PHILANTHROPY:
Calumet Community Center – Collected non-perishable food items, household goods,
clothes, and computer equipment for the non-profit organization in West Oak Cliff.
Created Reading Room – Created a reading room at City Park Elementary. Painted,
carpeted, painted a mural, built a bookshelf, collected over 1,000 books for the room, and
decorated the room with bean bag chairs, benches, and decorations applicable to
a train station. The theme was “Let Reading Take You Places.” Placed plaque on the
wall indicating room was created by Dallas Chapter of Executive Women International
and dedicated on October 25, 2003.
Reading Rally Day – 18 volunteers hosted 23 fifth-grade students during the Reading
Rally at City Park Elementary School on October 25. The morning began with juice,
donuts, and pigs in blankets for the group. They proceeded to the dedication and ribbon
cutting of the Reading Room. Following the dedication, Laure Gonzales, a teacher from
the school read the book Circus Train to the students and talked about how trains as well
as reading can take you special places. The students were then given special paper and
the necessary art supplies to create their very own page about trains and places to visit.
The students’ pages were then put into a book. Lunch was provided for everyone, and
the students received a “goody bag” which included a Reading Rally T-shirt and their
very own copy of the book Circus Train.
Calumet Community Center – Seniors from the Calumet Community Center attended as
guests at the January 22, 2004 Chapter Meeting.
United Way Work Night – Held on June 15, 2004. Sixty representatives and their guests
assembled marketing packets for the annual mass mailing for this member firm. Over
3,000 packets and 500 “goody bags” containing 47,000 items were assembled.

“Coats for Kids” – This philanthropy effort culminated at the December Chapter meeting when
representatives brought in a total of 94 winter coats plus hats, gloves, hoodies, blankets, socks and
numerous other items for children. Items were delivered to Vogel Alcove, an organization that works
with 18 homeless shelters and domestic abuse organizations in the Metroplex, for their Holiday Store.
