Raising Teens in a Hyper-Sexualized Society
By all reports, last Monday evening’s presentation to parents by David and Katie Kobler was well
received. It covered the major challenges facing our young people today such as dating,
relationships, sexting, apps, the impact of media and marketing and the on-line world.
As I listened to David and Katie’s engaging and at times confronting presentation it struck me as to
how much education has evolved in recent years – the teaching and learning and assessment of
content, skills and development of thinking dispositions is in essence only part of education today. It
is now so important for us as teachers and parents to share in the issues facing our young people
and guide them wisely as they make choices about matters that affect their lives.
Schools nowadays must focus also on the character development of students and on providing
opportunities for the development of a strong sense of right and wrong and being able to stand up
for oneself.
The goal is to equip students with the skills to make sound and wise decisions and when things don’t
always turn out as expected, to ensure they have the resilience to be able to bounce back.
All of this needs to be underpinned by a strong Christian framework, with students learning how to
live in a Godly way in a challenging world.
I am sure the parents at the seminar left feeling more empowered to be able to start conversations
on these topics that affect their children, to allow for differences of opinion, and to respond with
empathy as they seek to have an influential presence in their lives.

FROM THE CHAPLAIN
As you probably know, this week we celebrated International Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you).
If you’ve seen the movies, you may have noticed that mothers are a strong undercurrent to the plots:
Luke is raised by his aunt (an adoptive mother); Anakin is so strongly attached to his mother that
when she suffers, he turns to the Dark Side; and in the most recent movie, there is great speculation
about who Rey’s mother (and father) might be. I suppose you could say that “the Force is strong in
this Mum!”
It is interesting to note how each of these mothers are associated with someone who is a potential
saviour (Shmi raising Anakin, Beru raising Luke, etc) or perhaps it is even more significant how the
role of Saviour is so central to the stories. Of course, each of these mothers accomplishes their role
in the background with the emphasis being placed on their more famous children and yet their work
is not insignificant.
Fictional mothers aside, in the real world we rely on our mothers (and our fathers) to give us the
opportunities and support to realise our potential, to make a positive difference in this world. I find it
significant that our Saviour took great pains (while he was in great pain) to consider the ongoing care
of His mother (John 19:26-27). This Sunday is our opportunity to remember our Mother, to thank her
and maybe even to thank God for the role and work of mothers.
And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for He has been
mindful of the humble state of His servant” (Luke 1:46-48).

FROM THE PARENTS’ AND FRIENDS’ ASSOCIATION
Canteen for Compassion
BMGS is hosting the WAS Cross Country Carnival on
13th May on behalf of the Junior and Preparatory
Schools. There are five other schools visiting that day
and we expect approx. 500 people. We are going to
use this opportunity to raise funds for the Compassion
trip (in June) by providing parent helpers and baked
goods to sell on the day. We are calling for willing
parents to assist on Friday 13th between 11:00am and
3:00pm. The parents will serve in the canteen at the
Sports Centre and in the BBQ van. All funds raised
from the BBQ and canteen will go to the Compassion
Project (less produce costs). If anyone is able to help,

Annual Trivia Night
The Annual Parents’ & Friends’ Association Trivia night
will take place on 28th May (please note change of
date). So, if you have the answers then we have the
questions for you! With a ‘nod’ to Rio and the 2016
Olympic Games, the theme for this year will be
Carnivale.
If any parents are willing to donate prizes for the night,

Bookings may be made through Coorah Reception (02) 4757 9000. $30 p.p. ($15 p.p. Student).
Make up a table (max. 8 players per table) or we can place you on a table. In addition to prizes for

Conversations at Coorah - ReWild your Child
The next in our Conversations at Coorah series will be held on Thursday 16th June at 7:00pm 9:00pm in the Chapel. ReWild your Child with Lee Trew (or Why Wilderness Education is one of the
most valuable options we offer at BMGS).
Australia’s answer to Bear Grylls, Lee Trew is a bushcraft expert, a psychotherapist and youth
counsellor. He and his wife run 'ReWild' camps for children in the school holidays, which are always
fully booked. Lee has been using Jon Young's coyote mentoring approach for over a decade, and
began learning and teaching bushcraft as a teenager at the Forest School Camps in the UK. He
studied primitive survival skills in the US, and spent a year living in the bush, finding shelter, water
and food on the landscape; putting it into practice. He also featured on Discovery Channel's Naked
and Afraid where wilderness and bushcraft experts chosen from around the world are dropped into
hostile terrain, for three weeks. They are filmed as they use all their ingenuity to survive. Not only
did Lee survive this experience, but he thrived and further deepened his own connection with himself
and with the bush. He is a regular guest on TV panels and a sought after speaker. We are honoured
and thrilled that he has agreed to come to BMGS in recognition and support of Mr. Parrish Robbins
and the exemplary Wilderness Education program offered at BMGS.
Come and hear his wisdom and thoughts on the benefits and importance of Wilderness Education

All parents should have received a letter via email, last term, about these tests. If you have any
questions please do not hesitate to contact me. The information can also be found on the Portal.

Please note that all students need a calculator for the Numeracy Test on Thursday. They cannot use
a mobile phone as their calculator. A scientific calculator can be purchased from the School Uniform
shop. This calculator will be used by the student for Mathematics from Year 8 to Year 12.
If a student is unable to attend the NAPLAN tests please phone the Heads of School for Junior and
Preparatory School students, and for Senior School students the Deputy Head – Teaching and
Learning’s office on the morning of the test. We can make arrangements for the test to be completed
on Friday 16th May.
Elevate study skills sessions Years 7-12
This year we have integrated into our Wellbeing Program, a new study skills platform called Elevate
Education.
Elevate’s study skills seminars are designed to achieve behavioural change amongst students. It
isn’t enough that students simply understand what they need to do in their study. The challenge in
any study skills program is getting students to use and apply the skills they learn. Elevate gets
students using the skills from its seminars and workshops by using an integrated process that works.
It brings young presenters who speak with passion, relevance and backed by the latest research,
and this is then supported by a program that will roll out through the Wellbeing Program in Tutor time
later in the year. The aim is to build an integrated, whole-school approach to this vital aspect of
learning.

FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT
Student Holiday Achievements:
During the recent school holidays the following students were involved in exciting musical ventures.
Emily Ampt (Year 10) attended a Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows Workshop at Casula
Powerhouse Museum. During the multi-day workshops, students participated in instrumental
section tutorials mentored by the SSO Fellows. They then came together to rehearse as an orchestra,
concluding with a free concert for family and friends. Miriam Cooney (Year 9) attended the
Australian Youth Orchestra Young Symphonists’ programme, for ages 12-17years, held at The King’s
School Parramatta. Participants immersed themselves in a series of rehearsals, tutorials and
performances under the direction of Roger Benedict and a team of tutors during a week-long
program.
Kinross Wolaroi Music Visit
On the second last day of Term 1, musical groups from Kinross Wolaroi School at Orange visited us.
They had just concluded their annual music camp and they performed a concert for our Junior
School which was well received by staff and students.

FROM THE PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT
Congratulations to the extraordinarily talented cast of
students from Years 10 to 12, who are midway through this
year’s major musical production of Into the Woods. This
complex, challenging and thoroughly entertaining Sondheim
musical is currently running across six sold-out performances
in the Performing Arts Centre. The production would not be
possible without the support of the students working hard
behind the scenes, including a film crew of students from
Years 7 to 8, who are preparing a documentary on the
process of this production, from first rehearsal to final
performance, under the direction of Dylan Logue (Year 12,
2015).
In particular, the Performing Arts Department would like to
thank Mrs. Julie Cooney, Ms Elizabeth Cooney and Mr. Col
Burke for their amazing musical accompaniment throughout.

FROM THE HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT
Year 10 Commerce
Last week on the 29th of April, we were honoured to have Ms Trish Doyle, a member of the Australian
Labor Party (New South Wales Legislative Assembly) and Member for the Blue Mountains, visit our
Year 10 Commerce class. It was a great experience for the students and, for many, this would have
been their first brush with politics. In the talk the class discussed topics with Ms Doyle, such as the
proposed Badgerys’s Creek Airport and her views and actions she wants to take against Domestic
Violence. They also learnt a little bit about the struggles and positives that can come as a result of
trying to access the field of politics. Overall, I think this was a very insightful experience for the
students and on behalf of the students, I would personally like to thank Ms Doyle.

Year 10 Commerce
FROM THE HEAD OF VISUAL ARTS
Nadia Odlum attended BMGS from 2003 to 2008, graduating as Dux
of Year 12. In 2009 she commenced study at the National Art
School, and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts
(Honours), gaining First Class Honours and the Award for
Outstanding Academic Achievement, which signifies the highest
academic mark in the cohort. Since then, Nadia has held solo
exhibitions at SNO Contemporary Art Projects, Firstdraft, Archive and
Factory 49. She has been included in numerous group shows, and
has won a number of grants and prizes. In 2015 Nadia was granted
a residency in Paris at the Cité Internationale des Arts by the Art
Gallery of New South Wales, who also awarded her the Dyason
Bequest to fund this period of travel and research.
Nadia is currently completing a Master of Fine Arts by Research
degree at UNSW Art & Design (formerly COFA). For this degree she
was granted the competitive Australian Postgraduate Award, a
scholarship which provides funding to Australian researchers.
Nadia's graduating exhibition will open in May, at Kudos Gallery in Paddington.
Nadia's exhibition - 'This way (this way) that way' - will be on view to the public from the 5th to the
14th of May. Although the exhibition will open on the 5th May, the actual opening night drinks and
celebrations will be held on the 10th May, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. It would be wonderful to see
some BMGS supporters there to celebrate Nadia’s achievements.

Co-curricular Photography
Photography Club Term 2 - Year 9 and above, Wednesdays 3:15pm – 4:45pm
We have had lots of interest in the Photography Club this year which is fantastic! The Club runs on
Wednesdays from 3:15pm to 4:45pm. We have just completed a fun Term 1 with Years 7 and 8 and
now begin Term 2 for Years 9 and above.
We will be exploring more advanced photography techniques and embarking on photo shoots both
within and outside School. We have two excursions planned so far to Katoomba (Urban Street
photography) and to the VIVID Light Festival at Circular Quay.
If you put your name down at the beginning of Term 1, please make sure you see Ms Hiam in the AD
Staff room, or email her to confirm your attendance ([email protected]). There are limited
places still available so don’t delay - sign up before next Wednesday!
The cost is $25:00 per term to be paid at the Coorah office.

The Art and Design department is excited to announce a design competition. The Wentworth Falls
Chamber of Commerce and Community Inc. has approached BMGS to have students design their
new logo. Therefore, the opportunity exists for students to produce a creative work that will be used
in the real world. Imagine how impressive your resume will be with an accolade such as this. The
following awards will be presented to the winners:

FROM THE LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT
Le Petit Coin des Francophones
The History/French trip to France in September is sadly not going ahead due to lack of numbers. We
needed at least 16 students to make the trip viable. Instead, I am now looking into a tour to New
Caledonia for 7 to 10 days in the September holidays. I am still reviewing options re
homestay/classes in the morning/activities in the afternoon/cooking classes etc… If you are
interested in your child attending a tour to New Caledonia, please let me know by email:
[email protected]. I am still keen to organise a trip to France in September 2018, therefore
if you are interested, please let me know.
Also please consider exchange programs, students can stay in a country for three months. Imagine
when they come back: their level of language is fantastic and their knowledge of the world
expanded. As we live in a global economy/society it is useful to broaden one’s horizons. Spending
time away from family helps students take responsibility for themselves, also.
Eurovision Song Contest 2016 - Stockholm, Sweden 13 to 15 May
Regardless of your interest for the event, yes…. I hear you say … bad music… kitsch costumes,
background and the singing is overdone … Firstly, students of all ages love it and secondly, there is a
surprise this year! Why not host a Eurovision party at your place. It can involve dancing or not… In
any case you will have a great time and you can mix the generations, small children, teenagers,
people in their 20s, 30s and older people… Some of you might be aware of the level of excitement
going on through the corridors of BMGS (think of the film Fame) as we (mostly me) hum the tune of
the song of Amir: “J’ai cherché”. Amir has a Tunisian father, a Moroccan-Spanish mother; he was
born in France and lived in Israel.” He has composed both the music and the lyrics. I recommend
watching the video without the sound first to gain an understanding of the story through the images
only, then read the translation of the lyrics in English, then read the French and watch the video with
the sound. Let me know what you think!

speaker, Maxwell Duignan, is a student of Accounting.

Compassion Project
During the next June/July holidays,
24 students from Years 10 and 11
will be travelling to Sulawesi
Indonesia, on an Insight Trip to visit
the Compassion Project that BMGS
supports. We are planning to take
small gift bags to the 50 mums and
babies that are part of the Child
Survival Project that our fundraising
supports - they receive health
checks,
nutritious
food,
immunisations, social and emotional
support, vocational training and an
opportunity to hear about God's love
for them.
The wider BMGS community can
support this effort in donating
towards the simple gift packs which
will include:

a reusable bag
a small toy (0-3 year old)
a wrapped bar of soap
a hand towel
The three options for your donation
include: 1) collecting the items
yourself and delivering to Coorah; 2)
donating towards a Fair Trade gift
bag of the same things (see attached flyer) in which case donations can be sent in to school with
students and given to Mrs Knight, or at Coorah, or by credit card over the phone at the Senior School

ISA Winter Sport
Well done to all the teams who played last Saturday. Our Girls’ 1st XI Football team had their first win
and so did our Girls’ Open C Hockey team.
This Saturday we have a huge Home Day with majority of our teams playing at home. We also have
the Senior Production Matinee on this Saturday so all of the Senior teams will have early games.

CIS Swimming Carnival
Well done to all the students who competed at the CIS Swimming Carnival on Tuesday evening and
Wednesday. Most students achieved a new PB which is great. Congratulations to Arizona Staley
(Year 10) who came third in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke events. She will go on to
represent CIS at the NSW All Schools’ Swimming Championships on Friday the 6th June. Good luck
Arizona!
Year 10 Work Experience

Senior School – limited access on the 9th May and 13th May
This is a notification that the entrance road through the main gates of the Senior School will have
limited access on the 9th and 13th May. This is due to the Junior and Preparatory Schools’ Cross
Country Carnival on the 9th May and the Western Area Schools’ Cross Country Carnival, hosted by
BMGS on the 13th May.
There will be a member of Staff present at the gate and the gate will be blocked. If you need urgent
access into the School please notify the Staff member on duty and they will allow you to drive in
when it is safe to do so.
The times that the gate will temporarily be out of use are:

Junior and Preparatory Schools’ Cross Country Carnival
The Junior and Preparatory Schools’ Cross Country Carnival will be held on Monday 9th May. Notes

Girls’ Hockey
BMGS Open C defeated Redlands, 5-0
After getting back into the spirit of Hockey, the game picked up and our new players - Francesca, Angela and Isabella blended seamlessly into the team ethos and learnt the game quickly in defensive and half positions. Eager to get into
the first game of the season, Alex, Tamsin and Caitlyn took advantage of being on home turf and continually
challenged Redlands attackers to get the ball up the field, with some great play being made to get the ball to the
wings along with some fantastic hits that pushed all players up the field. The girls worked together as a team and
maintained ball possession, which resulted in 5 goals made throughout the game by our attackers Rose, Ainslie and
Bronte! Eleni, Maddy, Maya and Geraldine worked incredibly well as our defence line, leaving few chances for the
opposition to get to our goalie, Tess, who saved several attempted goals. All girls are to be commended for their
excellent co-operation and their ability to transition to other positions when needed. It was a great start providing us

Girls’ Football
BMGS Open C were defeated by Barker, 10-0
The first game of the season got off to a rocky start for the girls as a lack of playing experience was proving costly.
However, they found their rhythm in the second half and came out firing, moving the ball upfield and creating several
goal scoring opportunities. The girls should not be disheartened by their efforts as the second half showed some very
promising signs.

BMGS Junior A were defeated by Redlands, 5-0
The Junior A girls stepped out onto the field with a positive attitude, determination and a few pre-game nerves in their
first round of the season against a strong Redlands team. The girls maintained strong ball possession throughout the
game and worked well as a team to play the ball from the back. In the second half, the girls started to feel more
comfortable and confident in their positions and their short, sharp passing started to come together nicely to create
some goal scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the girls walked away with a 5-0 loss, however, their persistence,
communication and teamwork on the field, highlighted their great potential as a newly formed team. Special mention
should be made of our Goal Keepers, Rhianna Say and Eloise Williams, for their fantastic efforts in goal.

Girls’ Netball
BMGS Junior B defeated St. Spyridon’s 24-3
This was an excellent start to the season, with a resounding win against St Spyridon's. Jasmine Snow played
outstanding Netball, with consistent intercepts and ball work. Marni Brown worked hard throughout the whole game
and her efforts were reflected by the scores. This was a fantastic, all-round effort from each of the girls and we look
forward to a great season.
BMGS Junior C were defeated by St Spyridon’s 14-10
This was a very impressive effort for this first-time group. The girls brought a positive attitude to the court and those
with a little experience were encouraging and supportive of the beginners. The group now has some refining of
technique to do at training. Well done, girls – an excellent start to the season.
BMGS Intermediate B defeated St Spyridon’s 42-21
This was a great first game for the Intermediates. The team played a smart, controlled game with extraordinary
defence. A special mention to Maia as our second hospital visit for the day. BMGS dominated St Spyridon’s players all
over the court. Let’s build our season from here and go from great to spectacular.
BMGS Open Cs were defeated by Oakhill College, 56-9
The Open Cs got off to a shaky start, with most players using the first half to find their feet. Some great defensive
work from Olivia Holmdahl, Georgia Dillon and Emily Rhodes kept the score to 40 – 2 at half time. The team played
with more confidence in attack in the second half with Hailey Clayton and Taylor Cameron combining well in the circle.
Laura Clyne, Aisling Tufrey and Hayley Song provided good drive from the centre and Alex Michielsen played her first
game ever. Well done.
BMGS Open Bs were defeated by Oakhill College, 72-7
The first match of the season revealed some harsh realities – mainly that we need to improve our fitness! Most girls
had not played together before and, while the overall understanding within the team improved during the game, it is
clearly in need of work. Individuals all had moments of excellence, which is extremely promising. Our training goals
are now clearly set out: to integrate these bright flashes of brilliance into a continuously brightly shining cluster of
stars. It can be a challenge to remain motivated when one’s team is being thoroughly beaten and I commend the girls
on maintaining their efforts to the end.
BMGS First VII were defeated by St Spyridon’s 36-34
The Firsts lost a hard-fought game but did have chances in the final minutes to snatch the game. Every player
displayed some brilliance, but overall consistency let us down. Great team spirit and support for each other meant a
happy team despite the loss. Special mention to Claire Bourguignon as our first hospital visit for the season!

Boys’ Football
BMGS 13s v Redfield College 13s
It was our first game of the season and a chance for all the players in the Under 13 team to compete in their first ISA
game. This was a very interesting and hard earned result of a 5-all draw against Redfield. We really played well and
lead on every occasion until the last minute when they scored to draw the game. Some players really impressed me
with their determination, effort and teamwork. The stand outs were Jack scoring two excellent goals, Tom at the back
fought tirelessly and Oliver who worked hard throughout the game. Others were inspiring and we should develop a
very dedicated team of boys for the season.

BMGS 14s v Redfield College 14s
To commence the 2016 season, the new look U14 BMGS team ventured to Redfield College on a beautiful autumn
day. BMGS were always in the fight and had periods where they controlled possession, but Redfield made the best of
their chances to ease out to a 3-0 lead at half time. The second half was even tighter, with only a single goal scored,
leaving the final score 0-4. Standouts were Sebastian Mannes and Daniel Smith working hard in midfield, and Luke
Elmes creating many attacking opportunities in the forward line.

BMGS 15s v Redfield College 15s
It was a scratchy start to the season as the boys struggled to get into the first half. Redfield took control of the game
from the kick off and our boys got caught out by their fast start. We went into the half time break down 2 – 0 and the
boys were feeling the humidity and heat in the midday game but knew what they had to do to try and get this game
back. We started the second half well but unfortunately leaked an early goal. We settled a little after this and did
create opportunity in front of goal but just couldn’t convert. A much better second half saw us in the game but
chasing the goal deficit. Some good Goal Keeping from Jackson and a tireless effort from Luke in both attack and
defence were the highlights from this game. We finished up 0-3 and looking to bounce back at home next week.

BMGS 2nd XI v Redfield College 2nd XI
We spoke before the game about the need to play strong, uncompromising, smart, positional Football against the
competition benchmark team. And that’s exactly what the boys did. This was a new look BMGS 2 nd XI team who went
out onto the Redfield grass and gave it and their opposition everything they had. And it worked beautifully. We scored
two outstanding team goals in the 1st half and a third goal in the second half. We could have scored plenty more. We
defended stoutly and created plenty of really good opportunities. I was so proud of the boys on Saturday. Not just
because we beat a strong side convincingly, but because of the spirit and determination we displayed from start to
finish. This was a fine team performance. Good on you, lads. Top of the table!! Now we’ve just got to stay there. (Final
score 3-1)

BMGS 1st XI v Redfield College 1st XI
A testing opening fixture for BMGS and a baptism of fire for first team debutants Wilson McDowell, Zahki Kapusta and
Riley Hilder. Early season question marks about BMGS fitness levels as Redfield seemed to have an extra gear to call
on at times. That said, the flurry of goals against us late in the first half were mostly due to simple technical blunders.
Down 0-4 at half time, the BMGS team deserve great credit for a sterling second half effort. A fine deep Fynn Norman
cross was brilliantly headed home by Joe O’Doherty and when Oscar Borschmann put one away soon after; we
thought we were back in the game, only for the goal to be cruelly judged offside. Our boys battled on bravely but
couldn’t break through again. Fynn, Paddy Trihey and Rohan Bertinat all demonstrated the dogged intensity that is
needed at this level. [Final Score 1-4]

Year 5/6 Camp – Camp Waterslea, Shoalhaven
The Stage 3 camp was a wonderful success – the students thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of
activities, games and challenges that made up their 3-day camp, which was held in a very
picturesque part of the world. The students are to be congratulated for their behaviour throughout
the camp and the enthusiasm with which they embraced the various camp experiences.

Football Reports for Saturday April 30
BMGS Under 8s v Blaxland FC
It was a great game by our under 8s this week. Despite the muddy conditions, our team dominated the game with
great passing and control in the midfield. Credit to our goalkeepers, Meenatchi and Indigo, for their first ever time
in goals. James did a stellar job, alongside Oliver, in shutting down the attacking play of the opposition. Lucas and
Otto held the midfield and created goal scoring opportunities. Rohan and Rafferty’s persistence up front kept the
opposition’s defence on their toes. Well done to all players on their outstanding teamwork and communication on
the field this week.

BMGS Under 9s v Springwood FC
The Under 9s played Springwood and the game was a tie, 0-0 – yippee! The boys had lots of fun and a number of
shots on goals. Charlie Taubman was strong in defence and Ryan Ivery gave the game his all!

BMGS Under 10s v Springwood United FC (Yellow)
Luckily the rain held off for our game on Saturday. It was a fast paced, action packed game with the boys
displaying excellent skills and some wonderful foot work and passing between players. Jack and Joel were good
defenders. Charlie was also good in defence, often dropping back to stop the opposition in the first half. In the
second half Charlie made an excellent goal keeper. Jasper was the goal keeper for the first half and then played
attack in the second half. He gained two well-deserved goals towards the end of the match. Fred, Max and Luke
were terrific in attack as well. Fred scored three goals; Mac, Max and Luke scored a goal each. There was some
excellent play from Oscar and Sebastian who helped the team set up the goals. We would like to extend a big
‘thank you’ to Ms Keri O'Neill for being the coach for the match. Well played boys!

BMGS Under 11s v Wentworth Falls FC
After a series of significant and high scoring victories to start the season, it was nice to have a game this week
that was hard fought and close. The boys are really playing well as a team - and they needed to this week, to get
the victory over a strong Wentworth Falls side. The final score was a 4-2 win. This was a really exciting game of
end to end attacking Football. Well done, boys.

BMGS Under 12s v Penrith FC
A Football game the day after a 3-day camping experience is always a tough call, and this week’s game was no
exception. Coach Mr. Ben Shaw understood the potential for a squad that lacked energy and punch and made
sure his message to the players was that the main aim of the day was to get on the field and have fun. Tired or
not, the players threw themselves into the game and produced a valiant effort in defence, particularly during the
second half. Curtis and Carly didn’t let the dark rings under their eyes block their vision of the opponents play.
They both defended admirably and prevented a number of opposition goals. Mohan, too, didn’t let a winding stop
him. After a short spell off the field he charged back on to help protect our defence line. An unfortunate loss to
Penrith FC was the order of the day. Better luck next week.

Morning Tea Munch
We would like to run the Morning Tea Munch again this year in Terms 2 and 3. This is an initiative to
enable the children to purchase food for morning tea and raise funds at the same time. We would
like to have a Morning Tea Munch, each fortnight on Mondays in Term 2. We hope to put together a
roster of “Bakers, Apple Suppliers and Helpers”. Items will be priced between $1 and $2. “Bakers”
will be required to provide 12 portions of their chosen treat. “Apple Suppliers” need to supply
approximately 10 - 12 small apples that will then be “Slinked” by our wonderful helpers. “Helpers”
will be required at School to set up and sell goodies between 10:00am and 10.45am.

Help Wanted Friday 13th – 11:00am to 3:00pm Canteen for Compassion
BMGS is hosting the WAS Cross Country Carnival on 13th May on behalf of the Junior and Preparatory
Schools. There are 5 other schools visiting that day and we expect about 500 people. We are going
to use this opportunity to raise funds for the Compassion trip (in June) by providing parent helpers
and baked goods to sell on the day. We are calling for willing parents to assist on Friday 13 th
between 11:00am and 3:00pm. The parents will serve in the canteen at the Sports Centre and in the
BBQ van. All funds raised from the BBQ and canteen will go to the Compassion Project (less produce
costs). If anyone is able to help, please contact [email protected].
Conversations at Coorah - ReWild your Child
The next in our Conversations at Coorah series will be held on Thursday 16th June at 7:00pm 9:00pm in the Chapel. ReWild your Child with Lee Trew (or Why Wilderness Education is one of the
most valuable options we offer at BMGS).
Australia’s answer to Bear Grylls, Lee Trew is a bushcraft expert, a psychotherapist and youth
counsellor. He and his wife run 'ReWild' camps for children in the school holidays, which are always
fully booked. Lee has been using Jon Young's coyote mentoring approach for over a decade, and
began learning and teaching bushcraft as a teenager at the Forest School Camps in the UK. He
studied primitive survival skills in the US, and spent a year living in the bush, finding shelter, water
and food on the landscape; putting it into practice. He also featured on Discovery Channel's Naked
and Afraid where wilderness and bushcraft experts chosen from around the world are dropped into
hostile terrain, for three weeks. They are filmed as they use all their ingenuity to survive. Not only
did Lee survive this experience, but he thrived and further deepened his own connection with himself
and with the bush. He is a regular guest on TV panels and a sought after speaker. We are honoured
and thrilled that he has agreed to come to BMGS in recognition and support of Mr. Parrish Robbins
and the exemplary Wilderness Education program offered at BMGS.
Come and hear his wisdom and thoughts on the benefits and importance of Wilderness Education
for youth. Parents and students - don't miss this!
