilled, marinated skirt steak
and oven-roasted potatoes make this a filling selection. It’s topped
off with blue cheese crumbles, roasted yellow squash, red onion,
zucchini, red pepper, tomato, and hard-boiled egg wedges, and
tossed with balsamic vinaigrette. Who says salads can’t be hearty?

Here’s another delicious bed of greens. New to the Black Walnut
Café menu, the Asian tuna salad is like nothing you’ve tasted before.
When it comes to salads, this one really spices things up. A mix of
seared Ahi tuna, black sesame seeds, peanuts, carrots, bean sprouts,
snow peas, mint, and cilantro accompany green, red, and Napa
cabbage, wasabi aioli, and a spicy Asian dressing. The combined
taste? Hot, hot, hot. One bite, and you’ll be sold!

Ensalada Verde Salad
Lupe Tortilla
Can you picture yourself sitting back enjoying the flavors of the
southwest while the kids wear themselves out in the oversized
sandbox? If so, then head over to Lupe Tortilla, where the queso is
plentiful and the salads are sure to satisfy your Tex-Mex cravings.
The Ensalada Verde Salad is truly “big,” both in size and flavor!
Crisp green leaf lettuce is tossed in a jalapeno lime vinaigrette
dressing and topped with roasted poblano pepper, pico de gallo, and
Monterey Jack cheese. We recommend adding some beef fajita meat.
Yummy!

Fuji Apple Salad
Panera Bread
Southwest Salad
Spring Creek Barbeque
Looking to lunch all-American-style? Consider the Fuji apple salad.
Mom always said an apple a day would keep the doctor away. We
think this one makes for both a healthy and yummy dish! Allnatural chicken sits atop a bowl of field greens and romaine lettuce.
Sprinkled with Gorgonzola cheese, pecans, red onions, vine-ripened
tomatoes, and apple chips, this salad has it all. A white balsamic Fuji
apple vinaigrette is drizzled on top for the finishing touch.
Pull those cowboy boots out of the closet, saddle up the kids, and
head over to this laid-back restaurant, where healthy greens and
hearty barbecue join in perfect harmony. The Southwest salad is
scrumptious, to say the least. Served in a giant bowl that is filled
beyond its own borders, this feast of a salad can easily be split with
your sidekick. Fresh greens, black beans, tomatoes, bell peppers,
red onion, Monteray Jack and cheddar cheese, and tortilla strips are
topped with grilled chicken breast, pico de gallo, and guacamole.
Spring Creek’s homemade jalapeno ranch dressing adds just a kick
of spice. SLM

DANIELLE HIBBERD is mommy of three boys and enjoys summers in Sugar Land.
La Madeleine is a country café with a French flair. You may be
mesmerized by their dessert and coffee bar up front, but keep
moving down the line! Their Mediterranean salad is sure to dazzle
your taste buds, with a simple, fresh flavor. Artichoke hearts,
cucumbers, tomatoes, green onions, egg, olives, and feta cheese are
all tossed in a marjoram-infused vinaigrette. Pair it with a cup of
soup or a sandwich, or enjoy it alone. It’s both tasty and filling, but
will still leave room for all those amazing pastries!
