he Capital Region is home to
four of the top 10 performing
school districts in Louisiana and
four schools named to U.S. News
and World Report’s list of the nation’s
best high schools. In addition, the region
features an extensive list of private
schools offering excellent educational
opportunities at all grade levels.
The 12 public school districts in the
Baton Rouge area—Ascension, Baker,
Central, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana,
Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee,
St. Helena, West Baton Rouge, West
Feliciana and Zachary—are committed
to providing the opportunity for quality
education and personal growth for all
students. School districts in the region
also provide opportunities for advanced
learning through gifted and academic
magnet programs and tailored programs
in music, visual arts and dramatic arts.
The East Baton Rouge Parish School
System is composed of 94 schools with
dedicated teachers, recent technology
upgrades and an enrollment of nearly
50,000 students in pre-kindergarten
through grade 12. To register a student in
the EBRPSS, parents need a withdrawal
slip from their child’s previous school,
inoculation records, the student’s Social
Security number and proof of present
address.

East Baton Rouge Parish parents

the form of public charter and magnet
schools. Charter schools are independent
public schools given a charter by the
state Board of Elementary and Secondary
Education. They typically feature
innovative educational strategies and
allow students to attend a school outside

The EBRPSS Magnet Programs are
special interest programs for highachieving students in grades K-12. They
offer advanced study, extended day
services (elementary) and expanded
