THE VARILIGHT STORY
Varilight is the brand name of Doyle & Tratt Products Ltd, the leading British
manufacturer of dimmer switches and decorative switches and sockets. Our diverse
and innovative range is available throughout the UK and the rest of the world via the
electrical trade, retail and online suppliers.
Established in 1972 manufacturing dimmer switches, Varilight naturally diversified
into decorative wiring accessories. Ground breaking innovations enabled the company
to pioneer new processes in forming metal plates, which have often since been imitated.
Varilight continues to manufacture in the UK, enabling fast response times and the
ability to fast-track product development and experiment with new materials and
processes to keep the Varilight brand at the forefront of cutting edge design, and leading
quality standards. Innovation in dimming technology has made Varilight world experts
in lighting control. In recognition of this expertise, Doyle & Tratt Products Ltd was
awarded the UK’s most prestigious recognition of business achievement, The Queen’s
Award for Enterprise in the category of “Continuous Innovation and Development” in
2006 and again in 2015.
A clutch of industry awards have followed for Varilight, which was also the inaugural
winner of the “Innovation in Lighting Design” award at 100% Design in 2007 and a
“Decade of Design” finalist at the Lighting Design Awards in 2012.
Meanwhile the dimmer switch continued to evolve with the development of V-Pro
intelligent dimmers, which have become the industry standard for controlling dimmable
LED lighting. This market-leading technology has been applied to a wide array of
LED compatible dimmer switches including remote control versions with scene setting
capabilities. The company is continuing to push the boundaries of lighting control
technology with the introduction of a new range of V-Com dimmer-switches capable of
handling large LED loads in commercial and domestic settings.
Varilight continues to be run as a privately-owned family business with an unrivalled
commitment to service and value for money and now manufactures over 5000 product

THE KILNWOOD COLLECTION
A comprehensive range of wooden wiring accessories to suit
a variety of interiors. Our Kilnwood range is hand-crafted in
Sussex using both modern and traditional techniques.
All of the wood used for our Kilnwood collection is of the
highest grade and is from sustainable sources. All of the
wood used can be traced to source. The Kilnwood range is
offered in Solid Oak, Medium Oak, Limed Oak, Ash and our
contemporary Scandic Beech range is offered with a minimalist
bevelled moulding. We also have a ‘Mahogany’ finish that
utilises stained Ash to achieve a natural effect.
These products are manufactured from sustainable hardwood,
therefore the grain and timber colour may vary between plates.

This is the current version of the original Varilight Dimmer
Switch incorporating robust UK design and build quality for
long–lasting performance. Built to exacting standards and
containing proven technology from the UK’s leading dimmer
manufacturer. We use top quality, branded power components
for reliability and long life, and individually set up each dimmer
for consistent brightness levels.
Leading-edge dimmer best suited for: incandescent GLS
filament lamps, eco-halogen lamps and other halogen loads.

VARILIGHT BESPOKE SERVICE
If you require something special, unusual or bespoke to
complete your project then please contact your Varilight
supplier with a description of your requirements.
Please provide as much information as possible and if you
require a colour match then please specify the RAL code
for the colour you require. With experienced and skilled
craftspeople at our UK factory we are able to produce
bespoke items to suit most project requirements.
It can be confusing, for example in the kitchen, when
presented with an array of anonymous switches but
with our engraving service we can label switches with a
permanent engraving to indicate their function.
For example, a switch might be engraved with the words
“Dishwasher” or “Washing Machine”. Our engraving
service is particularly popular for switches that are being
installed into rental properties.
