MIXED COLORS
KOSTA BODA
Kosta Boda designers stand with one foot in the art world, while
the other is at least as firmly planted in our production of beautiful and functional glass objects. This autumn, we want to highlight all the fantastic glass being created in our foundries and
make it accessible in your shop.
Many of your customers have already chosen their favourites
among Bertil Vallien, Kjell Engman, Åsa Jungnelius, Ulrica Hydman
Vallien, Anna Ehrner and Martti Rytkönen. By exposing a greater
whole, we believe we can inspire more people to discover more
designers and fall in love with more sides of Kosta Boda. The new
items for this autumn are a concentration of the creative joy that
has turned Sweden into a pioneer when it comes to glass art.
We have also made room for an exciting debut artist. We invite
you to meet Sara Woodrow and the other well-known names.

DEBUT
SARA WOODROW
Sara Woodrow is already a familiar name
among many young design lovers. She presents herself as an artist, illustrator and designer. Via her blog, smäm.se, more and more
people have come to know her work, which is
characterised by a presence in time and a
strong sense of trends. She is a contemporary
designer who forges her own path. We are thrilled to have her on board and we look forward
to a long and fruitful collaboration.
TWINE, BASKET,
CUP CAKE & UNIQUE
”
I’m inspired by the way glass flows freely and playfully, while being strict and straight at
the same time. In Twine, I’ve combined these two qualities in a vase that I think reflects
light in a exciting way. It makes the vase equally beautiful with or without flowers.

hand over the mouth-blown vase to create the organic, irregular pattern.

POPPY & LIMITED
POPPY
Design: Kjell Engman
Our skilled glassworkers make this series by hand in Kosta using lead-free
crystal. First, three colour rods are melted together to form the hub of what
will then be blown into a bowl, vase or dish. The molten glass is caught on
the pipe in two batches, building up the parison that will be blown up. The
characteristic small bubbles of the series are created after the first gather, and
after the second, the glass body is attached to a new pipe, giving the product
its stand and the glassworker the opportunity to create the product’s handcut lobed edges.

These three limited edition art glass pieces are made in

molten glass. The colour is sprinkled on by hand before the
plate is placed in an annealing oven to cool down slowly to
room temperature, which prevents the glass from cracking.

The poppy is associated with Demeter, the Greek goddess of fertility and the harvest.
My inspiration comes from the moment the poppy opens up and spreads its seeds
across the countryside. The colours symbolize the various play of colours in rain,
frost, daylight and sunshine. The incredible shape, with its uneven edges and
texture, was a bit of a challenge to create in glass.
RED RIM
& LIMITED
RED RIM
Design: Bertil Vallien
Red Rim is hand-made in several steps. First, the first parison of
lead-free crystal is rolled in powdered colour. The colour is then
heated before the parison is blown into a shape that gives the
molten glass its optical pattern. Clear glass is gathered over the
parison to enclose the optical pattern in the glass, and then the
glass is blown into its final form and shaped into a bowl or a vase.
Finally, the piece is attached to a glass-blowing pipe and blown
up a touch more before the red rim is applied from a colour rod.

As with all of Bertil’s beautiful art glass pieces, these two boats

his workshop in Kosta. Working closely with his team of skilled
glassworkers, the boats are hand-cast by carefully and methodi-

The sand moulds are put in the annealing oven to allow the hot
glass sculptures to slowly cool down and are at last removed

Sara’s plates are made in several steps. The plates are made by hand; the molten
glass is hand-poured into moulds in Kosta, Sweden. They are then flame-polished
before being placed in the annealing oven to cool down slowly so that they do not
crack. Last, each one is hand-painted by our talented painters in Kosta and finally
placed in a wooden stand made by Kautto Design in Långasjö, Småland.

SKY & ANNUAL

SKY
Design: Erika Lagerbielke
I decided on a classic hourglass shape and let the waist slip down
a little. The bottom has a nice weight and the glass opens upwards
so that you can easily sip your delicious drink, even if it has a lot of
ice in it.
I started from the most popular sizes: Old Fashioned, Double Old
Fashioned and Highball. Together, they offer options so that you can
choose the shape you like best for both classic and modern drinks.
The glass is called SKY, which refers to the simple, natural design
and the fact that the best location for a bar is, in my opinion, a sky
bar – high up with an amazing view, or right under the stars.
The glasses are machine-made from lead-free crystal produced in
Germany and packaged in sets of four in three different models.

Sky is a glass that is both personal and super simple.
It occurred to me that when enjoying a good drink, it’s
often in a situation in which you have a glass in your
hand. So, I decided that the special feature of my new
glass should be just that: it should sit well in the hand.
