Designblok
Prague Design
and Fashion Week
Established in 1999, the international exhibition
of design presents current Czech and foreign
designs in the most prominent showrooms and
galleries in Prague. Located within exceptional
architectural buildings in Prague, the Designblok
Superstudios represent the focal point of all
the events; producers and designers from all
over the world present their special installations
within an area of over 10,000 m2. Traditionally,
Designblok covers fashion and includes the
Designblok Fashion Week, where top Czech and
foreign fashion designers present their work.
Designblok has been included among eight
top-priority events in the city of Prague. The 15th
year of Designblok will take place from October
7–13, 2013.
“The entire professional public agrees that Designblok is beneficial for Czech applied arts and that its quality constantly
increases. Many experts say that Designblok, the most important Czech designer event, has the potential to become
more essential than Design Week in Vienna and the DMY in Berlin.”
(Kateřina Kadlecová, Reflex 40 / 2010)
“Do not run away. After Tuesday, one will not be able to hide anyway. The city will be full of design. Design will permeate
the city. The city is the theme of this year’s Designblok, the city as the pivot of life and inspiration. Thus, Prague will
transform into the City, which is full of the most ordinary and unbelievable objects and spectacles, into a fast,
evanescent, and unforgettable city, into a city that is both playful and perhaps gray and indistinct. In short, Prague will
be everything a city and design can be.”
(Barbora Ševčíková, czechdesign.cz, October 2011)
“Prague scores at the expense of London. Designblok is huge and better. (…) One does not have to go to Vienna or
London to see new designs in the field of fashion, lights, and glass. Designblok – the biggest show of design in the
Czech Republic, which ends on October 10, surpasses London and Vienna with enthusiasm and the number of young
designers, plus Czech and foreign companies.”
(Alena Řezníčková, idnes.cz, October 9, 2010)
“Presenting the current Czech and world design, Designblok is a unique event of its kind in our country. Thus, the public
has an opportunity to see designs made by both young designers and established stars. Designblok is modern,
progressive, and cool.”
(Daniela Peštová)
“A couple of years ago, Designblok was a very specialized and pronounced exhibition event for a few experts, brands,
and visitors. However, times have changed. The past several years have shown that Designblok ranks among the most
significant autumn events attended by students, young people, families with children, and experts. (…) Designblok has
initiated successful careers for many designers. Designers such as Lucie Koldová, Klára Šumová, the brand of Rozbíjím
se, and other artists have won acclaim at this event.”

Designblok Program:
Honorary Board of Designblok:
Eva Jiřičná, Architect
Helena Koenigsmarková, Director of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague
Daniel Heler, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Česká spořitelna, a.s.
Liběna Rochová, Fashion Designer
Michal Froněk, Olgoj Chorchoj, Designer
David Řezníček, Director of Konsepti
Libuše Šmuclerová, General Manager of Ringier Axel Springer ČR
Jindřich Smetana, Architect and President of the AAAD in Prague
Karel Ksandr, General Director of the National Technical Museum in Prague
The Designblok program takes place in selected showrooms and galleries all across the city. Apart from these locations, the so-called
Designblok Superstudios serve as the key centers of events.
Administered by Designblok organizers, the Designblok Superstudio serves as an exhibition space for the purpose of special exhibitions
and presentations from exhibitors that are selected based on submitted projects. The Superstudio is reserved exclusively for exhibitors and
distributors who operate in the field of furniture design, interior accessories, lights, and other sectors of design.
The Designblok Openstudio, with the subheading of the Lab of Contemporary Design, is a space devoted to presentations of prototypes,
experimental projects, exhibition concepts of designers, designer studios, and brands from the entire spectrum of contemporary design
(product design, fashion design, jewelry design, and graphic design). The Openstudio also houses presentations of designer schools, the
regular Designblok Talent Cards exhibition of selected talented designers, and profile exhibitions of selected Czech and foreign studios.
The program of Designblok Premier Fashion Week is concentrated in selected boutiques, the Openstudio (installations and
presentations), and primarily the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude, where fashion shows of Czech and foreign fashion designers and brands
take place. Other integral parts of Designblok are the Professionals’ Day that takes place on Monday – on this day the Superstudios are open
only to the professional public (architects, designers, VIP clients – developers, investors, journalists); the gala opening of the Superstudios and
the Openstudio; the Editors-in-Chief Awards; the Designers Talk and Fashion Talk debates; and the closing Premier Gala.
Česká spořitelna has been the General Partner of Designblok for 10 years, since last year under its brand of Erste
Premier for luxury clients.
“All day yesterday was in the spirit of Designblok. All the exhibitors had exhibition openings in the three buildings.
The evening was crowned with a gala dinner that will, no doubt, rank among the best events of this year. (…) However,
fabulous dresses and famous faces were left standing by the program, which was not very long, yet highly interesting.
When the door of the small reception room opened, we entered the beautiful space of the Church of St. Simon and
St. Jude, in the middle of which were white cubes covered with white linen. As the altar glittered with gold, merely being
present there was an experience in itself.”
(Petr Jansa, invogue.cz, October 2, 2012)
“Commercial presentations of new designs from Czech and foreign brands, fashion shows, exhibitions, lectures by
designers, cocktail parties, and other events are open to the public, whose interest grows every year. However, the most
significant benefit for exhibitors is primarily the powerful media, marketing, and business impact of Designblok.”

Designblok Premier Fashion Week:
Fashion has been an integral part of Designblok since its first year. However, its scope has achieved the extent of international fashion weeks.
Apart from presentations in boutiques, galleries, and Designblok Superstudios, the event also offers a program filled with fashion shows of
the entire elite of Czech designers complemented with a range of world brands and international guests in a single space. The event took
place in the Municipal House in 2011. Last year, it was located in the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude.
In 2013 the Designblok Premier Fashion Week spring was established as well. The first venue took place in March, 21 – 24th, 2013
at Křehký Gallery.
“Even though I always take part in Designblok only as a guest, I have been proud of this event since its start.
Experiencing the excitement of a collector or a hunter, I rove among exhibitors and often leave with some swag – no
matter what it is, glass, ceramics, fashion, or designer chocolates. However, fashion is what interests me most at this
event. Since I believe in Czech designers and their world repute, I am happy that they have this exceptional opportunity
to present their fashion designs and show that quality is to be found directly among them. Thus, I am extremely proud to
be able to officially support this event and can hardly wait to sit at all the fashion shows that my schedule will allow me
to watch.”
